This 'Cashback13'(daft username!) is the most ignorant person on you tube,he's most likely a glory hunter from Bombay just trotting out the usual man utd rhetoric/claptrap that all of a sudden soccer improved in the year 1992,what a load of bullshit.Teams today are soulless and passionless except for Barca and 1 or 2 others.Liverpool are a shit side in this era, nothing like the great teams of the past.man utd became successful when Liverpool went downhill and the rest of the teams were pathetic
Shock LIverpool dining out on achievements of the past! where are they and the fat spanish waiter that leads them in the champions league now? when was the last time this great club won the premiership? its pathetic! If the league is so easy to win these days why the fuck are Liverpool with their forever the victims fans yet again fucking knowhere near winning it! the 80's are gone please set a precedent for liverpool fans an stop fucking dining out on them
The Premier League is easy to win if you have the money to spend. That's why Chelsea and Man Utd have dominated it the last half decade. They have spent the most money on their squads. Even Arsenal haven't been able to win it since Roman upped the anti.
But hey, at least Liverpool how won the Champions League and have consistently been one of the best performers in it these last half a dozen years.
Shite, you can't even read. Who says it is 'easy'? It's easier if you have the most money, that's for sure. That's why Roman bought the league a couple of times and will probably buy it again this year.
Suppose we'll have to listen to plenty of European exaggerations of over 25 years ago! For a few years from Liverpool Now United have equalled a Record in just 19 Years that took Liverpool 90 Years to Get to! :-)! You can talk all you want about Finals 'appearances' but Juve and Benfica have been to 7 each and United have won more European Cups! Only Milan have been to more finals than United in the Recent Era! Enjoy the UEFA Cup if you actually manage to beat Debrecan next week!
""Suppose we'll have to listen to plenty of European exaggerations of over 25 years ago!""
It's not an exaggeration that Liverpool won SIX European trophies and got to SEVEN finals in just over a decade. That's a FACT.
No other team managed to do that in the same period. And on top of that, Liverpool won EIGHT English league titles during the same decade as they won those SIX European trophies. They ruled at home AND abroad.
Man Utd just can't compare. Never have, never will.
Er United won 8 Premier Leagues out of 10 Seasons. and have done something Liverpool couldn't do win it 3 times in a row twice again in a 10 year period! They also have won the TREBLE Which NO OTHER English Team has done since you keep going back to that? and Three League and FA Cup Doubles. Liverpool Died in the 90s and United are now the Best Team in England 18 Titles 11 FA Cups. Plus they have a chance to win it 4 times in a row another thing Liverpool haven't done.
""Er United won 8 Premier Leagues out of 10 Seasons.""
But they never dominated Europe at the same time did they? Liverpool won six European trophies. Even AC Milan have been more successful than Man Utd in Europe this decade and this isn't even their best team. Real Madrid dominated Europe too. Man Utd's European record this decade isn't even as good as Liverpool's.
It took Man Utd almost ten years to even get to another final from 1999 to 2008. That's fucking pathetic.
It's called playing in a better competition with better quality teams. No Team has 'Dominated' The modern European Cup because it's a much harder competitions with a guranteed Tough run to the Final. No One has won it Twice in a row in 20 Years! United have been one of the few clubs who came close! 2 Finals in a Row is better than 2 finals in 3 years ya Fool!. Get back to the Eurodisney league where we know you belong and you've PROOVED you belong now!
Cashback, by your own anology, the English League and English football in general must have been tougher in decades gone by because the 'Double' was a very very rare achievement and winning 3 league titles on the trot didn't happen for almost 50 years between the 1930s and 1980s. You can't have it both ways. On the one hand you say the European Cup was easier as teams won it 3 years running but on the other you claim the English league wasn't easier, yet teams didn't win it 3 times running.
If it was so difficult teams wouldn't have been able to come up from the division below and win the English title shortly after such as Derby and Forest both did. Plus 6 Different Teams won the league in the 1970s. In the last 10 years only 3 have managed to. If it wasn't for Blackburn's 1 Season they same would be said for the 90s! Football has improved and that doesn't happen anymore because the Competitions are Much Harder!
United have been consistently in the knock out stages over the last 12 years bar one season! and have mostly gone out to the eventual Winners or Finalists! 97 Dortmund, 2000 Ream, 2001 Bayern, 2002 Levekusen, 2004 Porto, 2005 Milan, 2007 Milan, 2009 Barca. + 3 Finals in 10 Years is better than Liverpool and Most Other C.L Teams!
""The modern European Cup because it's a much harder competitions with a guranteed Tough run to the Final.""
Man Utd's run to the finals of 2008 and 2009 weren't very tough at all. In fact both times you got the lucky side of the draw and you know it. The teams in the other half had it MUCH tougher.
Champions of Italy 3 Years Running, Champions League Winners in 2004/Portugese Champions 3 Years Running and never lost at home to an English Side, Arsenal one of the best Footballing sides around at the moment, and Barcelona who are only the 2nd ever team to win a Treble! (no prizing for guessing the first) Oh Yeah What an Easy Run! Lucky that CSKA September Flag don't qualify anymore.
Oh and by the way, the UEFA Cup might be fun. I'm not too proud. I'm not arrogant to think Liverpool should be above it. Both AC Milan and Bayern Munich have been in the UEFA Cup recently and if Man Utd didn't come BOTTOM of their group in 2006 then they would have played in it to LOL.
Besides, the UEFA Cup will make a nice change from playing in a fixed tie against Chelsea for the sixth fucking year in a row. Boooooring!!
Fixed Tie so tel me what was 'Fixed' about them beating you 3-1 at Banfield Last season? Only time you beat them was down to Ghost goals and Penalty Shootouts! and it's never boring seeing Liverpool get what they deserve. Enjoy Debrecan tonight!
It was FIXED that they would be drawn together. If you think Liverpol playing Chelsea FIVE SEASONS on the trot didn't have something fishy about it going on then you are very naive. I'm not talking about the results being fixed, I'm talking about the teams being constantly paired together being fixed. 5 years on the trot? Come off it. That was fixed.
By the way Cashback, no comment on Bayern Munich finishing TENTH in the Bundesliga in 1975? Or 3rd in 1976? Or 7th in 1977? Or 12th in 1978? Or 4th in 1979??
This is the team you reckon would have pasted Liverpool?
So they had a couple of lean years due to their best player leaving for the U.S. They still dominated German Football in the 1980s and got to European Finals in 82 and 87! Whereas you went out defending 'your' Trophy to the "Mighty" September Flag who Bayern Beat 7-4 in the Next Round. What have B'Mgladbach done since the 80s oh yeah NOTHING. Whereas Bayern got to 2 European Finals in the 90s and 1 in the 2000s. No Comparison!
""What have B'Mgladbach done since the 80s oh yeah NOTHING. ""
I could have said the same thing in the early 1990s about Man Utd. In 1992 I could have asked "what have Man Utd done since the 1960s?"
It wouldn't have changed the fact that Man Utd were a great side in the 1960s. You are an idiot. You seem to think that just because a team isn't great anymore then it means they were never great. What kind of logic is that? Honestly, it must be hilarious living on Planet Manc.
Since the 60s they've Won 11 League Titles, 2 European Cups, 1 Cup Winners Cups, 3 League Cups, 8 FA Cups, 1 Intercontinental cup and 1 Fifa World Club Cup. Compare that to M'Gladbachs 1German Cup win in 30 Years and you might actually realise the difference! :-)!
From 1970 to 1990 Man Utd won just 4 F.A Cups. That's it. Zip. Nothing else. No First Division Championships. No European trophies (remember Videoton knocking them out of Europea haha), no league cups. Oh and they got RELEGATED in between. Man Utd regularly finished in the mid table positions.
Despite being mediocre in the 1970s and 1980s it didn't change the fact that they were a 'great' team in the 1960s.
They also Got to the League Cup Final in 1983 and FA Cup Finals in 1976 and 1979! Only to be denied by an Offside goal and a Last Minute Goal. As well as the Semis of the Cup Winners Cup in 84, and should have been in Europe in 86 & 88 but we all know why they weren't! Plus 3rd in 76, 2nd in 80, 3rd in 82 and 83, 4th in 84, 4th in 85, 4th in 86, 2nd in 88 is hardly what you call 'Midtable' is it now! If New C.L Rules were around them United would have been in the competition a lot more!
But the difference is Liverpool have benefited in the fact they have changed the qualifying rules for the champions league meaning you would have to finish 5th to not qualify. United would have had 8 C.L's capaigns if they rules had been in place then just like Liverpool have benefited from last 10 years or so allowing them to sneak another trophy to look better than they actually are.
Let's see now, according to Cashback the Eurpean Cup was easier to win in decades gone by because team won it three times on the trot.
Yet, no English club won the English League Championship 3 times on the trot between the late 1930s and early 1980s but according to Cashback it was still easier.LOL.
And 'The Double' was a rare achievement decades ago. Now it's ten a penny, but according to him English football was still easier in the old days.
Has a Team Won it 3 years on the trot recently now they haven't. Closest to manage this was Juventus getting to the Finals in 96,97,98 and only managing to win the 1st one. If it wasn't easier back then. How do you explain Forest coming from nowhere managing to quickly equal Liverpool's success in 79,80? Doubles Ten a Penny? Think you will find That No Ones won League and FA Cup Double since Arsenal nearly 8 Years ago now.
Any team who gets to the knock out stages can be considered tough opponents If Lyon are a poor side how come Liverpool have failed to beat them twice when they have lost Juninho and Benzema? What does that say bout you. Chelsea have also knocked you out in twice in a row and were only 1 minute away from the Final last year! Roma nearly put Arsenal out and were unlucky to lose on pens and Sporting have produced several great players including World Player of Year Ronaldo!
Not beating Lyon says that Liverpool are poor right now. Still Lyon only won with a last minute winner and got the eqaliser in Lyon via a handball.
Roma (in recent years) are average, Lyon choke in the knockouts, Sporting are nothing much.
Man Utd's 2008 win was hardly a hard fought campaign against the best teams they could possibly face. Chelsea outplayed them for most of the final. Man Utd won via a very lucky penalty shootout ...the thing you have complained about Liverpool doing.LOL..
Liverpool were not knocked out of Europe for 3 seasons running. I call that an 'ERA'.
And more (unlike Bayern and Ajax earlier) Liverpool CAME BACK to win more Eurpean Cups in 1981, 1984 and would have undoubtedly won more in the mid to late 1980s.
Liverpool were a better and stronger team than Bayern and Ajax over many more years.
Er Bayern and Ajax came back and won it in 1990s and 2000s Ajax got to 2 finals in a row! in 95 and 96. They both won it 3 times in a row Which Liverpool never managed!! You could argue that Everton,Forest, Spurs, Arsenal and even United could have won in Europe in mid to late 80s but they never got their Chance because of what SOMEONE ELSE DID! This season's C.L proves how bad Liverpool are and they have just been lucky in recent years!
""Er Bayern and Ajax came back and won it in 1990s and 2000s""
That was twenty years later. I'm talking about the same team coming back in the same or follow on era.
Liverpool won it in 1977 and 1978. They didn't win the EC in 1979...but they came back just a couple years later and won it again, and again in 1981 and 1984.
Bayern and Ajax didn't win it for DECADES after their 70s 'era'. The point is, Liverpool lost the EC, but soon rallied and WON IT BACK within a few years.
70s and 80s are 2 different decades just like 90s and 2000s are Ajax and Bayern had most of the players who played/or won the world cup final in 74. So they were clearly better teams! Liverpool had a load of Scottish and Irish Players! The Ajax team of the 70s and mid 90s would piss on any team that Liverpool put out! Bayern got to Finals in 1999 and 2001. Both teams could and should be at least level on European Cups. But Liverpool have had 2 flukey Pen-shootout Wins!
By your silly analogy then, Borussia Monchengladbach were better than Liverpool because Borussia had half of the German World Cup and Euro Champs winning teams and Liverpool didn't?? Yet Liverpool beat Borussia three times out of three. How about that???
The Best team doesn't always win the final and Borussia clearly weren't anything special as soon as the 80s came they did nothing Bayern weren't back and won it again! Liverpool have faced nobody clubs in finals and only time they have beaten a decent team it's been by luck/pens! If Milan had actually got the luck they deserved in 2005 we wouldn't even be having this conversation as would be no doubt Ajax/Bayern are the better teams!
Stop digging your own grave. Borussia Monchengladbach weren't anything special? Er they won FIVE Bundesligas in the 1970s. That was more than Bayern did in the same decade. They won 2 UEFA Cup in that period and got to 3 other finals. It's not their fault they kept coming up against the best team in Europe (Liverpool).
Bayern won 3 european cups in a row which easy eclipses Borussia. Any team can have a good 'spell' or 'decade' but if they don't keep it going then they can't be considered to be a great team. Had you played against Bayern instead of Borussia you would have had no chance! You got lucky with the draws and avoided all the best teams you just have to look at the runs you had in the 70s! Any of the top English Teams would have done the same! and Villa and Forest did!
I can claim Liverpool should be on about 8 European Cups then as they were at their peak during the 5 year ban. I can cliam Liverpool should have won the 2007 final if Inzaghi didn't handball that goal.
er Inzaghi didn't 'handle' anything and you got what you deserved from Milan due to you robbing the of a cup they clearly deserved in 2005 over the whole game! Liverpool Could just as easily only be 3 cups if a few decisions in the 1984 and 2005 hadn't gone their way as well! Their record flattered them as they aren't a Great Team. Only record they will set now is going out at every different stage of the competition since 2005!
The free kick CLEARY deflected off Inzaghi's arm in 2007. It wasn't intentional but it still came off his arm and should have been disallowed.Stop pretending you even saw the 1984 finalPst, there was a Milan handball in the penalty area in the 2005 final when it was just 1-0 but Milan got away with it then too. Swings and roundabouts. What about 1985? Meaningless game after the tragedy but the Juve 'penalty' was easily a yard outside the area. That could have been EC number 5.
Yes I have seen 84 and 85 finals and in 84 your goal came from a foul on the keeper so you clearly deserved a bad decision in 1985! I've seen the 2007 final and you can see clearly hit his chest! So you are talking nonsense. Milan in 2005 had all the best chances and murdered you 1st half. The penalty was very debateable and 2nd goal came after Milan should have had a free kick but the ref ignored the linsman and played on!
The ball hits Inzaghi's chest AND ARM just at the elbow joint. It was handball. It touched his arm and was deflected into goal. It should have been disallowed.
Yes Milan were better in 2005.....and Liverpool were better in 2007.
That's because it was easier which is why lots of different teams won it Derby,Forest,Leeds. The Quality of Football and quality and toughness of the competitions has improved and Liverpool still play like they are in the 80s but they aren't which is why in the last 20 years they've barely managed a trophy ever other year! That Lucky win against Milan is only thing they have done since 1990! Football Improved, Liverpool Hasn't Simple.
The League was easier back then? LOL, then how come the average number of lost games was much higher back then? Even the champs used to lose half a dozen games each year. Back in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s there was quality throughout the league and 13 different English teams won European trophies. Nowadays, nobody outside the top few are good enough to win in Europe. Look at how pathetic the English clubs do in the UEFA Cup. There is a serious lack of quality outside the top 4 in England.
United have Faced Benfica, Barcelona Twice, Chelsea and Bayern in Finals ALL Good Teams who all had World Class players in their teams when we played them. Liverpool played less games in the 70s and the likes of the Mighty Crusaders, Trabzonspor, Zurich, Club Brugge,Dynamo Dresden. and you really think it wasn't easier? in 99 United had Barca and Bayern just in their Group Stage! in 1978 Liverpool got a Bye in the 1st round! Completed Deluded You Scousers.
Liverpool have faced Borussia Monchengladbach (twice), Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan (twice) , Roma (in their OWN stadium) in finals. Liverpool have also beaten the likes of Barcelona (twice), Bayern, Chelsea (twice) in the semi finals on the way to finals.
Sooooooooooooooooo easy.
Liverpool have WON in the San Siro, Bernabeau and Nou Camp in recent years while the Liverpool of old LOST to teams such as Tblisi, Poznan, CSKA Sofia. Yes, it was very tricky behind the Iron Curtain back then.
So what Arsenal won 5-1 in the san siro and 1-0 in Madrid. Before you should they get a trophy for that as well? How many of those games have you 'won' by relieing 'Away Goals' Ghost Goals and Penalties. Juventus and Milan Both Beat you. and the Real team you face last season was a joke Barca beat them 6-2 in their own ground! If you had faced them when United faced them in '03' when they were Defending Champions you would have easily been out after the first leg!
When have Arsenal won at the Nou Camp, San Siro and Bernabeau in consecutive season? These are considered THE three great theatres of football on the continent. Man Utd have never won in any of them have they LOL?
And don't talk about ghost or dodgy goals. How many times have Liverpool been done by the ref? 2007 final? 2008 semi? 2007 semi? Swings and roundabouts sunshine.
Oh yeah it's more of an achievement if you do it in 1 year than if you beat team consistently over several years! You beat a Injury hit Real Team that hadn't even got past the 2nd round in 6 years! So you won thanks to Barca's dodgy defending you still lost the 2nd leg and went through on away goals. I'd rather draw at San Siro and win the home leg than win their and lose the home leg and go through on stupid away goals rule or penalties!
ello again matey! 25.11.2003, arsenal 5 Inter 1, 4.3.2008 arsenal 1 ac 0 at the old san siro ladio, 22.2.2006 arsenal 1 real 0 and in wasn't at highbury chappy duck. first things first get your basics right though that doesn't seem to be your strong suit. o and by the by we did it without killing anyone
So why can't they mention recently History i.e last 15-20 Years! Oh yeah that's right they haven't got any! ****Wanted Successfull Liverpool Team**** Last Seen in the 1980s!
""****Wanted Successfull Liverpool Team**** Last Seen in the 1980s! ""
So being European Champions League Winners in 2005 wasn't a success then? I'm sorry, when did the Premiership become the be all and end all of football?
A Champions League, a UEFA Cup, two F.A Cups and two League Cups in the 2000s is a much better record than Man Utd in the 1970s or 1980s.
2005 semi. Chelsea should have been down to 10 men and a penalty awarded to Liverpool. Gudjonsen's cheating also got Xabi Alonso wrongly banned for the second leg.
2007 semi. Dirk Kuyt's extra time goal was wrongly ruled out for being offside.
2007 final. Ingazhi put Milan ahead via a handball goal.
2008 semi. Liverpool denied a blatant penalty at Stamford Bridge when it was 2-1. It could have put them through.
2007 Final Dirk Kuyt Last Minute Goal was WRONGLY Rule for being Onside! So you can't complain about Inzaghi 'handball' which funnily enough no one appealed for.
The fact you feel the need to highlight these just proves you ain't good enough to win without relying on decisions going your way. Rather than simply realising you were beaten by a better football team.
That surely shows that it was easy. You could lose more games and still be successfull! Rangers, Celtic and Middlesborough all got to the Uefa Cup Final in last 10 years so either it's easier or the bigger teams don't really care about it which is why team from Ukraine and Russia have been winning it recently! You could say the same as top 4 in Italy or Spain. Barca and Real are only teams capable of Winning it, Real,Juve,Inter maybe Roma. Because it's a harder competition throughout!
Since when are Rangers and Celtic 'English' teams?
Middlesborough are the ONLY English team out of the big 4 who have managed to even reached a European final these last 10 years. This shows that the English league has an overall lower standard than it did 20 to 40 years ago.
In decades gone by the overal quality of the league was much much higher and money wasn't as much of an issue. All teams had star players that were household names. The player quality was spread around.
I used them as an example because they are average teams a bit like boro were before they got relegated! No one cares about the Uefa Cup Final except teams trying to build a reputation or take a step up to next level. Everton and spurs only went out on pens in 08 to decent teams! and would have faced each other next round anyway Bolton wen out cause they fielded a reserve team cause staying in the premiership meant more than 1/4s of UEFA Cup
ANYBODY with a knowledge of English football will tell you that in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s the English League had more capable teams than those just in the top 4. Nowadays that's not so true. The league is very weak outside the top 4 or 6. Even a club as huge as Man Utd consistently couldn't finish higher than mid table in the 1970s and 1980s.
The Premiership sounded the death knell of an in depth strong English league..
Cashback tries every old tired trick in the book to try and denegrate Liverpool European achievements in the 1970s by saying the opposition was weak......then he goes and praises Bayern and Ajax at the same time for winning in the same era.LMAO.
1974 final..Bayern needed a last minute lucky equaliser to get a replay v Atletico Madrid.
1975...referee robbed Leeds.
1976.....struggled to beat St Etienne who generally outplayed them.
In 1975 Bayern finished ELEVENTH in the Bundesliga.
They got to 3 finals in a row and won all of them. They had one of the greatest player Beckenbauer in their team and several world cup winners so they obviously had something about them. Liverpool can't even start to talk about anyone's else luck considering how much luck has gone into their recent successes! The point is Bayern and Ajax achieved more in Europe than Liverpool at the same time which devalues Liverpool's achievement as not as special as they think it is!
""Any team can have a good 'spell' or 'decade' but if they don't keep it going then they can't be considered to be a great team.""
Absolute nonsense. Borussia Monchengladbach had a DECADE at the forefront of German and European football. 5 German titles and 5 European finals, winning 2.
Leeds Utd were less successful in England and Europe over a similar 10 year period but EVERYBODY with football knowledge still recognises that the late 60s/early 70s Leeds Utd were a 'great' team.
So were Derby and Later Forest but look where all three teams are now. M'gladback only got to 1 European Cup Final which loads of teams have done. Love how you seem to think that putting FACT at the end of your OPINION makes it a FACT. Brian Clough didn't think Leeds were a Great Team just a Dirty Team! and we all know who had the last laugh in that little saga!
This great Bayern Munich team who would have pasted Liverpool if they met? Would that be the very same Bayern Munich who finished TENTH in the Bundesliga in '75, THIRD in '76, SEVENTH in '77 and TWELTH in 1978??
You mean THAT Bayern Munich hey?
It's a good thing for Bayern that THEY didn't come up against Liverpool huh? When did Liverpool even finish outside the top 2 during that time?
and neither are Liverpool they've just had 2 Lucky Pen Shootout Wins more than Bayern and Ajax! 99 was more Valid than 2005 as United were only 1pt from winning the League not 32 points! and so deserved to be in the competition! Anything Liverpool has done has been Matched or bettered by Other Teams! Before or Since! Milan and Madrid never needed Penalties and both have been to 23 Finals Between Them! There's No Debate at All they are Better than Liverpool!
4 Finals All aganst Great Teams! All with Hard Runs to the Final! Even in 68 we had to get past previou wnners Real and Benfica and in case you forget we put 3 past Benfica in 5 minutes and that didn't just taken them to penalties! Real had won it in 66! and also won it 5 times in 5 years all in the same which you'll find is better than 4 in 7! You have won more because you've faced easier opposition in the past simple as! No 3 or 5s in a row so you clearly ain't the best!
You're an idiot. You completey forgot that Liverpool also won the UEFA Cup in 1973 and 1976. That was when the UEFA Cup was a damn hard trophy to win. So for Liverpool it was 6 major European trophies in 10 years plus another final in '85.
Man Utd don't come within a million miles of that.
Cashback, you completely dismiss Borussia Monchengladbach from being a great team. They won more Bundesliga titles in the 1970s than Bayern Munich. They won 5 Bundeligas and had half of the German World Cup and Euro champs squad. Monchengladbach also won 2 UEFA Cups in the 1970s, were runners up twice. They got to 5 European finals in 7 years. Monchengladbach were a bloody great side.
How was it harder to win when there is less matches to play than these days? Have you seen the recent Uefa Cup Formats! Plus you get teams coming into it out of the Champions League in the latter stages (Liverpool will soon be one of them and doubt you will win it!). United have hardly played in the Uefa Cup in their History, they have had more seasons in the Cup Winners Cup which they won!
They played in the cup winners cup a trophy which was seen a better than the UEFA Cup because you had to actually win something to qualify! You can get in the Uefa Cup now by being 'runners up' 3rd in C.L Group or through the ridiculous "Fair Play" Rule! I said United 'History' not just 70/80s! United would have had a couple of European campaigns in mid to late 80s but "Someone" got everyone banned?
and like dumb scousers who couldn't take losing they didn't heed the warning! They should have just banned Liverpool. Liverpool won't be winning anymore European Trophys for a while now ban or no ban!
They did ban Liverpool. Liverpool got a separate ban.
English football got the other ban because of what other English clubs (including Man Utd) had already done in previous years which they got away with.
You do know that Old Trafford was closed in the 1970s because of your fans rioting don't you? Man Utd had to play a home game in Exeter or somwhere weird.
""Liverpool won't be winning anymore European Trophys for a while now ban or no ban!
FACT! ""
Just like Man Utd then? Mancs only ever seem to win one Euro trophy about once every decade LMAO!
You've only got 4. That's piss poor. Liverpool have twice that and have been in over twice as many finals. All the big boys have been in at least 10 European finals. Man Utd are a joke in comparison. An utter joke. Liverpool are seen abroad as the legend of English football.
The Cup Winners Cup was the weakest competition out of the 3. That's why they got rid of it and it doesn't exist anymore.
Few nations take their domestic cup competion extremely seriously which is why the Cup Winners Cup was seen as the weakest of the 3 European competitions. In contrast the UEFA Cup had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best teams from each country in it. It was more prestigious than the Cup Winners Cup.
Not according to the UEFA who saw it as the 1st competition after the European Cup! You can lose several games and finish 4th to win a Cup you can't lose one! They should have got rid of UEFA Cup instead then Bigger Teams might not see The F.A Cup or League Cup as a Resting/trying new players opportunity. The Uefa Cup has been devalued last 10 years. Middlesborugh got to a Final Recently for Gods Sake!
I'm not talking about the UEFA Cup as it is now. I'm talking about in the 1970s when the 2nd 3rd and 4th best teams in each country were in it. Liverpool won it TWICE when it was a tough competition back in the 1970s.
By the way, the UEFA Cup was a still a good competition when Liveropool won it in 2001. The teams they beat to the final...Olympiacos, Porto, Roma and Barcelona. All teams regularly in the Champions League and to packed partisan crowds as well.
No it wasn't Alvaes got to the Final and look at them getting relegated into the 2nd division of Spain 2 Seasons after that and are now in the 3rd Division, and you still needed a last minute golden own goal against 9 men to beat them! Roma and Barcelona weren't even bothered about it cause Roma were trying to win Serie A and Barca were trying to get 4th in La Liga to get in the Champions League!
I didn't say it was harder to win in the old days. It certainly was easier to be eliminated though, especially considering all those dangerous Iron Curtain sides. Even the smaller, lesser known sides could be tricky back then. Talent was spread around. Not so much now.
Brugges (who Liverpool beat in the 1978 final) deservbedly beat Juventus in the 1978 semi and had previously reached the 1976 UEFA Cup final. They weren't mugs.
I find it arrogant of a Man Utd fan to think that smaller lesser known teams can't have been much good back then just becuase they aren't big names now.
Does NOTTINGHAM FOREST ring a bell? Where are they now? Nowhere. Yet they were a better team in the 1970s than Man Utd were, that's for sure.
Likewise, Liverpool were given a tougher time back then by the likes of Tblisi or Poznan or CSKA Sofia than Barcelona or Madrid or Inter have given Liverpool in recent years.
The point being that they didn't carry it on and are regular contenders for the Champions League! Loads of Teams have got the European Cup Finals doesn't make them world beaters! Forest came from nowhere and won it twice in a row straight after Liverpool which shows it was easily back then. No Nation has dominated the C.L over a period of 5 years. Last Nation to have consecutive wins in the final was Italy in 89/90. It's clearly a much harder comepetition now!
So you think the 2nd,3rd,4th Teams from Italy and Spain are worse than the Winners of the Irish,Welsh,Finnish,Icelandic leagues then? 7 years in 2 seperate decades that have been lumped together as part ofthe same "Era" Forest Won it Twice in a Row, Bayern and Ajax won it 3 times in a row which is better than '2' in the 70s and then 2 in the 80s which is what it really what it is! You've not achieved something "Unique" they are completely Seperate Occasions!
Monaco v Porto is the Only time Teams you didn't expect got to the final! and Porto were very good and Most of their Players from that team went on the bigger clubs! Same with Monaco who had Morientes, Evra and Giuly amonst their ranks! Plus Neither had an Easy Run to the Final did they! Porto got past Real and United, and Monaco past Real and Chelsea on their way!
2 Reasons it was easier back then 1. The Quality of the Football/Opposition wasn't as High. 2 You had to Play Less Matches and could get an easier run to the Final Where as now You have to play more matches, there are no Easy Games!, There is no easy route to the final you will always Play 3/4 Good Teams! 30 + Years ago some of the ties were so One Sided it was a Joke! and the scorelines reflected that! 11-3s,8-1s, 9-2s! Never get those scores today do you!
Ok then if Liverpool are going to highlight seperate Dates to make an ERA! United between 99-09 was an Era 3 European Cup Finals 2 Wins which is better than Liverpool Record of 2 Cup Finals and 1 Wins! The UEFA Rankings Count for Nothings, and are a Joke! The Best Team is the Team is the Team that has won it! not the Team who won it 5 Years Ago! You didn't "Deserve" Fuck all because you are not good enough to even Justify Qualifying! United's Record Pisses all over Liverpool's in Last 20 Years!
Well Yes Actually United have done better as they reached 2 Finals in a Row! whereas Liverpool Prooved that 2005 was a fluke by going out in the 2nd round the next year to Benfica 3-0! In 2007 they only scraped past Maccabi Haifa to Qualify! and scraped past Barca on the stupid "Away Goals Rule" 2nd round then again on Pens against Chelsea! Who have knocked them out TWICE since prooving AGAIN it was a Fluke they got so Far! United's Recent Record is Far Better than Liverpool's!
No an ERA is 90s, 80s, 2000s etc Not Late 70s and early 80s bumped together!
and you wouldn't have won it in 2005 either? But considering United were only 1pt from 1st place in 97/98 and Liverpool Were 32 PTS! in 03/04 you can't say that you deserved to even be in the competition! 3 in a row just shows it was easier back then that it is now! as No one has even managed 2 in a row since Milan 89/90! Forest won it twice in a row after for God Sake!
This video is about Europe! Domestic is relevent only in regards to qualifying! B Mgladback nly ever got to one european final and have done nothing since the beggining of the 80s whereas Bayern went back and won it again so did Ajax! Liverpool didn't have an 'ERA' You won it on seperate occasions and in both games it could have easily gone the other way! Then Juve happend and you've done nothing since! Apart from benefit from a change of qualification rules!
No You weren't the best in the 70s or 80s cause other teams in that time achieved more than you 70s Ajax, Bayern winnin it 3 times in a row each! Forest Also Retained the European Cup Straight after you which shows it was easier to win back then! from 85-91 you got banned so you can't say you were the best in the 80s either! 77-85 is not an 'Era' Liverpool have just made it an era to make themselves look better than The Actually Are! Much harder competition Now! 1990 last time it was retained!
The point being that just because a Team has a Good Season doesn't mean they are neccesary as good the next season! Liverpool have always played teams at the right time! or when they have gone into a mini decline! If it was the Old Rules Liverpool wouldn't have even Played in the European Cup since 1985! So to say they are some giants again based on a couple of fortunate years is ridiculous!
and tonight........chelsea beat liverpool....no champions league for you! hahahaha.....you won't win the prem either! fuckin' good game too. CHELSEA 7 - LIVERPOOL 5 over the 2 legs. 4-4 tonight. just for history sake.
and last night....... barca robbed chelsea....no champions league for you! hahahhahha you won't win the prem either! just for history sake, you will never win CHL! hahahahaha
Amazing Liverpool Win a European Cup Without Needing Penalties! and Worse Real Madrid Team in their History! Early 80s All the Won was 1 Copa Del Ray! and Lost to Aberdeen in ECW Final! Doubt We Will see the Same Result Tonight!
Shame it wasn;t Like that at the Riverside today! eh? :-)! I take it 'Cesspool' are 'Concentrating' on the Champions League for yet Another Season then! LOL JOG ON!
Has anyone noticed, all five times Liverpool have won the european cup, they've been in red whilst their opponents we're in white each time!

Shock LIverpool dining out on achievements of the past! where are they and the fat spanish waiter that leads them in the champions league now? when was the last time this great club won the premiership? its pathetic!
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Then how do you explain that Rafa has spent more money since he started the Liverpool job than Fergie eh?
Cashback13 2 years ago
""If the league is so easy to win these days""
Shite, you can't even read. Who says it is 'easy'? It's easier if you have the most money, that's for sure. That's why Roman bought the league a couple of times and will probably buy it again this year.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Suppose we'll have to listen to plenty of European exaggerations of over 25 years ago! For a few years from Liverpool Now United have equalled a Record in just 19 Years that took Liverpool 90 Years to Get to! :-)! You can talk all you want about Finals 'appearances' but Juve and Benfica have been to 7 each and United have won more European Cups! Only Milan have been to more finals than United in the Recent Era! Enjoy the UEFA Cup if you actually manage to beat Debrecan next week!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""Suppose we'll have to listen to plenty of European exaggerations of over 25 years ago!""
It's not an exaggeration that Liverpool won SIX European trophies and got to SEVEN finals in just over a decade. That's a FACT.
No other team managed to do that in the same period. And on top of that, Liverpool won EIGHT English league titles during the same decade as they won those SIX European trophies. They ruled at home AND abroad.
Man Utd just can't compare. Never have, never will.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Er United won 8 Premier Leagues out of 10 Seasons. and have done something Liverpool couldn't do win it 3 times in a row twice again in a 10 year period! They also have won the TREBLE Which NO OTHER English Team has done since you keep going back to that? and Three League and FA Cup Doubles. Liverpool Died in the 90s and United are now the Best Team in England 18 Titles 11 FA Cups. Plus they have a chance to win it 4 times in a row another thing Liverpool haven't done.
Cashback13 2 years ago
""Er United won 8 Premier Leagues out of 10 Seasons.""
But they never dominated Europe at the same time did they? Liverpool won six European trophies. Even AC Milan have been more successful than Man Utd in Europe this decade and this isn't even their best team. Real Madrid dominated Europe too. Man Utd's European record this decade isn't even as good as Liverpool's.
It took Man Utd almost ten years to even get to another final from 1999 to 2008. That's fucking pathetic.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
It's called playing in a better competition with better quality teams. No Team has 'Dominated' The modern European Cup because it's a much harder competitions with a guranteed Tough run to the Final. No One has won it Twice in a row in 20 Years! United have been one of the few clubs who came close! 2 Finals in a Row is better than 2 finals in 3 years ya Fool!. Get back to the Eurodisney league where we know you belong and you've PROOVED you belong now!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback, by your own anology, the English League and English football in general must have been tougher in decades gone by because the 'Double' was a very very rare achievement and winning 3 league titles on the trot didn't happen for almost 50 years between the 1930s and 1980s. You can't have it both ways. On the one hand you say the European Cup was easier as teams won it 3 years running but on the other you claim the English league wasn't easier, yet teams didn't win it 3 times running.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
If it was so difficult teams wouldn't have been able to come up from the division below and win the English title shortly after such as Derby and Forest both did. Plus 6 Different Teams won the league in the 1970s. In the last 10 years only 3 have managed to. If it wasn't for Blackburn's 1 Season they same would be said for the 90s! Football has improved and that doesn't happen anymore because the Competitions are Much Harder!
Cashback13 2 years ago
But hey, at least Liverpool have won the Champions League and have consistently been one of the best performers in Europe last half a dozen years.
Champs League winniers. Champs League runners up. Utd haven't done any better.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
United have been consistently in the knock out stages over the last 12 years bar one season! and have mostly gone out to the eventual Winners or Finalists! 97 Dortmund, 2000 Ream, 2001 Bayern, 2002 Levekusen, 2004 Porto, 2005 Milan, 2007 Milan, 2009 Barca. + 3 Finals in 10 Years is better than Liverpool and Most Other C.L Teams!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""The modern European Cup because it's a much harder competitions with a guranteed Tough run to the Final.""
Man Utd's run to the finals of 2008 and 2009 weren't very tough at all. In fact both times you got the lucky side of the draw and you know it. The teams in the other half had it MUCH tougher.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Champions of Italy 3 Years Running, Champions League Winners in 2004/Portugese Champions 3 Years Running and never lost at home to an English Side, Arsenal one of the best Footballing sides around at the moment, and Barcelona who are only the 2nd ever team to win a Treble! (no prizing for guessing the first) Oh Yeah What an Easy Run! Lucky that CSKA September Flag don't qualify anymore.
Cashback13 2 years ago
Oh and by the way, the UEFA Cup might be fun. I'm not too proud. I'm not arrogant to think Liverpool should be above it. Both AC Milan and Bayern Munich have been in the UEFA Cup recently and if Man Utd didn't come BOTTOM of their group in 2006 then they would have played in it to LOL.
Besides, the UEFA Cup will make a nice change from playing in a fixed tie against Chelsea for the sixth fucking year in a row. Boooooring!!
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Fixed Tie so tel me what was 'Fixed' about them beating you 3-1 at Banfield Last season? Only time you beat them was down to Ghost goals and Penalty Shootouts! and it's never boring seeing Liverpool get what they deserve. Enjoy Debrecan tonight!
Cashback13 2 years ago
It was FIXED that they would be drawn together. If you think Liverpol playing Chelsea FIVE SEASONS on the trot didn't have something fishy about it going on then you are very naive. I'm not talking about the results being fixed, I'm talking about the teams being constantly paired together being fixed. 5 years on the trot? Come off it. That was fixed.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
By the way Cashback, no comment on Bayern Munich finishing TENTH in the Bundesliga in 1975? Or 3rd in 1976? Or 7th in 1977? Or 12th in 1978? Or 4th in 1979??
This is the team you reckon would have pasted Liverpool?
You facking muppet.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
So they had a couple of lean years due to their best player leaving for the U.S. They still dominated German Football in the 1980s and got to European Finals in 82 and 87! Whereas you went out defending 'your' Trophy to the "Mighty" September Flag who Bayern Beat 7-4 in the Next Round. What have B'Mgladbach done since the 80s oh yeah NOTHING. Whereas Bayern got to 2 European Finals in the 90s and 1 in the 2000s. No Comparison!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""What have B'Mgladbach done since the 80s oh yeah NOTHING. ""
I could have said the same thing in the early 1990s about Man Utd. In 1992 I could have asked "what have Man Utd done since the 1960s?"
It wouldn't have changed the fact that Man Utd were a great side in the 1960s. You are an idiot. You seem to think that just because a team isn't great anymore then it means they were never great. What kind of logic is that? Honestly, it must be hilarious living on Planet Manc.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Since the 60s they've Won 11 League Titles, 2 European Cups, 1 Cup Winners Cups, 3 League Cups, 8 FA Cups, 1 Intercontinental cup and 1 Fifa World Club Cup. Compare that to M'Gladbachs 1German Cup win in 30 Years and you might actually realise the difference! :-)!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback you tool.
Idiot.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback, no that's not mid table.
You did however, fail to mention the OTHER league placings Man Utd finished in the 1970s and 1980s. Man Utd also finished in these positions.
9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 18th and 21st (RELEGATION).
Since Liverpool last won the Premiership they have NEVER finished outside the top 8 and only 3 times outside the top 6.
At least RAFA has never taken Liverpool as low as a 13th place finish, which is what Fergie managed to do LMAO!.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
But the difference is Liverpool have benefited in the fact they have changed the qualifying rules for the champions league meaning you would have to finish 5th to not qualify. United would have had 8 C.L's capaigns if they rules had been in place then just like Liverpool have benefited from last 10 years or so allowing them to sneak another trophy to look better than they actually are.
Cashback13 2 years ago
Let's see now, according to Cashback the Eurpean Cup was easier to win in decades gone by because team won it three times on the trot.
Yet, no English club won the English League Championship 3 times on the trot between the late 1930s and early 1980s but according to Cashback it was still easier.LOL.
And 'The Double' was a rare achievement decades ago. Now it's ten a penny, but according to him English football was still easier in the old days.
What hypocricy.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Has a Team Won it 3 years on the trot recently now they haven't. Closest to manage this was Juventus getting to the Finals in 96,97,98 and only managing to win the 1st one. If it wasn't easier back then. How do you explain Forest coming from nowhere managing to quickly equal Liverpool's success in 79,80? Doubles Ten a Penny? Think you will find That No Ones won League and FA Cup Double since Arsenal nearly 8 Years ago now.
Cashback13 2 years ago
Let's have a look at Man Utd's most recent European Cup/Champions League win in 2008. These are the 'great' teams they played along the way.
Sporting, Kiev, Roma, (4 times), Lyon, Barcelona and Chelsea.
Only one of those teams has ever been champs of Europe. Roma has been mediocre for years while if Terry didn't slip then Chelsea would have won it.
That wasn't exactly a glittering array of high class teams Man Utd dispatched in 2008 LOL.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Any team who gets to the knock out stages can be considered tough opponents If Lyon are a poor side how come Liverpool have failed to beat them twice when they have lost Juninho and Benzema? What does that say bout you. Chelsea have also knocked you out in twice in a row and were only 1 minute away from the Final last year! Roma nearly put Arsenal out and were unlucky to lose on pens and Sporting have produced several great players including World Player of Year Ronaldo!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Not beating Lyon says that Liverpool are poor right now. Still Lyon only won with a last minute winner and got the eqaliser in Lyon via a handball.
Roma (in recent years) are average, Lyon choke in the knockouts, Sporting are nothing much.
Man Utd's 2008 win was hardly a hard fought campaign against the best teams they could possibly face. Chelsea outplayed them for most of the final. Man Utd won via a very lucky penalty shootout ...the thing you have complained about Liverpool doing.LOL..
FredFoswell 2 years ago
""Liverpool didn't have an 'ERA'""
1976 UEFA Cup winners
1977 European Cup winners
1978 European Cup winners.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Er Bayern and Ajax came back and won it in 1990s and 2000s Ajax got to 2 finals in a row! in 95 and 96. They both won it 3 times in a row Which Liverpool never managed!! You could argue that Everton,Forest, Spurs, Arsenal and even United could have won in Europe in mid to late 80s but they never got their Chance because of what SOMEONE ELSE DID! This season's C.L proves how bad Liverpool are and they have just been lucky in recent years!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""Er Bayern and Ajax came back and won it in 1990s and 2000s""
That was twenty years later. I'm talking about the same team coming back in the same or follow on era.
Liverpool won it in 1977 and 1978. They didn't win the EC in 1979...but they came back just a couple years later and won it again, and again in 1981 and 1984.
Bayern and Ajax didn't win it for DECADES after their 70s 'era'. The point is, Liverpool lost the EC, but soon rallied and WON IT BACK within a few years.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
70s and 80s are 2 different decades just like 90s and 2000s are Ajax and Bayern had most of the players who played/or won the world cup final in 74. So they were clearly better teams! Liverpool had a load of Scottish and Irish Players! The Ajax team of the 70s and mid 90s would piss on any team that Liverpool put out! Bayern got to Finals in 1999 and 2001. Both teams could and should be at least level on European Cups. But Liverpool have had 2 flukey Pen-shootout Wins!
Cashback13 2 years ago
By your silly analogy then, Borussia Monchengladbach were better than Liverpool because Borussia had half of the German World Cup and Euro Champs winning teams and Liverpool didn't?? Yet Liverpool beat Borussia three times out of three. How about that???
FredFoswell 2 years ago
The Best team doesn't always win the final and Borussia clearly weren't anything special as soon as the 80s came they did nothing Bayern weren't back and won it again! Liverpool have faced nobody clubs in finals and only time they have beaten a decent team it's been by luck/pens! If Milan had actually got the luck they deserved in 2005 we wouldn't even be having this conversation as would be no doubt Ajax/Bayern are the better teams!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Stop digging your own grave. Borussia Monchengladbach weren't anything special? Er they won FIVE Bundesligas in the 1970s. That was more than Bayern did in the same decade. They won 2 UEFA Cup in that period and got to 3 other finals. It's not their fault they kept coming up against the best team in Europe (Liverpool).
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Bayern won 3 european cups in a row which easy eclipses Borussia. Any team can have a good 'spell' or 'decade' but if they don't keep it going then they can't be considered to be a great team. Had you played against Bayern instead of Borussia you would have had no chance! You got lucky with the draws and avoided all the best teams you just have to look at the runs you had in the 70s! Any of the top English Teams would have done the same! and Villa and Forest did!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Shoulda woulda coulda.
I can claim Liverpool should be on about 8 European Cups then as they were at their peak during the 5 year ban. I can cliam Liverpool should have won the 2007 final if Inzaghi didn't handball that goal.
Etc etc etc.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
er Inzaghi didn't 'handle' anything and you got what you deserved from Milan due to you robbing the of a cup they clearly deserved in 2005 over the whole game! Liverpool Could just as easily only be 3 cups if a few decisions in the 1984 and 2005 hadn't gone their way as well! Their record flattered them as they aren't a Great Team. Only record they will set now is going out at every different stage of the competition since 2005!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Are you for real?
The free kick CLEARY deflected off Inzaghi's arm in 2007. It wasn't intentional but it still came off his arm and should have been disallowed.Stop pretending you even saw the 1984 finalPst, there was a Milan handball in the penalty area in the 2005 final when it was just 1-0 but Milan got away with it then too. Swings and roundabouts. What about 1985? Meaningless game after the tragedy but the Juve 'penalty' was easily a yard outside the area. That could have been EC number 5.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Yes I have seen 84 and 85 finals and in 84 your goal came from a foul on the keeper so you clearly deserved a bad decision in 1985! I've seen the 2007 final and you can see clearly hit his chest! So you are talking nonsense. Milan in 2005 had all the best chances and murdered you 1st half. The penalty was very debateable and 2nd goal came after Milan should have had a free kick but the ref ignored the linsman and played on!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Watch again on close up.
The ball hits Inzaghi's chest AND ARM just at the elbow joint. It was handball. It touched his arm and was deflected into goal. It should have been disallowed.
Yes Milan were better in 2005.....and Liverpool were better in 2007.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Liverpool weren't a great team?
Hmmmm.....6 European trophies plus another final in just over a decade.
At the same time Liverpool were winning their 6 European trophies in short time they also found time to win EIGHT English league titles.
What part of "great" don't you understand ? 8 English titles and 6 European titles in the same era and they weren't a great team?
Funny how English and European football was 'crap' only when Liverpool were dominating.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
That's because it was easier which is why lots of different teams won it Derby,Forest,Leeds. The Quality of Football and quality and toughness of the competitions has improved and Liverpool still play like they are in the 80s but they aren't which is why in the last 20 years they've barely managed a trophy ever other year! That Lucky win against Milan is only thing they have done since 1990! Football Improved, Liverpool Hasn't Simple.
Cashback13 2 years ago
The League was easier back then? LOL, then how come the average number of lost games was much higher back then? Even the champs used to lose half a dozen games each year. Back in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s there was quality throughout the league and 13 different English teams won European trophies. Nowadays, nobody outside the top few are good enough to win in Europe. Look at how pathetic the English clubs do in the UEFA Cup. There is a serious lack of quality outside the top 4 in England.
FACT.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Cashback's football logic is thus:
Liverpool weren't great and only ever won things coz the opposition was weak or couldn't be bothered.
Typical Manc reasoning. Of course, since Man Utd have become successful this changed and the opposition was much better and much more determined.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
FredFoswell 2 years ago
United have Faced Benfica, Barcelona Twice, Chelsea and Bayern in Finals ALL Good Teams who all had World Class players in their teams when we played them. Liverpool played less games in the 70s and the likes of the Mighty Crusaders, Trabzonspor, Zurich, Club Brugge,Dynamo Dresden. and you really think it wasn't easier? in 99 United had Barca and Bayern just in their Group Stage! in 1978 Liverpool got a Bye in the 1st round! Completed Deluded You Scousers.
Cashback13 2 years ago
FredFoswell 2 years ago

FredFoswell 2 years ago
Oh yeah it's more of an achievement if you do it in 1 year than if you beat team consistently over several years! You beat a Injury hit Real Team that hadn't even got past the 2nd round in 6 years! So you won thanks to Barca's dodgy defending you still lost the 2nd leg and went through on away goals. I'd rather draw at San Siro and win the home leg than win their and lose the home leg and go through on stupid away goals rule or penalties!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""I'd rather draw at San Siro and win the home leg than win their and lose the home leg and go through on stupid away goals rule or penalties!""
Id rather win 2-0 at home and then go and win 1-0 away at the San Siro. That's what Liverpool did.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
ello again matey! 25.11.2003, arsenal 5 Inter 1, 4.3.2008 arsenal 1 ac 0 at the old san siro ladio, 22.2.2006 arsenal 1 real 0 and in wasn't at highbury chappy duck. first things first get your basics right though that doesn't seem to be your strong suit. o and by the by we did it without killing anyone
sharmsala 2 years ago
sharmsala,
I can't see any Nou Camp victory in your list so Arsenal HAVEN'T won at all three bastions of continental football in successive seasons.
And without killing anybody? As far as I know, neither did Liverpool kill anybody in their victories in the Nou Camp, San Siro and Bernabeau.
Twat!
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Gotta love these muppets who resort to the 'killing' jibes. Are these the same people who accuse LIVERPOOL FANS of 'living in the past'? Probably.
As far as I know, it was a Man Utd fan who drove a bus into a group of Barcelona fans just 6 months ago, killing four of them.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
So why can't they mention recently History i.e last 15-20 Years! Oh yeah that's right they haven't got any! ****Wanted Successfull Liverpool Team**** Last Seen in the 1980s!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""****Wanted Successfull Liverpool Team**** Last Seen in the 1980s! ""
So being European Champions League Winners in 2005 wasn't a success then? I'm sorry, when did the Premiership become the be all and end all of football?
A Champions League, a UEFA Cup, two F.A Cups and two League Cups in the 2000s is a much better record than Man Utd in the 1970s or 1980s.
On and Liverpool didn't get RELEGATED either.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Don't Forget the 2-0 against Milan in the San Siro recently as well!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Don't talk to me about dodgy decisions, muppet.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
2007 semi - did it actually matter?
2007 Final Dirk Kuyt Last Minute Goal was WRONGLY Rule for being Onside! So you can't complain about Inzaghi 'handball' which funnily enough no one appealed for.
The fact you feel the need to highlight these just proves you ain't good enough to win without relying on decisions going your way. Rather than simply realising you were beaten by a better football team.
Cashback13 2 years ago
That surely shows that it was easy. You could lose more games and still be successfull! Rangers, Celtic and Middlesborough all got to the Uefa Cup Final in last 10 years so either it's easier or the bigger teams don't really care about it which is why team from Ukraine and Russia have been winning it recently! You could say the same as top 4 in Italy or Spain. Barca and Real are only teams capable of Winning it, Real,Juve,Inter maybe Roma. Because it's a harder competition throughout!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Since when are Rangers and Celtic 'English' teams?
Middlesborough are the ONLY English team out of the big 4 who have managed to even reached a European final these last 10 years. This shows that the English league has an overall lower standard than it did 20 to 40 years ago.
In decades gone by the overal quality of the league was much much higher and money wasn't as much of an issue. All teams had star players that were household names. The player quality was spread around.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
I used them as an example because they are average teams a bit like boro were before they got relegated! No one cares about the Uefa Cup Final except teams trying to build a reputation or take a step up to next level. Everton and spurs only went out on pens in 08 to decent teams! and would have faced each other next round anyway Bolton wen out cause they fielded a reserve team cause staying in the premiership meant more than 1/4s of UEFA Cup
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback,
You are always coming up with excuses.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Cashback tries every old tired trick in the book to try and denegrate Liverpool European achievements in the 1970s by saying the opposition was weak......then he goes and praises Bayern and Ajax at the same time for winning in the same era.LMAO.
1974 final..Bayern needed a last minute lucky equaliser to get a replay v Atletico Madrid.
1975...referee robbed Leeds.
1976.....struggled to beat St Etienne who generally outplayed them.
In 1975 Bayern finished ELEVENTH in the Bundesliga.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
They got to 3 finals in a row and won all of them. They had one of the greatest player Beckenbauer in their team and several world cup winners so they obviously had something about them. Liverpool can't even start to talk about anyone's else luck considering how much luck has gone into their recent successes! The point is Bayern and Ajax achieved more in Europe than Liverpool at the same time which devalues Liverpool's achievement as not as special as they think it is!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""Any team can have a good 'spell' or 'decade' but if they don't keep it going then they can't be considered to be a great team.""
Absolute nonsense. Borussia Monchengladbach had a DECADE at the forefront of German and European football. 5 German titles and 5 European finals, winning 2.
Leeds Utd were less successful in England and Europe over a similar 10 year period but EVERYBODY with football knowledge still recognises that the late 60s/early 70s Leeds Utd were a 'great' team.
FACT!
FredFoswell 2 years ago

FredFoswell 2 years ago
""! That Lucky win against Milan is only thing they have done since 1990! ""
Tell me, who is the only English team to win in the Nou Camp, Bernabeu and San Siro in recent years?
I'll give you a clue. It's not Man Utd.
Tell me, who is the only English club to win more than one Eurpean trophy in the 2000s?

and neither are Liverpool they've just had 2 Lucky Pen Shootout Wins more than Bayern and Ajax!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""Milan and Madrid never needed Penalties ""
Ouch. 2005 was a penalty shootout vs Milan.
Not Liverpool's problem they lost.
Milan won the 2003 final on penalties.
and both have been to 23 Finals Between Them!
FredFoswell 2 years ago
4 Finals All aganst Great Teams! All with Hard Runs to the Final! Even in 68 we had to get past previou wnners Real and Benfica and in case you forget we put 3 past Benfica in 5 minutes and that didn't just taken them to penalties! Real had won it in 66! and also won it 5 times in 5 years all in the same which you'll find is better than 4 in 7! You have won more because you've faced easier opposition in the past simple as! No 3 or 5s in a row so you clearly ain't the best!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback13,
You're an idiot.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Cashback, you completely dismiss Borussia Monchengladbach from being a great team. They won more Bundesliga titles in the 1970s than Bayern Munich. They won 5 Bundeligas and had half of the German World Cup and Euro champs squad. Monchengladbach also won 2 UEFA Cups in the 1970s, were runners up twice. They got to 5 European finals in 7 years. Monchengladbach were a bloody great side.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
How was it harder to win when there is less matches to play than these days? Have you seen the recent Uefa Cup Formats! Plus you get teams coming into it out of the Champions League in the latter stages (Liverpool will soon be one of them and doubt you will win it!). United have hardly played in the Uefa Cup in their History, they have had more seasons in the Cup Winners Cup which they won!
Cashback13 2 years ago
""United have hardly played in the Uefa Cup in their History,""
Yes because mostly in the 1970s and 1980s they finished outside the UEFA Cup placings LOL.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
They played in the cup winners cup a trophy which was seen a better than the UEFA Cup because you had to actually win something to qualify! You can get in the Uefa Cup now by being 'runners up' 3rd in C.L Group or through the ridiculous "Fair Play" Rule! I said United 'History' not just 70/80s! United would have had a couple of European campaigns in mid to late 80s but "Someone" got everyone banned?
Cashback13 2 years ago
LOL, 'someone' who got everyone banned was just the final straw in a LONG line of English football hooliganism going back to the mid 1970s.
Even Man Utd 'just' escaped a ban in 1977/78 after their fans rioted in St Etienne.
Uefa warned English football in 1985 that anymore trouble and they would be banned. It was 10 years of mayhem of which Utd played their part.
FACT.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
and like dumb scousers who couldn't take losing they didn't heed the warning! They should have just banned Liverpool. Liverpool won't be winning anymore European Trophys for a while now ban or no ban!
FACT!
Cashback13 2 years ago
They did ban Liverpool. Liverpool got a separate ban.
English football got the other ban because of what other English clubs (including Man Utd) had already done in previous years which they got away with.
You do know that Old Trafford was closed in the 1970s because of your fans rioting don't you? Man Utd had to play a home game in Exeter or somwhere weird.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
""Liverpool won't be winning anymore European Trophys for a while now ban or no ban!
FACT! ""
Just like Man Utd then? Mancs only ever seem to win one Euro trophy about once every decade LMAO!
You've only got 4. That's piss poor. Liverpool have twice that and have been in over twice as many finals. All the big boys have been in at least 10 European finals. Man Utd are a joke in comparison. An utter joke. Liverpool are seen abroad as the legend of English football.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
The Cup Winners Cup was the weakest competition out of the 3. That's why they got rid of it and it doesn't exist anymore.
Few nations take their domestic cup competion extremely seriously which is why the Cup Winners Cup was seen as the weakest of the 3 European competitions. In contrast the UEFA Cup had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best teams from each country in it. It was more prestigious than the Cup Winners Cup.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
Not according to the UEFA who saw it as the 1st competition after the European Cup! You can lose several games and finish 4th to win a Cup you can't lose one! They should have got rid of UEFA Cup instead then Bigger Teams might not see The F.A Cup or League Cup as a Resting/trying new players opportunity. The Uefa Cup has been devalued last 10 years. Middlesborugh got to a Final Recently for Gods Sake!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Wakey Wakey.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
No it wasn't Alvaes got to the Final and look at them getting relegated into the 2nd division of Spain 2 Seasons after that and are now in the 3rd Division, and you still needed a last minute golden own goal against 9 men to beat them! Roma and Barcelona weren't even bothered about it cause Roma were trying to win Serie A and Barca were trying to get 4th in La Liga to get in the Champions League!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Roma and Barcelona weren't bothered? LOL, the stadiums were full and Barcelona were hungry for their first success in Europe for years.
You are sounding more and more like the ignorant tool that you are.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
I didn't say it was harder to win in the old days. It certainly was easier to be eliminated though, especially considering all those dangerous Iron Curtain sides. Even the smaller, lesser known sides could be tricky back then. Talent was spread around. Not so much now.
Brugges (who Liverpool beat in the 1978 final) deservbedly beat Juventus in the 1978 semi and had previously reached the 1976 UEFA Cup final. They weren't mugs.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
I find it arrogant of a Man Utd fan to think that smaller lesser known teams can't have been much good back then just becuase they aren't big names now.
Does NOTTINGHAM FOREST ring a bell? Where are they now? Nowhere. Yet they were a better team in the 1970s than Man Utd were, that's for sure.
Likewise, Liverpool were given a tougher time back then by the likes of Tblisi or Poznan or CSKA Sofia than Barcelona or Madrid or Inter have given Liverpool in recent years.
FredFoswell 2 years ago
The point being that they didn't carry it on and are regular contenders for the Champions League! Loads of Teams have got the European Cup Finals doesn't make them world beaters! Forest came from nowhere and won it twice in a row straight after Liverpool which shows it was easily back then. No Nation has dominated the C.L over a period of 5 years. Last Nation to have consecutive wins in the final was Italy in 89/90. It's clearly a much harder comepetition now!
Cashback13 2 years ago
So you think the 2nd,3rd,4th Teams from Italy and Spain are worse than the Winners of the Irish,Welsh,Finnish,Icelandic leagues then? 7 years in 2 seperate decades that have been lumped together as part ofthe same "Era" Forest Won it Twice in a Row, Bayern and Ajax won it 3 times in a row which is better than '2' in the 70s and then 2 in the 80s which is what it really what it is! You've not achieved something "Unique" they are completely Seperate Occasions!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Monaco v Porto is the Only time Teams you didn't expect got to the final! and Porto were very good and Most of their Players from that team went on the bigger clubs! Same with Monaco who had Morientes, Evra and Giuly amonst their ranks! Plus Neither had an Easy Run to the Final did they! Porto got past Real and United, and Monaco past Real and Chelsea on their way!
Cashback13 2 years ago
2 Reasons it was easier back then 1. The Quality of the Football/Opposition wasn't as High. 2 You had to Play Less Matches and could get an easier run to the Final Where as now You have to play more matches, there are no Easy Games!, There is no easy route to the final you will always Play 3/4 Good Teams! 30 + Years ago some of the ties were so One Sided it was a Joke! and the scorelines reflected that! 11-3s,8-1s, 9-2s! Never get those scores today do you!
Cashback13 2 years ago
Cashback13 2 years ago
Well Yes Actually United have done better as they reached 2 Finals in a Row! whereas Liverpool Prooved that 2005 was a fluke by going out in the 2nd round the next year to Benfica 3-0! In 2007 they only scraped past Maccabi Haifa to Qualify! and scraped past Barca on the stupid "Away Goals Rule" 2nd round then again on Pens against Chelsea! Who have knocked them out TWICE since prooving AGAIN it was a Fluke they got so Far! United's Recent Record is Far Better than Liverpool's!
Cashback13 2 years ago
No an ERA is 90s, 80s, 2000s etc Not Late 70s and early 80s bumped together!
and you wouldn't have won it in 2005 either? But considering United were only 1pt from 1st place in 97/98 and Liverpool Were 32 PTS! in 03/04 you can't say that you deserved to even be in the competition! 3 in a row just shows it was easier back then that it is now! as No one has even managed 2 in a row since Milan 89/90! Forest won it twice in a row after for God Sake!
Cashback13 2 years ago
This video is about Europe! Domestic is relevent only in regards to qualifying! B Mgladback nly ever got to one european final and have done nothing since the beggining of the 80s whereas Bayern went back and won it again so did Ajax! Liverpool didn't have an 'ERA' You won it on seperate occasions and in both games it could have easily gone the other way! Then Juve happend and you've done nothing since! Apart from benefit from a change of qualification rules!
Cashback13 2 years ago
No You weren't the best in the 70s or 80s cause other teams in that time achieved more than you 70s Ajax, Bayern winnin it 3 times in a row each! Forest Also Retained the European Cup Straight after you which shows it was easier to win back then! from 85-91 you got banned so you can't say you were the best in the 80s either! 77-85 is not an 'Era' Liverpool have just made it an era to make themselves look better than The Actually Are! Much harder competition Now! 1990 last time it was retained!
Cashback13 2 years ago
The point being that just because a Team has a Good Season doesn't mean they are neccesary as good the next season! Liverpool have always played teams at the right time! or when they have gone into a mini decline! If it was the Old Rules Liverpool wouldn't have even Played in the European Cup since 1985! So to say they are some giants again based on a couple of fortunate years is ridiculous!
Cashback13 2 years ago
One Good Season does not a Good Era make! Milan Won European Cup in 2007 then the Next Season Didn't Even Qualify!
