Question to all native english speakers: I'm wondering how the sister hazel lyrics sound to you in general. When you listen to them or read them, do they sound kind of cheesy or schmaltzy to you? Or do they sound just normal to you, like a normal pop song? I'm asking this because I'm wondering why their great music is so unpopular in the USA and I guess that maybe their lyrics sound quite schmaltzy... It's difficult to explain what I mean... @Stingerfyle Gotta understand that the United States is hard to break into for the music industry. I personally love their music, and they were huge in the 90's. The times changed, and they didn't. I respect that more than I do their music.

Well, they became older now and I don't think they will have much more succes than they have at the moment. I'm from Germany and nobody knows them around here!!! Hmm. . . dunno about schmaltzy, but I don't think that they are /un/popular. Just not well known. I think it's more that they don't reach the level of superficial pop songs and so on. Also, possibly their genre and the choice of instruments and style aren't exactly mainstream. Hope that helps!

@Stingerfyle I personally don't find their lyrics all that cheesy, and considering the really low standard of lyrics in hit pop songs these days, I hardly think Sister Hazel's relative 'unpopularity' can be attributed to their lyrics.

I think the fact that their music is in a non-mainstream genre probably has a lot to do with it. Maybe they'd catch on more with some good PR - if a couple of their songs were on hit television shows or in some movies it might get more people to check them out.

I think they are like most 90s bands, they faded out - some people hear their songs on the radio and it hits them "Oh, I love this song!"
