@tsartodd perhaps more like, what happens when you've only got half a day's filming left and you realise you haven't shot anything for the titles! John Nathan-Turner directed this sequence himself, and it's rumoured that it was largely made up on the spot.
I have been told to avoid watching this show at all costs. But having watched the titles, I'm desperate to do so out of morbid curiosity -- did they have a plot of some kind? Are there supporting actors, or will it just be one-word dialogue between Sarah Jane and K-9? Can it possibly live up to the level of mediocrity -- no, atrociousness -- promised in the titles? I will attempt to watch it sometime soon. (In that respect, I suppose the titles did their job!) Let's hope I survive the ordeal...

Wow this must be an awesome show! They drive around in a Pinto Convertible and go jogging, and stop at cafés and... sit on walls and.. stuff. The hell did I just watch?
@22tus No, Sarah Jane Smith (Elizabeth Sladen) is his owner/mistress and they wrk together to find out what has happened to her aunt and cousin when they disappear. K9 is a robot built by Doctor Who - well, this K9 is anyway - based on two others he used to have. She has the instinct and car, K9 has the brains and weapon - so they're a great team!
Can you guess the budget for this opening sequence? It would have had to have been pretty small as they felt that they needed highlights of all the cheaply made clips beforehand. But that's what makes it awesome.
@conoritania i dunno you're probably right about it ending up a shit show i just thought that K9 was pretty cool and it would've been great to see more out of him
well there is a new series of k9 that came out eaarly 2010, but on disney xd, but it was also shit so i dont really think they can make k9 an epi show, it doesnt sound right
@mightypower34; amen. Yeah, they're very "early 80s" but in a good way. Lots of nice analogue synth, and I like that sort of thing, so stuff anyone that doesn't like it. :-)
The visuals are a bit surreal- K9 incongruously in an "action"/"detective" drama style opening. It comes across almost as if someone's done a very effective straight-faced parody of something else. The repeated shots don't help, but the "wireframe" graphics at the start are pretty effective.
there's no cheese in the world quite like British cheese ...

Ah, the 1980s...the only way this could be more "of the 1980s" is if you had Reagan and Thatcher re-enacting A-ha's "Take on Me" in the background.

this is what happens when you're given a thousand-pound budget to film an intro, and you spend 990 pounds of it on a bottle of expensive wine.

If you asked the 2 teams on "The Apprentice" to make up a theme song and titles to a tv show, this is what the losing team would come up with.

This is just so 80s-tastic.
Reading newspaper, by a fence, stare at camera.
Sitting at a train station, drinking wine, with a typewriter.
Obligatory running shot.
Car, Car, K9.
Cut together bits of title sequence…
