Also agree, why are you putting this guy on a pedestal? His idea is great but he isn't this perfect prophet, he's fat and divorced numerous times. How is his life perfect after being radically honest?
@rvggarcon I personally find "radical honestly" the wrong chosen words. When you read the book the main message (for me) is that you may choose to live the way you want and then adapt your way of living by your EXPERIANCE not by RULES. Because rules were made yesterday and maybe wont fit in the world of today. In Blanton's words: Yesterdays Truth is todays bullshit.
He maybe is divorced many times but he's happy. I would rather choose that way instead of being married my hole life and getting depressed. An other example for this: This year were riots in London, one girl(with rich parents) took part in the riot, destroyed several shops and so on. To the newspaper she said: "I never felt so happy in my life" Why did she said that? In Blandon's theory it's because her parents (and the society) constantly told her how she SHOULD behave and to live by RULES
@utzutzutz90 the problem is, the didnt changed her thinking instead she started to live her life how other people want it. Her whole Life was a L-I-E! It's not her fault, but that of our society.
Now back to the riots. The first time in her life she did something that she wanted and she "never felt so happy in (her) life".
@utzutzutz90 Is that a joke? I used to go to a private school and my parents are relatively well off. Kids were having sex and doing drugs, anything they wanted to and payed people to do their homework, what kind of rules does the wealthy girl have to live by that the normal one doesn't? To be proper? Please. And your divorce excuse is oh so very convenient, he's supposed to have the perfect life because of his theory, but instead he's fat and divorced several times and lives ALONE.
@rvggarcon Yes he is, but he is happy with that. If you wouldnt be happy with that, its ok - but he is happy with that! Maybe the parents of the girl are lawyers. You are right it doesnt have to do anything about how rich or poor you are - rather about how you parents accept you like you are or tell to behave other (because rule xy says that)
It's all great, I'd vote for him, but you're an idiot if you're running for any office. I mean he goes and says "oh I disagree with that, so you might not want to vote for me." How do you expect to get elected?
And also he has a habit of TMI, ok, you want to be honest? Fine, but it's too much when you go on and on about questions no one even asked you. Like did you have an affair? Just say yes, no one asked if you had gonorrhea. TMI!!
I bought this guy's book, unfortunately. Life isn't as simple as he makes it out to be. He thinks honesty is a cure-all, but it simply is not. Also, he is fat and has been divorced numerous times. His life is not working out for him so why would you take his advice as gospel? Honesty is great, but it's not the be-all end-all solution to everything, and it's not ALWAYS warranted. Example, girl at high school dance asks you to dance: you don't say "No way, you're fat!"
you can be honest without being a douche.... If she asks you, just say "no, i don't want to" you don't have to out right say "you're fat" or just say "sorry I'm not attracted to you,"
it's better than dancing with her, and making her think you're interested.
what he's basically doing is trying to turn humans into their animalistic form, in a realllly lame bullshit intellectualized way.
the funny thing is, his big idea is that the ego death is the greatest acheivement one can make...and yea he's got a great point, the ego death is crucial for a human's growth and maturity, but he hasn't destroyed his ego, all he's doing is living it as it comes...he's a walking, talking version of his own ego, the physical manifestation of his childhood bs fantasy
i read the book. it was really engaging, hilarious actually, a lot of great insight but to be honest this guy has a disease himself, and it is the exact moralism he rails against. he thinks his thoughts actually matter, has he ever thought of...letting a thought just go? it is possible not to say every single thought on our mind. this guys a douche, he's an egomaniac, he wrote a really useful book, but something about his maneurisms and voice, his tone, everything seems just really shady to me.
He's an insightful, compassionate, and he's a very effective therapist. I'd say he's the ultimate "performance coach." Who here has the coursge to constantly tell the truth about oneself and see reality for what it is? From there, you can be anything, and achieve anything.
Being overweight isn't caused solely by stress. It's caused by lifestyle - a combination of diet and exercise, and genetics. But then, genetics contribute to emotional problems too, so this guys thesis is overly simplistic.
Set point - genetical "place of fatness", which means that genetically you're encouraged by your body to stay at that point and your body fights back when try to diet.
Settling point - lifestyle "place of fatness", you stay at some level of fatness because your lifestyle makes you stay there. To change that you'd have to proactively take measures.
The set point is generally a healthy place to be, it's never a risky level of fatness. Settling point for most people in the US is shit.

What the fuck do you mean by "One fact check on this guy and it's all over in the real political world" ?!?!
Are you implying that it's worng to have more than one wife and be with a beautiful women who is younger than you?
Are you one of those people who think that I man must remain faithful to one woman his entire life no matter how bad things are between them and no matter how much of an ugly fat bitch his wife will eventually become?
Radical Honesty works for him very well in groups and seminars but when it comes to big elections and Speeches he burns out like a firework with a huge pop.

There's a difference between being dishonest and being tactless, but Blanton does not know the difference.
