  • thanks for this tip as i really will find it useful!!!!! thanks an avid learner

  • When I do this, my background video (like a clip of throwing a grenade in an online game) completely covers my green/red/blue screen video, even when I put Chroma Keyer on the green/red/blue screen clip before or after the background. Using Movie Studio. Frustrated!

  • @MoonGuardAtMidnight If the background video covers the greenscreen clip, it means the chromakey effect hasn't been applied, or the color chosen in the chromakey effect doesn't match the color on the greenscreen effect.

  • @guerillabill So is there a specific way I can reset all the colours to match so I don't have to change them everytime that you know of?

  • @MoonGuardAtMidnight I have no idea of what you mean by 'reset all the colors'.

With the chromakey effect, you choose one color that is the chromakey background. That's all you have to do.

  • Does any video type work for this?

  • @KING20126 Yes, all video types work. But the higher quality video you start with, the better quality results you'll get. Highly compressed video formats (divx, xvid), produce poor results.

  • I'm trying to literally choose the compositing mode "screen", similar to "overlay". But all I get in Movie Studio are the options "overlay (mask)" and "source alpha"

  • Thanks for the Tutorial! Helped me a lot!

  • wow, that was really helpful :3 thank you so much!

  • i have a question i wanna add some bullets falling to the ground and a blood splatter effect with a green screen can i do that

  • @CrazyIdeaFilms You don't need green screen to add bullets or effects. You just need to have the effects on alpha channel video. But if you have them on green screen video, that can work too.

  • This helped me tremendously! Words cannot express how much this helped. I searched hours & hours for videos that were helpful & got no where. This one was perfect. Thank you so much!

  • Just a few quick questions. First, I'm assuming this can be done on vegas with two videos (a video as a background, and the talent foreground video)? Also, is it possible to do scaling and change the relationship between the talent and the superimposed background?

  • @coolmanak Yes, you can use a video background with the green screen foreground video. And you can use pan & crop to scale the foreground or background video.

  • thanks bill i am subbing to you@@@@

  • Fantastic job of explaining the use of this effect in Vegas Movie Studio. Well Done! Thanks. ~Matt

  • Is there a tool that resembles the masking effect? Or is that only for Vegas Pro?

  • @XMayhemMondayX The masking effect is only in Vegas Pro. The closet thing to it in Movie Studio is Cookie Cutter. It doesn't allow you draw around an object. You are limited to circles, ovals, squares, diamonds, rectangle masks.

  • can u teach me how to make video transition like a pro ?

  • @ClewiProduction Pros usually use cuts and dissolves. To do a cut, just bring one clip right up next to another. To do a dissolve, drag the clips so they overlay each other about 13 frames.

  • OK I use Vegas Movie Studio 10.0 Platinum.

Every time when I do Green Screen, the window that popped up in your video to adjust the color, it does not come up in mine. Is there anyway to get that window?

    - Please Reply -

  • @EmoNachoProductions If the window doesn't pop up, it usually means you have docked the effects window behind another window or tab. To find it, view my YouTube video 'Find lost windows in Sony Vegas'.

  • Very simple and helping video! thanks :)

  • On the 10th version is there cookie cutter or what ever its called?

  • @CanimeStudios Yes, there is a cookie cutter effect in MS 10. I have a video showing how to use it on YouTube.

  • @valelmheart Sounds like you docked the control window behind another window or tab. To avoid this, always close the control windows with the x in the upper right corner.

To find the window you've docked, see my YouTube video 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'

  • THANKS!!! I am suscribing for sure!

  • where do you get a green screen? how much is it?

  • @Disturbed58585858 You can use any solid color background material. Even a sheet or tarp or shower curtain or painted wall. Blue or green usually works best. You can find greenscreens at eBay & Amazon, or make your own out of green poster board.

  • BRAVO ... easy, simple, great tutorial ... Thanks

  • Im haveing trouble trying to find out how to mach the preview in sony vegas to the event fx editors key frame time line,

When im adding effects with keyframes the video previewer doent folo it so im editing blindly. If anyone can tell me how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

  • @llparasitell Left click on the keyframe timeline to have it sync up with the preview window.

  • shoot! i got a new computer and now i can't find my sony vegas movie studios any more nooooo!!!

  • thanko you so much! this helped me a lot!

  • Does it work on 7? I have the set of FX but I need an easier method! I would love your help sir... Thank you for spending time to look at your comments

  • @GiZmo3331 The chromakey effect is part of Sony Vegas and Movie Studio 5,6,7,8,9& 10.

  • @guerillabill Thank you I will do it when I have time

  • Does it work with sony vegas 7?? PLZ REPLY I WOULD SUB IF U ANSWER

  • Hi Bill, I have a small clip of me playing Guitar which is fine but when i add a motion background and use chroma key the whole thing becomes slow, jittery and unwatchable, also rendering does not fix the problem, do you know what might be wrong, many thanks.

  • @mark280172 If the clip is highly compressed, divx or xvid, that would cause the problems you are seeing. Or if the video is mov/mp4 from photo camera, that could be the problem.

In either case, the video would be highly compressed, and have had too much information compressed out to apply effects to.

  • plz help. I have a green screen but the top corners aren't turning black they go purple on me :P. I have lights and i use movie studio 9. but the top corners are purple in editing HELP

  • @Ryno893 If the greenscreen was not evenly lit, the corners could be different colors and difficult to key on.

You can use pan and zoom to zoom into the image, to get a better key.

  • Thanks. This will make my time using Vegas much better.

  • I bought a piece of stock video where the screen of a TV set is green screened. I thought I'd be able to drop in a video, chroma key the TV set clip, and the video would play in the green screened area of the TV. The video is completely filling the frame in a transparent nature. It's not fitting in the green screen area.

    What am I doing incorrectly?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joey

  • @dickieoneal If all you need to do is put a video clip over the TV screen, you don't need to use chromakey.

Just put the overlay clip on a track above the clip with the TV, and use pan and crop on the overlay clip to resize and position it to fit in the TV screen. I show how to do this exact thing in my YouTube video, 'Video overlay in Sony Vegas Movie Studio '

  • @dickieoneal you could use video-overlay and greenscreen.

  • quick and simple, thanks mate!

  • Oh this looks great! I saw some videos by Holly Kirby and I wanted to find a software that would let me at least do the green screen effect.

  • when i add the green screen to the timeline i can't see it

  • @SevenTailedWolf72 Put the greenscreen footage on a video track above all other footage.

Put the background image on the track below the greenscreen. Put your mouse on the greenscreen track, choose 'video effect', and apply the effect as shown in the video above.

  • thanks i always wabted to learn this u changed my turn of computers!! lol

  • thank you a lot!

  • Does this also render sound? Because I know other softwares dont

  • @jmass67 Yes, Sony Movie Studio edits audio and video, and renders the production with full audio and video.

  • @guerillabill Thanks, your videos really helped.

  • hey my green screen works fine, exept when i go on the screen im transpernt anyone know y?

  • @Eletnix3 See my other YouTube video about greenscreen - Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio

  • it woks in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 7?

  • @torcalaca Yes, Chromakey works in Movie Studio 7.

  • For some reason, in my VideoFX I only have 6 tools...

Defocus, Fill Light, Glint, Rays, Soft Contrast and Starburst.

I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 9. Do you know why this is?

  • @AussieAkom those sound like custom effects. In the eventfx window, choose 'sony effects'. This will bring up all the sony effects.

  • tks Bill..........I own the 9.0 version..........am I limited to some of these toys??

    torchidman.

  • @torchidman Movie Studio 9 definitely has chromakey effect option. If you have Movie Studio Platinum you can edit and render HD, plus have all the options in Movie Studio standard.

  • Whats the difference between Sony Vegas Pro and Sony Vegas Movie Studio?

  • @UnrealNate Sony Vegas Pro and Movie Studio have the same layout, same workflow, same effects and transitions. Vegas Pro costs $500 and has additional effects like masking and 3D. Movie Studio costs under $80 and has 95% of the effects and features of Vegas Pro.

  • thank you

  • THANK YOU!!

  • Great! hope it works with my version of movie studio. Thanks for the great video!

  • @TheGunKiller Sony Movie Studio Platinum HD 10 is what you want

  • You where very helpful thank you soooooo much :)

  • one old quick question lol... why.. when i drag my videos to vegas movie studio i dont get any "audio" just the "clip" thanks bro

  • @nfc127 If the clips are mp4 or mov, you may need to apply the patch that Sony offers for Sony Movie Studio. Find out about it at in my YouTube video 'Fix mp4 audio problems in Sony Vegas Movie Studio '

  • thank you for answering my question... you been helpful once again

  • why does my vegas movie studio lag??? send me a message?? thanks bro

  • @nfc127 Your videos lag in the preview window because real time video preview requires a fast computer and fast video card. If you have the preview window settings to high, your computer can't keep up with the real time processing. Try lowering the preview window settings to 'preview, auto'. Or find a faster computer with more memory.

  • thanks man! this video was very easy to follow and very helpful!

  • thx for the tip, I never knew how to use the chroma keyer.

  • howd u get ur name like that?? send me a message w? ur answer plzzzzzzzz

  • @rsgamer98 I used the channel branding options in YouTube. Find a video on my site showing how I did it.

  • Thanks this will come in very handy for my 3d work.

  • umm could i do this except do it on call of duty? by a green grassy area

  • @princedarkness1234 You need a solid color background . . .

  • I was wondering if someone could help me with the problem. My software is Vegas Movie Studio 9. I used to be able to publish videos of any size, including almost six minutes once. Then suddenly for an unknown reason I could not do it for videos under 3:00 minutes. Now, today out of nowhere that didn't even work. Please someone help me if you think you know what's wrong with it, I really want to get back to my videos!!!

  • @myfinedays You may have run out of space on either the drive set as 'temp drive' or the render to drive in Movie Studio.

Check the free space on your hard drive.

  • @guerillabill Thanks, I'll do that!

  • Extraordinarily helpful and simple advice -- thank you sir.

  • Woot! This Helps A Lot! Thank you (;

  • i dont know any site to download vegas pro 9 from if u know PLS REPLY?!

  • @3omar619 You can download trial versions from the Sony web site.

  • @guerillabill i know the trial version has ended i dont where to get a the full one

  • @3omar619 You purchase it through either Sony or Amazon

  • WHAT SITE IS FREE FOR MOTION BACKGROUND

  • @bondurk Sony has some free motion backs. Search google for 'heaven in motion' to find them

  • @whitebub Search google for 'motion backgrounds'

  • @whitebub Sony Movie Studio does not come with moving backgrounds, but you can find many that you can download for free.

And you can use any image, photo, video, screen capture, etc as the background

  • its really all confusing for me because ive gt sony vegas 9.0 pro, and its different to sony vegas 8.0 pro

  • @ILovesucksI The only difference between Vegas Pro 8 and Vegas Pro 9 is the placement of the timeline. See Youtube video, 'Change Timeline placement in Sony Vegas' to move it back like it was in previous versions of Vegas Pro

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

  • What if you have't got the chromakey effect in your Video FX

  • @PowertoInfinity All versions of Sony Movie Studio and Sony Vegas have the chromakey effect

  • dude this is awesome!! thanks!!!

  • you've just made me save 1000$ for buying a mac....

  • Thanks :D it helped me alot.

  • question is this affect reversible? i.e. a video is already green screened [for example like toy soldiers by eminem] would you be able to the change what has been green screened for example make the video have eminem in front of say a giant duck?

  • @DNicholson23 The green screen effect can be applied to any solid color background in the video. If the video background is not a solid color, the chromakey effect won't work

  • @guerillabill it's not a solid colour but it USED to be until they chromakeyed it i was wondering if it could be reversed and i could put my own stuff in :/

  • @JustVlogThat You can't reverse the chromakey effect they added, unless you have access to their original video without the effect and just the green background

  • would this work without a green screen?? like what if it were to be Blue or White??

  • @Kajarts The chromakey effect will work with any solid color - blue, green, white - any color

  • @guerillabill yea, but green or blue will work the best because alot of clothing has whites and pinks so it wont show up as well

  • how much is this?

  • @denzelsoriano Sony Movie Studio HD is available from Amazon for under $30

  • Simple explaination. TY!

  • Thanks :)

  • i have my wall in my room ..green but its not working..

  • @crissblaziny See my YouTube video 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • THANX for this tutorial, is very good!!!!

I need to know if the backscreen must be green, or can be other color as blue or white, I don't know. Thanx again!

  • The backscreen can be any color, although blue and green work best.

  • thanks! i need this efect! thanks you very much :D

  • Nice tutorial, thank you for your effort.

    I have a question.

What is the difference between sony vegas pro and this program, cause vegas is a lot more expensive?

  • The main difference between Sony Vegas Pro and Sony Movie Studio, is Movie Studio is limited to 4 video and 4 audio tracks. Vegas Pro has no limit.

Vegas Pro also has a few more effects, like masking.

The interface and controls of both programs are identical

  • Thank you very much!

  • i have 3 questions sorry

    -------------------------------

-does it matter what camera u use?

-can we put backgrounds which move?-

-and if we move around will the green screen still work?

  • Any video camera will work, but video compressed with divx or xvid won't

You can use anything for the background, photos, videos, animations

You can move as much as you like - as long as your camera records motion well

  • thnx

can i use my phone ?

  • Not if you want to edit the video or apply effects. The video files from phones is highly compressed, low resolution video not suitable for editing

  • i m very sorry but

-i can still do green screen thou right with phone

    - whats divx or xvid :$ i m stupid

  • If in doubt, just try using the video from your phone. Who knows, maybe it will work!

  • thnx

  • @showworld100 your phone aint really that good quality so the effect wont work that well.

  • Very useful, thanks!

  • great! cool thanks !

  • how you got a green screen? Please tell me, I want to have a screen

    Nice Vid ;)

  • You can order a green screen from ebay, or make your own using green or blue poster board and taping up on wall

  • does this works only with green screen thingy? can it work with other colors?

  • The chromakey effect will work with any solid color background

  • thanks. easy as pie

  • Big thank you.

  • Does this work on sony vegas pro 9?

  • Yes, works in all versions of Sony Vegas Pro and Sony Vegas Movie Studio

  • Thank you for this.

  • Very helpful tutorial!

  • thanks soo much

  • Thank you perfectt!!

  • thanks man :)

  • omg i was like gettin pissed off with my green screen cause i didnt no how to use the program but after watchin this vid im like i was so fuckin stupid lol. thx for helpin

  • thank u ! I'm going to use green screen in my next video :)

  • Thank you for this tutorial!

  • Where do you get the moving motion backgrounds?

  • I licensed the animation backgrounds from digital juice com

  • Comment removed

  • Is this feature also available in Vegas Pro 9?

  • Yes, the chromakey fx is included with all versions of Vegas Pro and Movie Studio

  • Thank you soo much!! Now i understand how to Chroma Key! This was so easy!

  • Thanks Bill! I cant wait to try this tomm! I love YouTube. A+

  • great tutrorial, just have to buy a cheap green screen set, any reocmendatins, were do u get your sound fx form

  • You can use green poster board from Office Depot, CVS, Walmart to build a greenscreen background.

We license our audio from Digital Juice

  • Thank you soo much for the help

  • thanks a lot. I'm really glad I found this tutorial. It wasn't in the show me how. Rated 5 stars! Great tutorial!

  • it puts the image over me too how do I fix this?

  • View my YouTube video 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • You have to put the image UNDER your video clip

  • Does this program work with any videos or does it have to be from a Sony HD camera can it work with videos taken from a Sony Digital Camera not in HD.

  • Sony Movie Studio will work will work with video from any camcorder.

Like most video editing programs, it doesn't work well with video compressed with divx or xvid (video games, cell phones, flip cameras).

  • Ohh ok that is something I really needed to know thanks alot.

  • for a green screen could i use a green poster board would it work in sony vegas movie studio 9 HD ?

  • Yes, you can use green poster board. In fact, any solid color behind you will work.

Movie Studio 9 HD, definitely has chromakey effect.

  • This helped a lot! Thanks mate :D

  • Does the Chromakey effect come with the Movie Studio?

  • Yes, the chromakey effect is available within Sony Movie Studio.

  • Thanks! :)

Do you know if it comes with Sony Movie Studio 9 HD? :)

  • Yes, the Chromakey effect is in Movie Studio 9 HD.

The only thing 9 HD doesn't have is DVD Architect

  • Help! I did the usual chromakey dropper thing to get the color. Then, the cyan parts of the chromakeyed video turned dark blue!

I'm doing a green screen in an animation.

  • See my YouTube video, 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio' for solution

  • i tend to have a blurring green behind me... is this due to poor lighting or no?

  • See YouTube video 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio' to learn how to get sharper chromakey

  • I haven't tried it yet but thanks anyways! nice tutorial

  • thank you so much ur videos are the bestXDXD

  • You'll find more than 100 advanced Movie Studio tutorials in my DVD, '101 Tips & Tricks for Sony movie Studio'.
