  • loved journey to the west. wukong was a badass :D

  • Beautiful !! if you take this same exact form and add some speed and power to it You will be witnessing supreme divinity in action

  • ill stick to my regular ol' staff XD it kinda seems more like southern staff but less power.... no offence

  • @ReligionDestructor Forms teach in a short time, what years of punching a heavy bag may never teach. Self awareness and tactile coordination, along with various other mental strengths. Tell lyodo machida that forms are useless, or maybe George Saint Pierre? Melvin Armstrong? You don't know it all, and you're not acting very wise by insulting a fighting style that has been killing people for a thousand years.

  • nice stick work

  • Hung Gar!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • i'm sure you could relearn it (at least to some extent), semanjnanahcub. Our sifu records a lot of his forms because he knows he's not going to remember all of the perfectly and often relearns some in that manner. lots of forms to remember.

  • My sifus do not record any of his forms and yet he practices regularly and is able to remember every one of them. 2 sifus teaching in the same lesson, they often correct each other.

  • Not everyone needs a video reference. But in this case, both your sifus act as each other's reference. You just said they correct each other, which means that in order to be corrected, they'd have to have gotten it wrong.

  • It's funny, but they fought in a slightly different style, the younger one was more concerned with practical self-defence and street-fighting, but the older one was more concerned with the basics and stances and postures. That's why they corrected each other, not like they have gotten it wrong, but they had different interpretations of the same style.

  • kung fu is the way of finding your own way

  • you really have no idea what the purpose of a form is, do you, RD? That's ok, your ignorance definitely benefits the rest of us who actually know martial arts.

  • yeah, and there's nothing as embarrasing as getting beat up up by a wooden stick :D

  • what about a spoon?

  • i got this on vhs ,my first weapon

  • This is a really great staff form. I'd hate to be clobbered by that thing.

  • what this video shows is a basic martial arts form. in the chinese martial arts there are various branches of kung fu, many of them based on various animal fighting styles. The story of the monkey king takes place in the classic chinese epic, "the journey to the west," in which the main character, the monkey king, accompanies a monk and his disciples on a long and dangerous journey to retrieve a set of holy scrolls. it's a very interesting story, you should look it up if you have time.

  • The Monkey King was known to be an agile and graceful fighter, the Northern staff actually suits him better (I think)...

  • great execution! Wing Lam is a real Master!

  • The chinese monkey king legend talks about a mistical journey, a sort of quest made by a monkey with a staff which had the property to increase or to decrease its size. In his fellowship there were others mithological animal each with a particular meaning in the chinese tradition.

A lot of manga and anime took inspiration from this legend, Starzinger (a sort of sci-fi version of the story), Dragonball and many more... even in Saint Seya there are some elements which recall that theme.

  • coolness dudes

  • Sounds very interesting :P

  • What's it for mate? I don't understand the basics :s

  • the staff goku used is based on the monkey king story.

  • It's goku! xD

  • Saiyuki rules!

  • YYYYYYYYEAH!!!! =D haha

  • that's so good...

  • col avery
