I'm sorry...I know alot of people dislike Idina in this role...but I for one think she nails Florence perfectly. Vocally, she may not be as well equipped as some others who have played the role...her tone is a bit brighter then the normal Florence and she does have a few iffy moments in terms of pitch and tone...but the power and beauty of her voice just flies through the theater. And look at her acting...in the first act she plays Florence as a very hard, stern women but in the second act...
@degeorgetitanic (con't) when she begins to fall in love more with Anatoly and begins to really care about her father's whereabouts she transforms into this women who just wants answers and resolutions. And this plays beautifully against Josh's characterization of Anantoly. Their voices blend beautifully too. It has this raw power about it that borders on ugly but yet still sounds stunning and electric (esp. on the "You and I!" bit. ) I think Idina's glance to Josh at 1:45 is heart wrenching
is this josh guy the lead usually in the musical?? he maybe is new to the broadway scene? should be cool to catch some of his future works, could turn out good for him, he's got lots of potential..
I bought the DVD of this....believe it or not, your footage sounds better! The sound mix on the DVD is really muted and terrible. Thanks for posting this. I almost literally ran into Idina on the street in NYC when she while she was practicing for this concert...it's cool to see how it turned out.

These two fabulous singers gave the performance of a lifetime - you have to see and hear them on the DVD because these clips are not of a good quality. Idina and Josh - just brilliant. It was a flawless perormance.

i think idina did amazingly she was amazing with her acting and amazing with her singing as usual! everyone if you don't like it then don't comment if you don't like it then don't watch it and seriously i would like to see one of the people who commented on this video do better then idina did.

I just think that while shes got an AMAZING belting voice.her acting skills lack. She breaks all the stage rules (fiddling, hands in pockets, not cheating outward...etc) and her falsetto could definitely use some work.
listen, i absolutely adore idina, but i hear you. i feel like she can turn her acting skills on and off because sometimes she's a great actress and sometimes i can't even believe what i'm watching is her attempting to act. i also couldn't believe she had her hands in the pockets of that dress almost the entire second act.. that was really weird.

Hello :) I was in this show, singing in the ensemble. It was amazing, though Idina (sorry fans but it is true) was painfully under-rehearsed compared to Josh and Kerry. My point for writing this:: Am I the only person who noticed that in this video she says 'my happy birthday' instead of 'why is it over'???? :)

Thanks for posting this. Amazing. I've heard a rumor that it's supposed to be released on DVD and maybe CD sometime in December for those of us who weren't lucky enough to go to this wonderful show. IS there any truth to this rumor?
There is not real way to judge from this. Some TEENY recorder taped this. Idina is wonderful in the role as is Murney and Stephanie Block...its a great score to sing.
This "TEENY-recorder" is the smallest camera of the world - what do you mean? We were live there and it was difficult enough! Follow this! The quality of this camera is excellent! You can see all on the DVD in December I hope - but most of the fans enjoyed this clip I think! Ones more: follow this!
NO NO...you misunderstand. The quality is wonderful. I,personally, LOVE it! I was commenting on people talking about the voices and not thinking Idina is powerful, etc. As good a quality as the camera is, the speakers are still SMALL to take in such HUGE sound that a theater produces! So people can't get a true sense of what it sounded like THERE and mixed properly.
I think its great and I love these guys! Great job!

Can I just say, i wept liek a bloody baby at this-- Idina pulls the most beautiful awkward face at 'stories like ours'... its absolutely perfect! I think she rocks 8 bells of shit out of elaine paige as Florence. I just think she is wonderful here, absolutely awesome... she and josh make a cute couple. Also, Idina LOOKS beautiful- her hair, her dress everything. x
I love Josh Groban, but Idina didn't fit this part. I don't know, something about her voice just didn't fit. Elaine Paige was incredible in this part, and they need to find someone who at least comes sorta close to her. Still, I love this musical, and I always will, no matter who is in it. I love Josh!!! :D

Well I'm fine agreeing to disagree, but I disagree. :) What "fits Florence's voice" is entirely opinion, seeing that she's not a real character and thus we can't know what her voice is like. I just think her voice is wrong for the part.
Hmm, I get where you're coming from, but, you see different parts of her voice come through in other somgs (such as "Heaven helf my heart" or "Endgame") so in this instance I quite like the belt.
Stephen Schwartz was quoted saying he'd never met an actress so well drilled with her technique, and Glenn Ballard said he's never worked with an artist with as much stamina and he loved her unique voice...The people famed for this kind of performance are ALL technique - they sing a song to be pretty...but this is THEATRE, there needs to be more urgency to express oneself, and a real passion and emotion.

Stephen Schwartz writes very trite musicals, they are so simple..but yes she is good in wicked, and rent,..If we are going there.. (you do know all the parts elaine originated were written for her)...but in some musicals (no) idina in chess(Bad) no matter how much you like her you can listen to this and admit its bad and the styling is Horrible.. I will admit she is great in somethings..but Patti, Shirley Bassey,Linda Eder,Audra , those are POWERHOUSE VOICES... idina sounds like a 13yr girl
I disagree that Webber writes less simple musicals that Scwartz...(hysterics!) the musicality of Wicked was increddible, and the refrains have such depth, Elphaba's chord progression for example, you hardly recognise it between songs yet it's there. I think Idina has a powerhouse voice, and so do the majority of the peopl labelled as a "powerhouse." All the women you mentioned are very old-fashioned. That may be where we differ! I think it's time for musicals to move on! It's our generation now!

Hello :) I was in this show, singing in the ensemble. It was amazing, though Idina (sorry fans but it is true) was painfully under-rehearsed compared to Josh and Kerry. My point for writing this:: Am I the only person who noticed that in this video she says 'my happy birthday' instead of 'why is it over'???? :)
We have recieved confirmation that the show will be released on DVD and CD before March 29th.

Thanks for posting this. Amazing. I've heard a rumor that it's supposed to be released on DVD and maybe CD sometime in December for those of us who weren't lucky enough to go to this wonderful show. IS there any truth to this rumor?

There is not real way to judge from this. Some TEENY recorder taped this. Idina is wonderful in the role as is Murney and Stephanie Block...its a great score to sing.

This "TEENY-recorder" is the smallest camera of the world - what do you mean? We were live there and it was difficult enough! Follow this! The quality of this camera is excellent! You can see all on the DVD in December I hope - but most of the fans enjoyed this clip I think! Ones more: follow this!

NO NO...you misunderstand. The quality is wonderful. I,personally, LOVE it! I was commenting on people talking about the voices and not thinking Idina is powerful, etc. As good a quality as the camera is, the speakers are still SMALL to take in such HUGE sound that a theater produces! So people can't get a true sense of what it sounded like THERE and mixed properly.
I think its great and I love these guys! Great job!

Can I just say, i wept liek a bloody baby at this-- Idina pulls the most beautiful awkward face at 'stories like ours'... its absolutely perfect! I think she rocks 8 bells of shit out of elaine paige as Florence. I just think she is wonderful here, absolutely awesome... she and josh make a cute couple. Also, Idina LOOKS beautiful- her hair, her dress everything. x

I love Josh Groban, but Idina didn't fit this part. I don't know, something about her voice just didn't fit. Elaine Paige was incredible in this part, and they need to find someone who at least comes sorta close to her. Still, I love this musical, and I always will, no matter who is in it. I love Josh!!! :D

That is cool. I got Kerry's autograph when we saw her in Wicked. She is a very sweet person. What a powerhouse voice, too!

Well, that's debatable- but I dislike Idina in this role. In fact, I think she's COMPLETELY wrong for it. That doesn't make her suck, though.

Well I'm fine agreeing to disagree, but I disagree. :) What "fits Florence's voice" is entirely opinion, seeing that she's not a real character and thus we can't know what her voice is like. I just think her voice is wrong for the part.

She stayed in her chest voice...Which is much harder...and takes more skill...and basically she ruled...

I think she should have used her headvoice in this though. We all know she can belt and is fantastic, but wouldn't hurt to use a different sound.

Hmm, I get where you're coming from, but, you see different parts of her voice come through in other somgs (such as "Heaven helf my heart" or "Endgame") so in this instance I quite like the belt.

Stephen Schwartz was quoted saying he'd never met an actress so well drilled with her technique, and Glenn Ballard said he's never worked with an artist with as much stamina and he loved her unique voice...The people famed for this kind of performance are ALL technique - they sing a song to be pretty...but this is THEATRE, there needs to be more urgency to express oneself, and a real passion and emotion.

Stephen Schwartz writes very trite musicals, they are so simple..but yes she is good in wicked, and rent,..If we are going there.. (you do know all the parts elaine originated were written for her)...but in some musicals (no) idina in chess(Bad) no matter how much you like her you can listen to this and admit its bad and the styling is Horrible.. I will admit she is great in somethings..but Patti, Shirley Bassey,Linda Eder,Audra , those are POWERHOUSE VOICES... idina sounds like a 13yr girl

I disagree that Webber writes less simple musicals that Scwartz...(hysterics!) the musicality of Wicked was increddible, and the refrains have such depth, Elphaba's chord progression for example, you hardly recognise it between songs yet it's there. I think Idina has a powerhouse voice, and so do the majority of the peopl labelled as a "powerhouse." All the women you mentioned are very old-fashioned. That may be where we differ! I think it's time for musicals to move on! It's our generation now!

it's Hard sometime to look past something that was so perfect..The thing with Chess is Elaine was Playing Elaine..it was about the real Affair and love mess with her and tim rice..I could argue that Elaine would have been good in wicked if it was written years ago.but the truth is sometimes certain voices fit certain things..no matter how much we love them..I am not trashing her, I am giving my opinion of her in THIS PART..Nothing wrong with Old fashion singing -Good is just Good
