Is it just me that thought Too Human was not as bad as people say it is? I personally enjoyed this basically new version of gauntlent with the slight taste of loot addiction. Ok the combat is pretty basic for the most part, but that seemed like it was just to ease players into the scheme of things in which at higher levels you fight multiple bosses at a time, dodging attacks hunting for secret rooms while crossing your fingers for epic weapons or armor to drop from them. Am I the only 1 ?

I just got a PS3, Uncharted and Rachet and Clank Tools of Destruction are the best games I've played. I was expecting Uncharted to be longer though. On hard I completed it in at least three sittings.

Let's face it, no review maintains 100% objectivity, and this one certainly is no exception.
Also, I don't understand why people talk about objectivity like it's the goal of a video game review. We give our opinions. Whether a game is fun or not is NOT objective, it's not supposed to be.

I'm not sure who you're responding to. We've said many times that we love and welcome rational, reasoned debate. Lots of our reviews have created lots of discussion, and that's great. What we object to is personal attacks, because they're nonconstructive and mean-spirited, and that's not what Noobtoob is about. Telling us something that you disagree with is fine, screaming faggot is not.
I welcome rational, resoned discussions about the pro's and con's of games, but bashing the developers, and playing a game for 10 minutes and trashing it is just as "ok" as folks who enjoy this game coming here screaming faggot.
Now, if you had spent time trying to figure the game out instead of simply writing it off, and THEN stated you didn't enjoy it for reasons "x" and "y", I'm sure some folks could deal with that.

I disagree that having an opinion about a game is "bias", that's not what that word means, despite how overused it is in the gaming world.
Our show is all about our opinions about games. We tell you whether or not we think it's worth buying. In fact, I assert that it's impossible to review anything without giving your opinion about it. Good gameplay and storyline and graphics are subjective measurements, not objective ones.
At the end of the day, the question is whether a game is fun.
Wait, isn't having a pre-disposed opinion a pretty big bias? Also, all you have to do to review a game without putting in you opinion is to just cover the facts, back them up and then just leave it up to the viewer to decide what they think of the game given all the facts about it.
Isn't a review basically someone's personal opinion on something? If you take out personal views, all you're left with are stats like number of levels, screenshots, etc.
It sounds like you'd be happier with reading the back of the game box (like you said), or reading the wikipedia entry. There's nothing wrong with that, but asking all reviewers to remove their opinions from their reviews is kind of a lot to ask for.
Bias is integral to reviews, the challenge is to disclose it when it exists.

I'm not comparing your reviews to other reviews. I'm saying reviews in general where the reviewer adds in their own personal opinion about the game is worthless, and it ruins the gaming industry.
Now, if game reviewers were to discuss the game, like, how the camera works without say "it sux"... or discussing the combat system without saying "rite stix combatt = FAIL!!!"... or "after 10 YEARS of develeopment the could have done better"...
I don't know how much free time you have but see if you can't pick up a copy and actually put some time into it and try the different classes. Try different armor variations and different status effects. If you can do that and then you still give it a bad review after putting enough time into it to know, because this game is one of those where you can;t get a good feel of the game play in the first hour or two.
Unfortunately our free time is limited, so trying to give impressions of five new games a week as a hobby when we have full time jobs tends to limit the amount of time we can spend in any one game. If that game is difficult to get into and has a slow and painful start, then it will usually fall to the wayside like Too Human did.
Like Tobin mentioned earlier, does really make sense to continue eating a rotten apple to see if the core is good? Sometimes it is (See fallout 3), but that's rare.
A bad game is different from a rotten apple, if it were that simple nobody would've been anticipating Haze or Lair. Also, if you take one bite and don't like it, labeling it as rotten is a bod idea. If you drink one beer and aren't wasted off your ass, are you going to label drinking as bad and unenjoyable?
I play games to have fun. If I'm not having fun, I stop playing the game, I don't feel I should have to work to find the fun. If you're different, then that's good for you, everyone enjoys games in a different way. Everyone that enjoys our show knows our style. I'm kind of done discussing this, I feel like we're repeating ourselves now. We didn't like Too Human, and a lot of other people did. That's just the way it is.

This is assuming that all of the viewers are adults, or at least mature enough to make that connection. You're also assuming that reviews don't tell people to have certain opinions. You've even said things like, "RE5 isn't racist" which isn't a statement that makes itself look like it's open for debate. If you tell someone something is true or something is factual without reminding them that you just tend to talk that way and that it's not true, the people often fail to make such connections.
You'll say, well if you don't agree with our show don't watch it... which I didn't it. I agree everyone is entitled to their opinions. What I think is that in this day in age, everyone thinks they're entitled to have their opinion brodcasted on the internet where it can influence others opinions.
If you want to discuss what does and does not effect the gaming industry... game reviewers, independent or not, ruin the personal experience people used to get from games.

I completely disagree with your assertion that there's anything wrong with game reviews. Our viewers ultimately make their own decisions, but they learn over time if they agree with us. Often we've had people tell us "Oh, I wish I'd listened to you about Heavenly Sword", etc, etc. Just like talking to your friends about movies, you find reviewers that share your taste, and that's a valuable resource.
The crux of your argument seems to lie in comparing our style of reviews to established gaming "journalism" where the expectation is that reviewers finish all games they review.
Our point with NooBTooB is to play a game enough to get a decent idea on the gameplay, and give our basic feeling of the game. We'll disclose how long we play and most folks take that into consideration when they hear our impressions.
I understand this tends to surprise new viewers, especially when their first episode is one where we give a negative review of a game they like. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that.
One suggestion I have for folks is to check out any of our other episodes where we give a thumbs up to a game they like and see if they have the same criticisms.
Now, I'm certaninly not saying, you have to play that much to fully enjoy or understand the game, but playing more than the demo helps... playing more than one class of character helps.
I can assure you, "wading into 8000+ enemies and rotating the stick in a circle" rarely works, given the amount of variations of enemies, their immunities, and their status effects the can inflict on you.
Basically, you're getting alot of anger from people who have taken the time to understand the game...
Long gone are the days where people go out and purchase a game because they saw an interesting advertisement for it, or their friend said it was great.
I went to gamestop one day looking for a new game. I don't buy into the "job" that people like you two provide... so when I go get a game, I stand in the store and read the box the game comes in. That's how I decide to purchase a game. I found this one, and have gotten more enjoyment (2500+ hours of game play) than I could have asked for.

From what you said at 4:19 and 5:01 it's obvious that you barely played the game at all. This game takes some getting used to. Why is that the majority of gamers decide something is crap if it takes some getting used to or is new and different?
Mostly due to lack of patience. There's something to be said about a game that is easy to get into yet still keeps up the quality throughout the entire experience.
At the same time, a game that takes a lot of effort to get into, but eventually rewards the patient with good gameplay have a number of examples out there.
Unfortunately, it's not easy to tell the difference between a shitty game that turns good, and one that stays crappy, so I'd place my bets on games that are easier to get into.

Your show's an hour long dude, how do you know that the reason that they're being uncivil is because of something you said, did or suggested in that time-frame? You do this weekly as well; you aren't going to remember everything you said that could set off a person.
I'm not sure I understand your point. What I'm saying is that there's never an excuse for the homophobic, hateful ad hominem comments people are leaving. If you look at other videos, you'll see many instances of people saying "I disagree with you saying X for reason Y", like a civilized adult. That's the correct way to have arguments.
If you piss someone off enough, they stop act like a civilized adult. If someone punched your wife in the face, you would probably start spewing similar illogical babble. If you said something fairly offensive to someone without realizing it, you could spark that sort of thing. It's also easier to trigger with certain people. I once had a French teacher who had to be sent home because she attacked a kid who mixed up Swedish and Swiss. A similar thing could happen, only non-physical.

One thing I really wish they would have had in this Ratchet was once you beat any Ratchet you can go into Challenge Mode and play the game again with all your weapons and your health. I bought R&C Quest for Booty yesterday in a store in Denmark. Great game for the price I gues.. But some of the puzzels where rather lame (and I've played all R&C games for ps2 and ps3). The planets are really beautifully made which I think is the best thing in this game. If you played R&C 1, then you've might remember tower-like-thing you need to climb in Metropolis? something like those towers are in this game also :-)
I recomend the game, but don't have high expectrations! Crack in Time ftw!

I hope you finished Uncharted. I never play on my Ps3, but the time I put in Uncharted I played through it in one afternoon with my girlfriend next to me watching and finished it in about 7-8 hours and had a blast.
The funniest cutscenes I've seen in years. That one where Drake hits the wall with his face "I So did not see that coming!" cracked me up so hard.
And now I can't wait for the second one. And I only played LBP and a few download games since then. PS3 is just a dvd/blue-ray player
I have actually never played a ratchet game. ever. I played all the jak games and loved them (part from jak x, didnt even try it looked way to shitty). listening to your review would you recomend any of them to me?

It sounds like you didn't really play the game. In the beginning set to smart mode, then at higher levels set a color and that color and all lower colors are salvaged.
You can go through pretty quickly the first time. Then it get harder the next times, and the teleport menue will let you walk through chapters with new more powerful enemies. If you're just jumping in the middle of a group and spinning the lever then try some of the teleport chapters. You find strategy is a big part.
One thing always made me wonder when they released a new R&C game. Why don't they include the wepons from the ealier games? I know a lot of the wepons are almost the same (in all the games there's a bomb-thrower-thing, pisol-gun etc.) but there's also wepons like the sniperriffle or the "visi-bom" from R&C1 and R&2 which they didnt include in the other games.. WHY NOT?!
Another thing. Why not make an challenge-level which actually is hard..

Our show is all about our opinions about games. We tell you whether or not we think it's worth buying. In fact, I assert that it's impossible to review anything without giving your opinion about it. Good gameplay and storyline and graphics are subjective measurements, not objective ones.
At the end of the day, the question is whether a game is fun.

Wait, isn't having a pre-disposed opinion a pretty big bias? Also, all you have to do to review a game without putting in you opinion is to just cover the facts, back them up and then just leave it up to the viewer to decide what they think of the game given all the facts about it.

Isn't a review basically someone's personal opinion on something? If you take out personal views, all you're left with are stats like number of levels, screenshots, etc.
It sounds like you'd be happier with reading the back of the game box (like you said), or reading the wikipedia entry. There's nothing wrong with that, but asking all reviewers to remove their opinions from their reviews is kind of a lot to ask for.
Bias is integral to reviews, the challenge is to disclose it when it exists.

See, that's what I'm saying. You don't understand why people come and post angry "ur the gayz" comments when you trash talk a game they enjoy. It's like saying, I can talk smack about this game but it's not ok for people to talk smack back to us when they disagree.
Granted, it's immature either way you slice it.
I enjoy getting the bare bones information about a game, so I'm able to make my own conclusion about a game. Someone's opinion is bound to have some impact on your desicion.

It's pretty obvious that the posters who are leaving angry comments are doing so because somehow their feelings are hurt that someone is talking badly about a game they love.
The point I'm trying to make is that people shouldn't criticism of games they like so seriously. If I say I'm not a big fan of strawberry ice cream, I don't have crazy strawberry ice cream fanboys calling me a fag on the internet. Most folks are like, "oh, I guess he's just into rocky road".

Don't underestimate the power of fanboys. I know people who will attack you for saying, "speed is way better than crack!" I know replacing drugs with Too Human doesn't make it any more or less stupid, but I'm just saying that people do crazy shit when angry. (Now that I made that drug metaphor, I can't get the picture of people trying to smoke a copy of Too Human out of my head...)

Well, you seem like a smart fellow, so I'm sure that you know that when you insult a game... the fanboys of said game view it as a personal attack against them, so what makes you think they won't attack you personally? You may not be calling them "teh gayz", but in more or less words, you're saying it about their game.

I'm not comparing your reviews to other reviews. I'm saying reviews in general where the reviewer adds in their own personal opinion about the game is worthless, and it ruins the gaming industry.
Now, if game reviewers were to discuss the game, like, how the camera works without say "it sux"... or discussing the combat system without saying "rite stix combatt = FAIL!!!"... or "after 10 YEARS of develeopment the could have done better"...

I don't know how much free time you have but see if you can't pick up a copy and actually put some time into it and try the different classes. Try different armor variations and different status effects. If you can do that and then you still give it a bad review after putting enough time into it to know, because this game is one of those where you can;t get a good feel of the game play in the first hour or two.

Unfortunately our free time is limited, so trying to give impressions of five new games a week as a hobby when we have full time jobs tends to limit the amount of time we can spend in any one game. If that game is difficult to get into and has a slow and painful start, then it will usually fall to the wayside like Too Human did.
Like Tobin mentioned earlier, does really make sense to continue eating a rotten apple to see if the core is good? Sometimes it is (See fallout 3), but that's rare.

A bad game is different from a rotten apple, if it were that simple nobody would've been anticipating Haze or Lair. Also, if you take one bite and don't like it, labeling it as rotten is a bod idea. If you drink one beer and aren't wasted off your ass, are you going to label drinking as bad and unenjoyable?

I play games to have fun. If I'm not having fun, I stop playing the game, I don't feel I should have to work to find the fun. If you're different, then that's good for you, everyone enjoys games in a different way. Everyone that enjoys our show knows our style. I'm kind of done discussing this, I feel like we're repeating ourselves now. We didn't like Too Human, and a lot of other people did. That's just the way it is.

This is assuming that all of the viewers are adults, or at least mature enough to make that connection. You're also assuming that reviews don't tell people to have certain opinions. You've even said things like, "RE5 isn't racist" which isn't a statement that makes itself look like it's open for debate. If you tell someone something is true or something is factual without reminding them that you just tend to talk that way and that it's not true, the people often fail to make such connections.

You'll say, well if you don't agree with our show don't watch it... which I didn't it. I agree everyone is entitled to their opinions. What I think is that in this day in age, everyone thinks they're entitled to have their opinion brodcasted on the internet where it can influence others opinions.
If you want to discuss what does and does not effect the gaming industry... game reviewers, independent or not, ruin the personal experience people used to get from games.

I completely disagree with your assertion that there's anything wrong with game reviews. Our viewers ultimately make their own decisions, but they learn over time if they agree with us. Often we've had people tell us "Oh, I wish I'd listened to you about Heavenly Sword", etc, etc. Just like talking to your friends about movies, you find reviewers that share your taste, and that's a valuable resource.

The crux of your argument seems to lie in comparing our style of reviews to established gaming "journalism" where the expectation is that reviewers finish all games they review.
Our point with NooBTooB is to play a game enough to get a decent idea on the gameplay, and give our basic feeling of the game. We'll disclose how long we play and most folks take that into consideration when they hear our impressions.

I understand this tends to surprise new viewers, especially when their first episode is one where we give a negative review of a game they like. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that.
One suggestion I have for folks is to check out any of our other episodes where we give a thumbs up to a game they like and see if they have the same criticisms.

Now, I'm certaninly not saying, you have to play that much to fully enjoy or understand the game, but playing more than the demo helps... playing more than one class of character helps.
I can assure you, "wading into 8000+ enemies and rotating the stick in a circle" rarely works, given the amount of variations of enemies, their immunities, and their status effects the can inflict on you.
Basically, you're getting alot of anger from people who have taken the time to understand the game...

Long gone are the days where people go out and purchase a game because they saw an interesting advertisement for it, or their friend said it was great.
I went to gamestop one day looking for a new game. I don't buy into the "job" that people like you two provide... so when I go get a game, I stand in the store and read the box the game comes in. That's how I decide to purchase a game. I found this one, and have gotten more enjoyment (2500+ hours of game play) than I could have asked for.

Mostly due to lack of patience. There's something to be said about a game that is easy to get into yet still keeps up the quality throughout the entire experience.
At the same time, a game that takes a lot of effort to get into, but eventually rewards the patient with good gameplay have a number of examples out there.
Unfortunately, it's not easy to tell the difference between a shitty game that turns good, and one that stays crappy, so I'd place my bets on games that are easier to get into.

They're banning you because of a lack of a coherent argument. Maybe you could come up with a legitimate opposing argument rather than claiming that they're little girls. (Plus, as they are men in their 30s, that statement couldn't be any more false.) It's not too hard to argue that the Too Human review is bad, and random insults that are fairly easy to debunk aren't a good way to go about that.

If you piss someone off enough, they stop act like a civilized adult. If someone punched your wife in the face, you would probably start spewing similar illogical babble. If you said something fairly offensive to someone without realizing it, you could spark that sort of thing. It's also easier to trigger with certain people. I once had a French teacher who had to be sent home because she attacked a kid who mixed up Swedish and Swiss. A similar thing could happen, only non-physical.

Having an opinion that's different than your own about a video game shouldn't garner the homophobic, overblown reaction that we see in these comments.
Remember folks, these are about _games_. You don't see folks call people a fag that because they reviewed a movie or book as not very good. This is a big problem in the industry that needs to be fixed.

You know, I have read and heard some reviews against Too Human, very few of them good. I can say they put more thought into their criticism than these guys did. I am pretty sure they just played the demo and never tried more than one class of character.

One thing I really wish they would have had in this Ratchet was once you beat any Ratchet you can go into Challenge Mode and play the game again with all your weapons and your health. I bought R&C Quest for Booty yesterday in a store in Denmark. Great game for the price I gues.. But some of the puzzels where rather lame (and I've played all R&C games for ps2 and ps3). The planets are really beautifully made which I think is the best thing in this game. If you played R&C 1, then you've might remember tower-like-thing you need to climb in Metropolis? something like those towers are in this game also :-)
I recomend the game, but don't have high expectrations! Crack in Time ftw!

I hope you finished Uncharted. I never play on my Ps3, but the time I put in Uncharted I played through it in one afternoon with my girlfriend next to me watching and finished it in about 7-8 hours and had a blast.
The funniest cutscenes I've seen in years. That one where Drake hits the wall with his face "I So did not see that coming!" cracked me up so hard.
And now I can't wait for the second one. And I only played LBP and a few download games since then. PS3 is just a dvd/blue-ray player

It sounds like you didn't really play the game. In the beginning set to smart mode, then at higher levels set a color and that color and all lower colors are salvaged.
You can go through pretty quickly the first time. Then it get harder the next times, and the teleport menue will let you walk through chapters with new more powerful enemies. If you're just jumping in the middle of a group and spinning the lever then try some of the teleport chapters. You find strategy is a big part.

One thing always made me wonder when they released a new R&C game. Why don't they include the wepons from the ealier games? I know a lot of the wepons are almost the same (in all the games there's a bomb-thrower-thing, pisol-gun etc.) but there's also wepons like the sniperriffle or the "visi-bom" from R&C1 and R&2 which they didnt include in the other games.. WHY NOT?!
Another thing. Why not make an challenge-level which actually is hard..

I would say, ToD was hard without the ryno, but easier than Q4B, Hard mode on Q4B was hard :P
