  • BRAVISSIMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 'Very poor trills' were NEVER COMMON, or even occasional, in the golden age of singing; they became standard only after singing died completely. I cannot imagine what 'the never sung high C' refers to, since the role of Azucena HAS no high Cs written and the great sopranos and mezzos of the past all sang ravishing high Cs constantly (unlike the catfight screeches which are all that are ever heard now). Minghini-Cattaneo was a great mezzo in a great period, in no way comparable to this one. LOL

  • Maravillosa.

Sin duda es un tesoro escuchar en estos tiempos su voz a través de éste medio, una gran Soprano antes de la Segunda Guerra.

  • Unsung trills, or very poor ones, was COMMON even in those early "golden age of opera singing." As was the never sung High C. By this point, it was common to hear trills only in sopranos, and coloraturas at that. Even the trills in Brunhilde's war cry were seldom sung (and are still seldom sung). People just let it slide, and the reason is usually they had no clue why Verdi wrote those trills (to imitate the fire of the pior). Even today, many great mezzos still don't sing the trills.

  • I'd have thought a Mezzo of her generation would have been able to sing the trills, but she just skips every single one. Very pretty tone though.

  • you're right in any way...anyway, just hear the music and stare on the image with a smile :)

  • Irene Minghini-Cattaneo had a great mezzo-voice and I'm glad that you posted this video. Thanks a lot.

But the picture shows Sigrid Onégin.
