@soapbxprod thanks for the confirmation,i have her autograph on a few things, and funnily enough,i wrote to a actor called rex downing a few weeks ago,and today got my wuthering heights 1939 photos back signed by him,he played the young heathcliff, and is the only living actor still alive from that production, miss oberon was wonderfull in it:O)and that made me google her name, and find your wonderfull footage of her
Thank you for uploading these clips. The videos are absolutely fascinating! No bodyguards or cellphones in site - just a group of co-workers and friends having a great time. It all seems so different from what we see today, and the fact that there's no sound only adds to their appeal. Also, I don't know who Ed Rosenthal was, or what became of him, but my, what a handsome guy! He must have been in Roddy's life for at least a little while to be at such ease with all of these big stars.
@ConcentusMG You are so welcome! Don't you love it? No artifice! Have you seen the clip of Julie Andrews walking on the beach with naked daughter Emma? It's so sweet! Could you imagine something like that today?
@windstorm1000 He was the most loved guy in town- bar none! It was an honor to have known him. They're drinking screw top wine from a JUG! And Budweiser! LOL!
@soapbxprod must have been a relief from all those fancy parties!! Proves you don't have to have a lot of money for people to have fun---conversation an guests are the important part. I think I'm going to have parties like this.
@windstorm1000 Think about it- Sunday was their ONLY day off! And what did they decide to do? Hang out like middle class folk were doing on Fire Island! LOL!
@soapbxprod I was just going to email you about this--They are enjoying themselves to the limit, cuz those who are working here had to be at the studio at 7am Mon. morn. for hair and makeup. If any of you folks think being a movie/tv star is glamourous--that is only half the story. They really did work like mules--so Roddy's parties must have been a god send. I mean who wants to go to a party and have to dress up (though they did) when you just want to relax on your day off?
@JRobbySh I. No, it just occured to me that most of these faces no longer mean anything to most people. Actors often don't resemble their screen selves. Sometimes for the better. A colleague of mine told me that he was once an extra on a Marilyn Monroe set and had chatted with her. He happened to recognize her in a grocery store incognito. Their eyes met but before he could speak, she put her finger to her lips and winked. So he said, Hi Norma and just passed on. No one else got it.
@windstorm1000 Yes! We most certainly will. These clips are only selected "rushes"- if you look at the Tags list on each clip, we have included as many names as possible. Also, if you'd like to see what we're planning to do with them, please search our YouTube channel page for "Hollywood 1965"- its an 8 minute fundraising assembly with music and narration, as well as interviews with Roddy and Kirk Douglas. Hope that you like it.
Gadzooks! What fabulous footage! Who wouldn't have loved to live next door to this Malibu beach house & peek over the wall & see all the stars! I bet James Fox is there because he was filming Otto Preminger's "Hurry Sundown" with Jane Fonda at the time. Ah....those Swingin Sixties! MANY thanks for sharing with us, Luke & Carole !!! :-)
@JubalCalif Just might be- but since it was the Summer of 1965, I think that Jane and James were working on Authur Penn's The Chase (by Horton Foote and adapted by Lillian Hellman) with Brando and Redford and Janice Rule- she had just finished Cat Ballou- and James Fox was a regular guest at Roddy's, along with the entire British Hollywood contingent!
Right! I had forgotten about "The Chase"! Man alive, you sure know your 60's flicks! I'm impressed! I always liked those Fox brothers, James & Edward...gifted thespians to be sure!
Though both I think are very good actors, I must admit sometimes I get them confused & forget which one appeared in which movie (for example, Losey's "The Servant" or the Merchant-Ivory production "Remains of the Day"). I saw "Day of the Jackal' as a teen at a local theater when it first came out. Wonderful thriller! And I know one of them left acting for a time to become an evangelical Christian missionary. THANKS for so much wonderful info & cool clips !!!
I used to love to read Dominick Dunne's articles in Vanity Fair. He would often write about the endless Hollywood parties he would attend and his celebrity friends who would be there. I see from this clip he had a movie camera also. I can't imagine how great those would be also. And I wonder if the little girl on his lap was his late daughter Dominique? She would have been around that age. Thanks again for these. I'm obsessed!
Thanks...no, I sure didn't know you were related to Abner and Herbert Biberman! What an incredible body of work your grandfather has! I haven't looked up your great uncle yet.
Small world. I see that your grandfather was a Flight Instructor in WW II. So was my Dad! He was slightly overage for the Service but was a Civilian Pilot when war broke out, so he was an Instructor *and* flew many thousands of hours in the Ferry Command...just getting planes over to our Allies!
@CHWarwick Herbert was one of the blacklisted Hollywood 10! Abner and he did not get along- after Stalin signed the nonagression pact with Hitler! LOL! Love that your Dad was also an instructor... will never forget flying with Abner out of Santa Monica Airport to Tijuana for the weekend in March 1968! What a wild ride! At NIGHT, in a Piper Aztec! Direct email is soapbxprod@aol.com! Love you! Luke Sacher (my father's stepfather's last name- he was Harry Sacher- John Garfield's attorney)
@CHWarwick If you did not know- I am the grandson of Abner Biberman and grand nephew of Herbert Biberman. Lauren knew both of them personally. Please google or iMDB them.
Thank you for sharing these videos. It amazes me how celebrity parties back then looked so simple. People genuinely having fun and enjoying each other's company.
jane fonda was immensely beautiful. all of them were. looking at these videos, it seems very clear to me that merle oberon had some south asian blood in her.

If that party happened in 1965, Merle Oberon would be 54 years old. She was born in 1911.
