  • Great race guys. I have a wrx so im partial to subies but cobras are amazing. Kinda went how i thought it would subie jump out and then cobra reel him in and start pulling.

  • What kind of supporting mods are on the STI and what kind of power are you putting out on what dyno?

  • you cant have a better driver in the STI i mean WTF im a subaru guy and that sti driver seemed to know what he was doing, now the only reason why that sti will lose on topend past 100-110mph is because of the gearing that subaru used from 04-06, if it had a 07+sti transmission, it would've pulled at least another full car and held it to the end, the drop of rpm from 4th to 5th is huge compared from 1-4, the 07gearing has 2,3,4 gear longer to fix this problem, either way that cobra is fast!

  • @Disaster646 your exactly right! This guy was shifting and driving perfect from what i seen, if he had the longer gears of an 07 tranny he would have def pulled away, Cobras are no joke though, I know I wont mess with one in my wrx thats for sure lolol but thats what I have my Roush 440A for

  • Watch both races. Sti edged the Cobra out because it spun, and yes the Sti fell on its face in 5th. Either way, the Cobra came out on top. Sti didnt want to race from a DIG.

  • STi won... Go from a dig cobra!! After STi hits fifth race is over, the gearing sucks in STi's until 07.

  • 5th gear on 06 and earlier STi's sucks.

  • @jurbach519 its not 5th gear that sucks, is 2,3,4 gear in the 04-06 sti trannys, 1,5,6 are the same on the 07+, trust me, i had a 06sti tranny and got rid of it for a 07tranny for my 450whp wrx, i was tired of shifting mad fast to stay on top and 4th gear was so short(100mph by 7k) that wasnt properly spaced out for 5th, with the 07 you can hit 130mph in 4th if u rev out around 8k and by 7k you get around 117-120, which not perfect for highway racing but a much better improvement for top end

    For rolling on a highway all STi's gears are too short with the newer models being slightly better than the older models. In the video as soon as he goes into 5th gear the power drops too low out of the powerband and the Cobra pulls away. See for yourself. I have owned 2 STi's.

  • @jurbach519 yea if he had a 07+ sti gear ratios he would've pulled more on the cobra, like i said its not 5th gear, is 4th being too short, idk if in your previous sti's you had or driven a 07+sti, the difference that 3, 4 gear makes is a lot, not slightly but a lot, still not better than a 5spd ratio transmission for top end racing, i remember when i had my 5spd in my wrx i used to walk sti's even when i had an extra person or 2 to equal weight out, n around same whp same with trap speed

    Do you not see that when he shifts into 5th gear in the video he immediately looses ground? I own and drive an 07 right now. Yes, it is a big difference from previous years in 3rd and 4th gear, but 5th is the killer in older model STi's as can be seen in this video. When you go from 4th to 5th in an 07+ STi it puts you right back into peak torque. The 5 speed in the WRX allows you to not shift as often so you don't have to spend time changing gears where you otherwise would be.

  • @jurbach519 like i said i have a 450whp wrx and been looking for the perfect or more suitable gear ratios that can handle the power, and like i've been saying 5th gear in the 04sti to 2011 sti is the same, 1st(3.636)(5th-0.971)6th(0.756­) but 2nd went from(2.375)to(2.235) 3rd from1.761 to1.521 and finally 4th from 1.346 to1.137on all 07+ STIs, now the reason why when u go from 4th to 5th in the 07 and you dont feel that gap is because 4th gear is longer not 5th, 5th is the same as all the others

    Oh, I gottcha. They made 3rd and 4th wider so that when you went into 5th you were right in the power. I thought it was that 5th was just way too tall.

  • @jurbach519 yes, idk why they made such a bullet proof tranny with some gay gear ratios, im sure they were thinking too much about rally at the moment, cuz when you use the stock turbo around 300whp, the short gears pull pretty good, but when u add a bigger turbo and get a lil more turbo lag, the short gears really kills the sti, Race a fpgreen wrx vs a fpgreen sti, and the wrx will walk it, with the 07 tranny it could be a much closer race, but the wrx tranny is basura!..lol they really break

  • @JaYzWrExX Do you know the car? How much boost is it running? I thought with a big turbo and fuel an STI could beat a simple bolt-on Cobra.

  • @svt11111 Well said lol. Cobra with $1200 spanks STi with over 10k in parts 6 ways to sunday. And looks/sounds way better.

  • @f34rthe4banger that cobra seems stock too. Everybody else has to mod their cars and sink 5k minimum into them, or buy like a 100k$ supercar to mess with what the 03-04 cobras came out doing.

  • @emgpickups1990 Id say the foxbody 5.0, Ls1 camaro/ws6, 03/04 cobra, and honda crx are all monsters in the drag world for what you pay. The crx only because you can buy one for under 1k and spend 20k in parts and it weighs nothing. Ugliest thing in the world, but fast if built right. My buddy had a 94 civic hatch that spanked everything around here till it finally died. Over 600hp and it weighed 2100lbs.

  • @emgpickups1990 i dont know about this, you can buy a c6 z06 and leave this cobra so far behind that it will look like a stock v6 mustang,same goes if you buy a super car like you said, a 2012 gtr which is not over the 100k price range, and it will destroy the cobra in every race, roll, dig, turns, even parked at a mall, all you need is 400awd whp to beat a modified cobra, this guy i know has 650whp and only traps 98mph in the 1/8mile and i have 400 and trap 96mph either way i lose to a car wow!

  • @Disaster646 Cobras downfall is traction, when you get them to hook up, they are gone. You can get an impeccable cobra for 40k, tops, when a GTR is 85k and up. I do love the GTR, a TT-V6 busting 0-60 in 3.4ish. I despise corvettes, everyone seems to have one. Around here, you never see a 03-04 cobra, GT's are a dime a dozen, but Cobras are scarce, and I respect them. If that guy only is getting 98mph in the 1/8 with 650RWHP, he needs some tires worth shit or somthing, you shouldnt be near him.

  • @Disaster646 the cobra only trapped 98 in the 1/8th because Im sure he spun all the way, Have u ever rode inside a Kennebell or Whipple Cobra? They are nasty! They smoke GTR's all damn day and no a C6Z06 will not make one look like a v6 mustang, a stock c6z06 wont beat a Kennebell Cobra, theres plenty of videos on here to prove that
