Yes, scientists have been able to figure out climatic conditions of the past. Read some of the reports of NAS or AAAS. These are two of the most credible scientific organizations in the world. What they say is more valid than anything else. Don't base your opinion on Al Gore. Read some material that scientists have produced. You'll find overwhelming evidence that global climate change is real, and that we are causing it.

In addition, in many studies where ag staples were subjected to higher levels of CO2 they required less irrigation and crop yields increased. We've also been subjected to much higher levels of CO2 in the past, long before the Industrial Revolution.

It's the fact that CO2 is reflecting more of the sun's radiation back into our atmosphere and causing temperatures of land, sea and air to increase at an unimaginable rate with respect to geological time. CO2 is a small component, we're not going to suffocate, but it's a very potent atmospheric agent.

First of all, there is a lot more to the Earth than the just the United States. More importantly, the sat data is systemically flawed. The scientists did not calibrate their measuring instruments to take account of friction, even if the sats were 800km up! So they slowed, reducing their period and altitude. The height was unfortunatly an important value needed in their calcs. Because the period had slowed over many years, when they thought they were measuring at say noon, they measured at night!
The U.S. was the greatest emitter of CO2 until this year, the fact that it cooled from 98-07 does say something. Point me to this information of "flawed" satellite readings. They are certainly more reliable than terrestrial instruments that can be influenced by the Urban Heat Island Effect. NASA already had to renege on some of their data that had several years in the 90s as the hottest ever. Those were displaced by several years in the 30s.
The US is predominantly in a temperate zone, precisely where temperature change is least noticeable. The fact that arctic and antarctc regions are melting NOW, should be physical evidence enough. Data can be skewed, believe in the hockey stick, you don't, it's a sticking point. Some (very few) glaciers are growing, the environment is highly complex! There is more kinetic energy in the atmosphere, I can vouch for that in recent weather events, not just the data which, from where I stand, agrees.
I still don't see any information on those "skewed" satellite readings. If temp. change is least noticeable in the U.S. (a major emitter of CO2) then you've just undercut your own argument.
And no, the ice melt in Greenland, the Arctic and Antarctic is not reaching "the sky is falling" levels.

If you think Al Gore is scary, watch the lectures by Stephen Schneider, V.Ramanathan, Richard Somerville, John Holdren, all are teaching climate research scientists. It shows that climate is ALWAYS in flux- why, when the Inuit moved into the area they occupy now, it was about 7 degrees WARMER than it is today!

Rising temps are from solar flares not CO2! correlations in CO2 levels and temperature have nothing to do with global warming. CO2 levels follow rising temps 800 years later from the ocean heating up and releasing more CO2. Gore didn't let you know that one!

CO2 isn't a problem to the earth or the biosphere as a whole. It's only a problem to us and our settlements. The primordial earth had a CO2-rich and O2-poor atmosphere, yet still earth and life continued to exist.
But you know what? Those cyanobacteria that gobbled up the CO2 and spewed out O2, those are now gone, killed by their own pollution. I'd prefer the same *not* happening again too soon.

Yes, scientists have been able to figure out climatic conditions of the past. Read some of the reports of NAS or AAAS. These are two of the most credible scientific organizations in the world. What they say is more valid than anything else. Don't base your opinion on Al Gore. Read some material that scientists have produced. You'll find overwhelming evidence that global climate change is real, and that we are causing it.

Yes, a hole in the Ozone layer... To bad that is a completely separate and unrelated issue to do with synthetic CFCs escaping into the atmosphere and was subsequently fixed through a combined global effort in banning the substance in refrigerators and what not. It showed how MUCH of an influence we have on the atmosphere and how we could fix it... oh and break it.
If only we were united enough to fix the CO2 problem. But I guess it's too late for that now.

Actually Ballistic, there is no "problem" with CO2 unless you don't like people breathing so much, man's actual contribution to all the carbon in earth's atmosphere is small. In addition, in many studies where ag staples were subjected to higher levels of CO2 they required less irrigation and crop yields increased. We've also been subjected to much higher levels of CO2 in the past, long before the Industrial Revolution.

Yes, I agree, plants love CO2, they need it for photosynthesis, just as we need oxygen for aerobic respiration. Those studies are probably true. But! That's not the problem that CO2 is causing! It's the fact that CO2 is reflecting more of the sun's radiation back into our atmosphere and causing temperatures of land, sea and air to increase at an unimaginable rate with respect to geological time. CO2 is a small component, we're not going to suffocate, but it's a very potent atmospheric agent.

First of all, there is a lot more to the Earth than the just the United States. More importantly, the sat data is systemically flawed. The scientists did not calibrate their measuring instruments to take account of friction, even if the sats were 800km up! So they slowed, reducing their period and altitude. The height was unfortunatly an important value needed in their calcs. Because the period had slowed over many years, when they thought they were measuring at say noon, they measured at night!

The U.S. was the greatest emitter of CO2 until this year, the fact that it cooled from 98-07 does say something. Point me to this information of "flawed" satellite readings. They are certainly more reliable than terrestrial instruments that can be influenced by the Urban Heat Island Effect. NASA already had to renege on some of their data that had several years in the 90s as the hottest ever. Those were displaced by several years in the 30s.

The US is predominantly in a temperate zone, precisely where temperature change is least noticeable. The fact that arctic and antarctc regions are melting NOW, should be physical evidence enough. Data can be skewed, believe in the hockey stick, you don't, it's a sticking point. Some (very few) glaciers are growing, the environment is highly complex! There is more kinetic energy in the atmosphere, I can vouch for that in recent weather events, not just the data which, from where I stand, agrees.

I'd love to be wrong, but we can see effects now, and all the data (and I see a lot of data) all shows warming in the latter 20th C. The warming is cyclical and natural, and it will cool again, as it has for centuries.
The cause is obvious and documented: Sun spots, which are already documented as cyclical.

co2 levels rise and fall naturally with the magnetic cycle of our planet. the magnetic field around our planet reflects energy from the sun, so when it die outs and the poles switch, more heat gets through. melting ice releases co2, which deteriorates the ozone layer. this has happened before. however, deforestation and combustion already have co2 levels at an all time high. now, as always, the magnetic field around earth is fading. this will lead to large atmospheric changes and climate shifts.

Actually Bass, ice melt has and always will occur, it ebbs and flows in a natural cycle. For example, the current rate of ice melt on the Greenland Ice Sheet is 0.4 percent per century. Not much melting going on there.
