Driving a 10-speed, even for someone who has never driven a manual transmission vehicle, is easy as chewing gum. Yes, it took me a few days to get the downshifting, but once I did, good gravy was it easy. I'm eager to learn how to downshift 13, 15, and 18-speeds now...lol!
are these syncrho boxes. My father drives big rigs, but he nver tells me if theyre synchro or not. he says its harder to grind gears on a regular car than on a big rig.
@jvanegas14 no they are are not synchronized like a car a car you have to use the clutch to shift in order to not ruing the tranny a semi you have to use the throttle to bump the RPM's up or break to lower rpm's to shift the gears in simpler terms you have to match the engine speed to the tranny speed to shift which makes it a lot easier to shift with out the clutch a car matches the engine speed and tranny speed for you when you push the clutch
@stubzDOTmpeg thats interesting cause i seen trucks that have exactly the same body style as the ram.. and has the same cummins but are sterling brand... i never knew that
Somebody put a 10 speed shift pattern plate in an Estes truck that was a 9 speed. My first day I had no idea they had screwed it up and every time I went to hit 6th gear the truck would lurch forward because it was actually "high low", what they call the funny gear (its not even used)......Im a very experienced driver so it didnt take me long to figure it out, but it would be pretty funny to see a rookie driver trying to figure it out.
@cartuner555 its the low/high range switch. On the tens you shift 1 through 5 flick it up and go back to first gear's position and go through the same positions to 10. And 13 and 18 speeds have splitter buttons on the side of the sticks for splitting gears. 13s will have red buttons and 18s have grey ones.
Nice drivin, & I'm not tryin to knock ya down as this's not my intentions er anything like that, but I do not like Detroits of any kind. I do not like 10 speeds "trannys". To me they're just weak. Not enuff gears to shift. I do not like "autos" either. Be safe out there.
@NinjaTurtleMofo i just got my cdl in september and im having a hell of a time finding a job cause i have no exp but i have an interview monday so will se how that goes
overspeed your clutch??what r u talking about, skiping few gears is fine,i do it whole my life and never fuck up my clutch.clutch have a nothing do with skiping gears.in 5 speed normal car is no problem go 1,2 and 5 or 1,3 and 5. but if u want put into 5 gear u need minimum 60 km/h.
@Steveo451 I only use the clutch to get started and I would be willing to bet you're fatter than me. My decision to not burn out my clutch unnecessarily does not make me fat or lazy. I used to use the clutch for the first 2 years. Burned out several of them. Now that I don't use it I haven't burned out any. I think I prefer to pocket the money saved.
me i like using the clutch, feather is for those fat lazy driver that dont like to do anything but get fatter, i noticed in the video lack of a pronounced slab of greasy fat, prob because you use the clutch good for you.
@steveo451 thats funny except, i think your classified as a fat lazy ass just being a truck driver and what people dont know is its actually hard as shit. expeacially if u hauling flat bed and somthing fucks up.
@TheZoelzer2 i know its hard why i cant understand why people take the easy way is king. do little extra pays off is all im sayin for too many lardos.
your very smooth, since your floating just out of curiosity whats the prime RPM for entering a high range gear? 1300-1500? I mean with your type of engine/tractor
@DanW900 have you ever drove a heavy truck with air discs in them?? just curious, one our fire engines is an 83 mack with them and when you hit the brakes they grab and will send you thru the wind shield if you hit em hard enough. not saying their bad, just touchy.
i know in school they tell you not to coast. but i love coasting. you run local for a freight carrier like me you will learn to coast. bump braking to get out of a high RPM gear.
you dont need to push the clutch in no more after you take off, and if you are sitting on a downhill and lazy like me, you can let it roll forward without the clutch and then grab your first gear that way and you can drive all over town without ever using the clutch. time your lights right dont roll right up with the car in front of you. say you are in 7th light ahead is going red you are several hundred feet out bump the trottle pull it out of gear and coast.when light turns put it in the gear.
As for timing shifts it's all by feel.. At least when u have drivin a truck at least once. And double cluthing is soo easy... Speed shifting is more challenging
can enybody help, ive only driven a semi twice and going from 1-4th gear i am fine but for some reason when i try to take it out of 4th gear into 5th i cant, are my rpm's wrong?
