One of the most under recognized and unappreciated musicans Peter Baumann was the real techniciam behind Tangerine Dream. Hence the years they subsequently spent stuck in a rut of commercialized mediocrity after his departure. Peter Baumann, a true hero and innovator who's priceless contribution helped spawn a whole new musical genre.
In the early eighties we used to listen to this music as kids sitting on the back seats of our crap coloured BMW 320 while we were driving to the Sauerland region for the summer holidays. Wonderful memories.
Thirty years on I discovered there were a whole bunch of artists in Germany who made this kind of music around that time. All more or less brilliant stuff. Neu!, Harmonia, Wolfgang Riechmann, Popol Vuh, Cluster etc. etc. Kraftwerk were important, but there were many more.
Ok, this is 80s Miami Vice. Can't you just see Crockett and some drug dealer stalking each other in a giant loft apartment or abandoned garment factory?
