  • Bro, which part do you apply the thermal compound?

  • I did this a while back, and it solved my fps problems. But the problems started happening again. I tried this again, and it didn't work. Help?

  • Thank you very much for the tips, I think you're right on the mark with what my problem is. Although I just want to check, as it's not a permanent slowdown, it's more of valleys and spikes with my FPS rate- It'll run briliantly smooth for a bit, and then suddenly lag for about 2 minutes or so, then spike back up. I assume that getting it cleaned like you recommended would help with that too? :)

  • I've been having overheating issues myself; unfortunately I had to replace my graphics card because I didn't catch the issue in time. :/ Will definitely be cleaning out the fan this way.

  • Could there be a temporary solution till I do all this? Like maybe a program that would boost my fan or something, I don't know...

  • @TrollerDudeVEVO

No, if you did that you would end up stressing your fan components because you are pushing the same dust clods that are congesting the cooling system. This entire problem is caused by a lack of flow that ends up producing compacted dust clods.

The only way is to do all this. Just be glad you aren't working on a G73.. it is a nightmare compared to this.

  • Hey CLANCAMP, much appreciation for this video. I have a g51somethingsomething and was getting the high temps, slowdowns and full-on shut downs. I don't know if it was the heatsink or just a super dirty fan but whatever it was, I followed your instructions and now I'm back to temps like when I bought the thing. The layout of mine inside was a little different but close enough for me to figure it out. Thank you so much!

  • @joeagraff

No problem man! I still remember the awesome performance recovered after doing this.

  • How do you unplug the fan from the motherboard? Do you just pull?

  • Well it works. Kinda surprising, but when you think about it it does make some sense. Don't want to do it all the time, but hey I went from not being able to play games on their lowest settings to being able to play almost everything I have on their highest.

  • Thinking about trying this, got the same laptop a while back and played games fine. Now it lags up the splash screen when you power it on. I cleaned out dust before, but never that far into it. Suppose it can't hurt too much.

  • Great advice, great video, saved me having to replace my laptop. I can run Skyrim smooth as anything now!

  • I seriously need a tutorial for a stationary-pc, not a laptop.

Im so tired of the fps drops, i tried to fix it tonight, and almost broke my PC, but it didn't make any deference, because the inside of my pc doesn't look the same, please help!!

  • Hey can ANYONE help me with this, anyone at all video creator etc. Ill just get to the point.

This same thing happens with my Asus G60Vx Series it is supposedly a gaming laptop and it runs fine i can play most things on ultra high graphics. All is splendid im having fun. Then suddenly it starts lagging. Not THAT bad as in the video but its fucking annoying it is laggy stil and VERY noticable. Would i do the same thing here to my Asus Notebook G60Vx Series?

Cause it pisses me off so much >.>

  • @Fallout3131 yes you would....there pretty much the same...just different specs.

  • @wolfboy20 kk, thanks :D

  • THANK YOu!!!!! thank you very much man.

  • i buy this laptop in 2008,i try this method in 2011.Amazing!!! i can play games again !!! :))) THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN ;) RESPECT!

  • Thanks, it works. Probably a good idea to clean 1-2 years old laptops cuz of all the dusts anyway.

  • how can i do this for a pc?

  • Outstanding and effective tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

  • @finum

    You're welcome!

  • I have a brand new dell xps 15z. I run world of warcraft at 45-50 fps, but the old republic (beta) is running at 18-20 in some sections and slideshow of 8-9fps in some other areas. I dont get what the issue is. I turned the graphics down all the way too, and still same issues. The computer does get a little warm with BOTH games, but nothing serious. The computer is brand new, so there should be no dust issues.

  • @undeadspectre99 oh, i also updated all the graphics drivers, bios, etc.

  • Aww so now I have to take my rig of 4 fans blowing into my motherboard off? I enjoyed the noises.

    Thanks dude.

  • Um, also, I forgot to say: my fan is loud as hell. It is ALWAYS loud, but when I get to games it becomes even louder. What should I do?

  • I had the exact same problem (two times already) and cleaning the fan from dust helped me. I didn't remove the fan or anyting. Should I do what @CLANCAMP does in the video?

  • Has anyone else gotten to the point where the game will just freeze and then you have to restart the computer?

  • I am having this EXACT same issue right meow, playing alien swarm i figured it might have been crapware so I reformatted only to have the same issue. Ran Speed fan and my idle temp was within a degree or two of yours and after the game (alien swarm) stuttered at the exact same spot my GPU load temperature was 104 celsius.

Thumbs up if this exact thing happened to you.

  • if you clip/disconnect the blue wire on your cpu fan, the fan runs at max speed at all times and it wont really get to the point of no return with the amount of heat it's producing. i have drilled holes in the bottom of the case uniformly, i have spent a lot of money on mats, fans, clip on fans, ... i reapplied heatsink grease. clipping the fan wire is what keeps the temp down to normal. but still it's very hot. it's poorly designed

  • omfg months and monthss of playing like this and i finnaly know what the problem is ty sooooo much just gotta take it to a shop now now way im taking the chance of screwing something up lol u r indeed epic

  • So I did all this and my computer works better but I did spin the fan fins while cleaning.... (with a q-tip and stuff) is that bad ?

  • @Redmaster16

If your fan continued to work after that I think you should be fine. It just isn't something you want to do on a regular basis.

  • @CLANCAMP It does still work but Ill admit I do see a performance decrease so im gonna assume moving it = will cause it to malfunction severly guess ill be hunting for a replacement fan..

  • @CLANCAMP hey man, i get this problem, but its not related around temperature, iot doesnt increase at all becuase this pc is new, any suggestions?

  • well buddy, he's the thing...i opened it up to clean it about 4 months ago... i cleaned everything, i applied the themal compound at both the GPU and CPU, the problem remained the same... when i checked at your video, i tried again... all the same, i cleaned also the fan which i hadn't cleaned last time but... Nope. Nothing. Niet. Nada... Please...oh please if you know something please help me... I have a base cooler(for 15" laptop though..) but heating is still an issue... I own the G50V model.
  • @sand451

I'm no technician but my guess would be that something in your cooling system is compromized, probably a heatsink pipe or some sort of junction between the component and cooling system.

  • @sand451 you might have put too much thermal compound on the CPU and/or GPU .. it's only supposed to be One millimeter or so.. and exactly in the square, nothing outside, I guess there's a chance you put to little but that's highly unlikely! or it could be as clancamp said prob

  • Mine idles at 82 on the gpu, and gets to 105 while gaming (c). But i dont notice a difference in fps... I have the g51v with 260 and centrino 2 duo.

  • YOU SIR ARE A GOD AMONG INSECTS

  • I can't get the fan unplugged, my friends asus g50v has this exact same problem. We've tried using mini-plyers on it, but still can't get it off. Is there any trick to it?

  • @ReThinkMinecraft press down on the pins?? and m-board??

  • Dude..ur my life saviour =) i love u n thanks for the help =)

  • @2710Hardy

    Happy gaming!

  • my computer is at the point where I am playing games and its gets so hot that the computer itself shuts down. this is a fix for that as well?

  • @XeLNick

As far as I know (I'm not a professional but have long experience with computers), my GPU shuts down the computer after reaching a certain temperature to prevent damage.

    This fixed the problem.

  • @XeLNick mine did the same 5 months ago, i took it to the repare shop, and after they fixed the problem,

they told me that the silicon jell had dryed & was no longer dispensing heat away from the graffic card.

it only needs new silicon jell. hope that helps :)

  • I am having the same issue with the fps slowing down...a little worried about the re-application of the thermal compound.

  • I was a little weary taking out the fan, but it turns out alright if you are delicate and patient. My warranty expired during the summer so i figured what the hey. It was nice to actually feel air flowing out the fan when i turned my computer back on

  • I just did this for my G50vt-x5 and it's running MUCH cooler. I'm not getting any more problems with my fps or overheating (Still runs a little hot, but not nearly as badly.) Thanks for the upload.

  • @moonrunner09

    Glad it helped!

  • Aw man, do we really need to re-apply the thermal compound?

What happens if I just leave the old one there?

  • @sickpee

You will most likely overheat any components that have the broken thermal compound on it. Applying fresh thermal compound improves performance from what it was with the old compound so its a win win situation. It isn't as hard or stressful as most people think.

  • @CLANCAMP

Yeah, I kinda figured after doing my research online.

I actually finished the whole process just now. I'm posting, so I obviously didn't brick my machine (I was freaking out for a bit because screws seemed to be sticking magnetically to my screwdriver).

It still remains to be seen if I managed to get the application right or not.

  • dude, thanks so much. i had to run my games without the bottom cover + a 2-fan desk. i haven't realized how to remove the fan until i saw this video. will test son.

  • I've just cleaned my notebook! It works like a charm! dirt3 with max AA filter and high settings, temp maxed at only 92 C. In former times, it would be 110 C in 5 minutes.

I'd like to apply thermal compound on the gpu also, but I wasn't able to remove its heatpipe. any ideas?

  • @T3tr1s

Just be very careful, and research before removing anything. I'm not a computer expert but I have also managed to dust my G73 which is a nightmare to get into compared to the G50 in this video..

  • Anyway, I figured out a way to clean this without voiding warranty. Using a focused LED light to see where the dust was, I used a thin plastic toothpick (straightened paperclip or brush wire should work the same) to go through the small hole for the fan. Very gently, I wiggled the dust loose from each of the fins of the heat sink. Then I blew air in (breath is OP imo) from the outside grill. A bunch of gunk came out. Repeated a couple time to clean all the fins while checking with the LED.

  • Thanks for putting this up. I had this overheating issue for a while now without understanding the cause. And my laptop was still under warranty, so I was stuck (too painful and time consuming to send it through warranty service). I had to keep the bottom cover off all the time to be able to run any games.

  • u sure are awesome,...

    so help me out.

i hav a desktop..and i hav stuttering on all games..i hav a n HD 5770 and an asus motherboard..bt no idea wich model...so..wats causing it..i realy wnt it to be fixed

  • Really want to give this a try, does it void the warranty though?

  • @42KRist

Yes it will void the warranty. I did this well after my warranty was expired.

  • Videos pretty dark but still is usefull computer now plays with low fps

  • How do you remove the fan from the motherboard.

  • Very nice guide indeed. Actually just blowing compressed air into the fan assembly from both the inside and outside the case does a pretty decent job. It doesn't quite get you down to 35 C idle, but it gets down to 50 C, which is still a large improvement over 70 C idle.

  • I tried this and there was a lot of dust in the fins. My father and I cleaned it out and put everything back together and now it won't boot. The lights on the panel come on and the CD drive seems to be trying to do something, but the fan and the rest of it doesn't come on. Nothing happens. We did apply the thermal compound. When we were to the CPU it fell out. It only fits in one way though and we've tried putting it all back together a few times with no improvement. Any ideas?

  • @gutzythestarwarsguy

A few things could have happened, so these are all theories.

    1) Static discharge killed your components when you handled the components.

    2) If you sprayed canned air onto your motherboard, liquid could have came out and shorted the components upon powering on the laptop. (Liquid usually only comes out if you shake the canned air prior to use)

    3) When the CPU dropped out it could have been critically damaged, or the handling of the CPU caused damage.

    I've done #2 before :(

  • I love you. Thank you so much.

  • Playing Bad Company 2 with my shaders overclocked to 2k, I was playing at a steady 30-40 fps with a temp of 50C. Thanks again :)

  • @i3arrag3

Nice! I bet it looks beautiful. You're welcome!

  • this the same on g50vt-x5

  • Thank you so much! Before I cleaned out the dust and the heat sinks, it was idling at 70C! The problem was that ASUS (Stupid People) Did not press down all the way on the heatsink for the cpu, causing the Compound to dry up, it took 2 hours to remove the compound. I just went to go buy arctic silver 5, and now my laptop is idling at 35C! The GPU compound was still wet and moist, I should really write a complaint letter.

    Regards!

  • @i3arrag3

Wow I never heard of that before. You did a good job saving your computer!

  • Thanks a TON. I tried everything from reconfiguring my driver to wiping my computer. Who would've thought it was just dust? You, sir, are the ASUS guru. Again, thanks!

  • @Loweves2

Thanks man! I did give credit to where credit is due though, at the time I made this video only two people posted the information and I made this video to make the information more accessible.

I recently had to dust my G73 and WOW that thing requires many steps to get to the heatsinks, but now my computer is running again ;]

I tried the drivers too but you know that is just a lazy non-fix, if things happen intermittently or randomly it is usually a heat issue.

  • Thankyouthanktouthankthankyou!!!! You are a god to me now! +100 internets for you!

  • @RainbowCaptain

Hell yea, puts the +100 internets in the pile of fruit baskets and flower bouquets I received after making this video. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much. I love you

Crysis 2 is now running as fuck

  • @Snake92170

    Hell ya! Happy gaming.

  • thank you !!! <3

  • @patthady167

    You're welcome!

  • Thank you SO much. My Asus gaming laptop (different model then in video) was having the same issues and I was about to give up on it- until this video :) worked flawlessly and can go back to cranking up my gfx details. Thank you!!

  • @Lionel2b

    glad to help man!

  • 00:45, I said the exact same thing too.

  • @AshuraXDemon

    lol damn right.

  • You sir, are a god.

  • @TheMonty646

You sir are welcome! muahahah ;] happy gaming.

  • this is magic! I highly reccomend this fix!

dropped my cpu temp down to about 40 degrees even during gaming

  • i hope this works, im going to try and get my hands on some of that stuff and ill let you know how it works, thanks...funny, i called tech support from asus and they said i needed to download something like new dirvers for my graphics card. wtf?

  • Thx! It worked like a charm!!

  • Comment removed

  • Is it possible to use this fix without applying the thermal compound? and if not are there any good tutorials you know of for applying such a compound?

  • @tk2tspobid

You have to re apply the thermal compound. Think of it as reinstalling a car's radiator without the radiator hoses. The car would overheat almost immediately.

  • This is amazing! I work from my computer and I was hating how hot it got, but it is almost magic, it is not overheating anymore. Bro, your video is a life saver! At least for my laptop. THANKS for that video!!!!

  • @elantai23

    Awesome! Spread the word!

  • It really worked. Thank you so much for posting that video. I can already feel my Laptop doesn't overheat.

  • Great Video! Thanks for taking the time to do it. I've had this problem for 6 months, yesterday I followed the steps and my Laptop is running great again.

  • @noalimentos

Great to hear it man! Spread the word and enjoy your gaming once again!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey thank you very much for this. have the same laptop now for 2 years this guide helped me out alot because would get the same lost frames while playing mmo's :(

    gave a thumbs up.

  • @MeruAsuncion

Glad that this helped! I appreciate the thumbs up!

  • Great guide man! BTW would you recommend this for G50VT-x5? I'm not sure if it has the same sort of motherboard structure but it should, right? It has the exact same issue (stuter, fps slowdown) like you mentioned and I've even seen those three colors (red, yellow, green etc) that signals when it overheats. T_T

  • @metamorphiclouds

If all else fails try it. Others have reported deep cleaning the vents as shown here on totally different computers with success. ;] good luck

  • @metamorphiclouds

Yes, I have the x5 and followed these steps. They have the same heat sync structure and motherboard.

  • omg I have the same problem, all my pipe sistem was full of dirt thx for the video it really works

  • No more lag! YOU SAVED MY LIFE!

  • Holy shit, Just cleaning out the vents with a dozen Q-tips dropped my idle temps by 20 C :D

  • This Video was very helpful my only problem is I am able to get to the step to remove the six screws with no problem of getting the out of there groves, but when I try and remove the fan the area where I remove the six screws is still firmly attached like it is sealed right to the parts under the sections even without the screws and I don't want to risk trying to pull to hard and damaging anything any advice?

  • @Solidus don't worry it means that thermal paste from your CPU has worn out, which causes it to stick to the heatsink.

as long as you have the 6 screws and the plug out, it's safe to pull it out.

make sure you apply new thermal paste

  • thankyou soooo much!!!!!

  • It actually helped! After cleaning and applying arctic silver 5 it works great! The temp never gets higher than 70 C while gaming

  • I have a g50v A1, if you have cleaned your laptop and done a thermal grease replacement as stated in this vid and its still having heat issues. Replace your fan. Purchase one off ebay for 17.00. Right now Im getting CPU temps nothing higher than 45C and GPU temps nothing over 78C.

  • This was the answer I needed. GPU load temps dropped from 110 to 86 immediately, and no more stuttering. Thanks CLANCAMP! For those that do this, one thing missing in the video is the fact that the fan assembly will not just come up as shown. That's the old thermal paste holding the copper tube to the die. pull the copper tube up with gentle steady pressure and it will release. I encountered a bit of tape attaching the main fan assembly at the edge of the machine, which peeled off easily.

  • @aaarrrggghhh101

Thanks for adding that specific bit of info about removing the fan assembly. In my video it appears to just pop out but I had already taken it out and put it back in place to show how it comes out because it took a bit of finagling lol.

  • Oh, um. If anyone is interested, this problem started after my boyfriend tripped on the power cord and the laptop fell on the ground. I am guessing that it either jarred some dust loose which clumped into those fan slits/blades, or it somehow messed up some thermal compound somewhere, or both. After cleaning dust + cleaning off old compound + applying new compound and reassembling, works like a charm now! ^__^ CLANCAMP, thank you for the video!

  • @Vilavek

    Awesome! Happy gaming!

  • Alright, I just did this on my G50V and it apparently fixed my almost year long problem! I followed the video to a T except I deviated slightly. I noticed I didn’t have very much dust build up at all and went after the video card. I unscrewed the two screws holding down the GPU and realized it would be a pain in the ass to actually remove it and then retightened the screws.

    BEFORE: Idle GPU: 60C, Starcraft 2: 92C

    AFTER: Idle GPU: 52C, Starcraft 2: 71C

    Game played on Ultra settings.

  • ugg ok i applyed the thermal paste do i apply the thermal paste on the gpu also? if so do i take out the fan when i do so?

  • Nice video man it really helped me :D. Just one problem i wanna put artic 5 but didnt cuz i didnt wanna mess things up so could you make a video about putting thermal paste if you can? thanks a lot :D

  • @ommarshakir

You HAVE to put a new application of the arctic 5 or you run the risk of overheating and destroying your computer!!!!

Just take off the old stuff gently with a Qtip (thats what I used) and just put a small amount of it on the die and it will get squashed by the heatsink and spread to the surface of the die. Don't put too much or it will spread too far and spill off the die and onto the board.

  • @CLANCAMP

Alright thanks man i just bought artic silver today gonna put it in the cpu also one more thing the cpu is the green thing right? on my asus g50vt-x1 there is two green thing im assuming thats the cpu i put the silver on the metal part right? thanks

  • @ommarshakir

the cpu die is black/dark grey. look up a tutorial on applying thermal compound before you do this!!!

  • The GPU is still idle at about 72-74 degrees and the temp 1: 68 core 0 & core 1 are running at about 53-55 degrees.

  • How long should it take for the new application of paste to work?

  • Comment removed

  • damn! you're the man! it really works! i've been looking for so many months about this problem!

  • Thanks a lot mate... it worked like magic..:')

  • Thumb this up to help G50VT users with overheating problems.

I have been struggeling with overheating on my G50VT for some time now, and i finaly found a solution!

What i have done to try fixing my G50VT:

1.Cleaned the laptop 100% for dust.

2.Removed old thermal paste and added MX-2 thermal paste.

3.Tried with several diffrent programs to controll the fan, and none of the programs can controll it.

    None of those worked.

    Solution:

Download "Direct console" and click "Turbo" then "Normal". Fixed

  • @Garachiyas

I think the reason behind the overheating is due to the laptop putting itself automaticly in "Turbo exstream".

Which overclock the GPU by alot, which pushes the computers hardware to the exstream... And makes the laptop GPU overheat to 110C after just minuts of gameplay.

After i "normalized" my laptop, my GPU is stable on around 70-80 for hours when playing Bad company 2.

Hope this solution wil help the G50VT users out there. =D

  • or buy a better pc :P

  • This didn't do the trick for me. I'm still struggeling with overheating (hitting 110C whenever i play a 3D game).

I have blown and cleaned the whole thing, so there is no dust in it at all. And i added new thermal (MX-2) paste in the correct way.

After all that work, i'm able to play 3D games for a longer periode of time, from 20 min to 1-2 hours..., i got a board under the computer with 2 fans...does help some..but not enough.

    - I think there is something wrong with asus fan setting in win7

  • @Garachiyas

I think there is something wrong with asus fan settings, since when i use asus nootbook program " Asus NB probe" it say that my computer fan speed is "low and quiet" at around 90C, and just "normal" at 100C.

So i tought;what if i can controll the fanspeeds myself!

but there is no way to do it on the asus G50VT..i'v tried: EVGA's Precision - Speedfan - RivaTuner - Nvidia NTune - nvidea system tools and others, None found the fans.

But what if i cut the yellow cord? wil it go 100%?

  • Can you just clean out the dust from the fan and vents and not apply thermal compound to the cpu ?

  • @kfd056

The reason you have to apply the thermal compound is because there is no way to properly access and clean the dust out of the fan housing without removing the entire fan assembly. This requires separating the current thermal compound bond and you MUST reapply thermal compound once you break the bond, otherwise you will overheat your computer and its dead.

  • @CLANCAMP ok thanks for the info.

  • yes it voids the warranty

  • does this take away the warranty?

  • Seems like a great fix. I have a question though. After I did this my laptop seems to be running games perfectly now but my GPU fan is making a strange buzzing sound now, it sounds almost like a car engine reving. Anyone have any idea why it might be doing that?

  • Great post, however im having some problems, I have done everything that this video says but when I power my laptop back on I have a black screen. The fan and all the lights are on but I have nothing on the screen it's self, anyone have any ideas I might try??

  • Great ;) I had some problems with unplugging the fan from the motherboard but I managed. Thanks a lot dude !

  • The new thermal compound can decrease temps by 10 degrees+ alone.... that was some very good compound, i use it in my gaming computer.... all in all i will say that dust probably caused some of the problem, use of bad thermal paste by Asus is another issue....

  • Worked like a charm. Thank you!

  • @DrAg0n0485

    Happy gaming!

  • Awesome. It works even without applying new paste. I just heating the fan assembly with a blowdryer before re-installing it for what it's worth. Now my computer plays all the latest games perfectly. Mafia II, Starcraft II and F1 2010. Thanks!

  • @indueng

You are welcome! Happy gaming, and remember, although you may feel the new thermal paste is not necessary, it is ALWAYS prudent to apply a new application because the bond has deteriorated in one way shape or form when you take apart the heatsink from the die.

  • IT WORKS! I just did everything and voilá, no low fps, no more.

    Thanks bro!

  • @Angbandz

You welcome man! Happy gaming and spread the word about the video!

  • awesome fix! i bought my friends ASUS G50V for $300 CASH he said the motherboard was shorting out on games, the side vent blew out hot enuff air to burn your hand, before i used your AWESOME fix!

i cleaned everything out just like u said and cleaned the contacts and applied new thermal grease the same as u used. works like a charm now! WOW

    u are the best!

    regards, Kruserman

  • worked like a charm!

dont think dust was even the real problem (was not much dust in my case), the thermal stuff that was used clearly was failing so after cleaning and putting new thermal compound on (any of stuff you get with cpu coolers will do) it worked great again.

  • I wll try this method. I never really knew whats was happening to my laptop.

Tonight i'll make I will clean off the dust, but the thermal compound will be for the next time, since i don't have anyone here.

    Thanks @CLANCAMP

  • @Angbandz

If you do not have thermal compound you CANNOT put the heatsink back in place or you will destroy your computer.

  • @CLANCAMP Oh, really? Well, lucky me that don't mess with it then. Thanks for the tip, I'm going to buy some thermal compound very soon.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you so much for this. This definitely worked. I was getting temps almost your exact same temps and now at idle my CPU cores get down to nearly 37C! My GPU tops out at 82C!

    Some tips for others:

    1. Make sure you get all the old thermal paste off the CPU's before applying new paste.

    2. Only use a very small amount (less than a grain of uncooked rice) of artic silver thermal paste. It spreads very easily

    3. There are very detailed instruction on ArticSilver's official website.

    THANKS AGAIN

  • @EP4LFC

I am very happy to hear that this helped you out! I agree, make sure you guys are removing ALL of the old thermal paste, use a Q TIP to remove it and try not to get it onto the motherboard or anywhere else.

When applying the new arctic silver compound be sure to use a very small amount as it spreads across the die very easily and you do not want it to run off the edge of the die onto the board.

    Happy gaming!

  • @CLANCAMP

A Q-tip will work but I read on the instructions for artic silver that you should use something lint free like a coffee filter. They said even fingerprint oil can be thick enough to prevent the paste from working optimally (the effect could be very small).

Also, for those who said it didn't work, wait a little while because the instructions also say there's a 200 hour 'break in' period for the paste.

  • I'm experiencing the same symptoms as what you've described.

Did all this stuff, opened it up, took out the fan/heatsink... Mine was practically spotless. I don't see any dust.

This fix did nothing for me.

I'm idling right now at 73C GPU and 44C CPU. Can't play any games (SF4 or SC2) for more than a few short moments before the temp spikes to 105C.

The only other thing is that my fan makes a lot of noise. Could it be the fan motor dying?

Where can I replace my fan?

  • @vdeity

It is definitely a heat issue if you are getting those types of temps. Let me ask you though in case you forgot, did you check and dust the heat sink fins that are built into your laptop that the fan and everything else attaches to? If not that can be the source of your problem.

Also, are you experiencing 105 C as soon as you turn the computer on and waiting a few minutes? Or are you running into 105 C when you try playing games that use the GPU?

You can replace your fan with ASUS.

  • @CLANCAMP I said that the temperature spikes when I try playing games. Typically idles in Windows and on Internet Explorer around 75-85C.

Yeah, I took it apart and pulled out the fan and cleaned all around the heat sink. Though it hardly needed cleaning.

Also, the heatsink/fan module for the G50 series laptops are no longer in stock on the Asus website.

Do you know the exact dimensions of the fan itself and where I can get a replacement?

  • @vdeity

Try calling customer support and tell them you need it replaced via warranty that is how I originally replaced my fan a long time ago.

I don't know the dimensions of the fan at all. Now that I think about it, my fan was VERY loud, sounded like a motor when the fan was kicked in and it was hardly cooling anything down.

Fan is probably the problem as you mentioned.

  • Hey ClanCamp any suggestions for me..? Im pretty sure im the youngest here with this laptop and it upsets me beyond belief how much i lag in Starcraft 2.. im playing a league game then 1 fps.. i get rushed i loose... I do have somewhat of an Anger issue i broke my cooling Pad for my G50v by slamming the computer down, it just upsets me.. Anyway i want to try this method out looking at the comments it works but i dont want to break it. I dont know what.. compressed air is either lol, help?

  • @Chiavarii

compressed air is air in a can that shoots air out the nozzle and blows dust away cleaning parts like the cooling fins on the heatsink that gets dust clogged up

  • @CLANCAMP Hey yea thanks Clan, i actually got the materials needed to do this yesterday i am planning things out i do not want to mess up and do something wrong, i bought a Dust remover spray from Radio shack.. and they did not have the Arctic silver 5 thermal so the sales person told me to buy the instant bonding adhesive. Which i think would do the same job as the arctic silver? says easy bond on metal most plastic etc etc. any thoughts?

  • @Chiavarii

Do NOT use the instant self bonding adhesive i have no idea what that is, it sounds like super glue which is 100% wrong,

You need thermal compound which i what arctic silver 5 is. its about $10 for a tiny amount

  • dude u r a life saver i thought my lap top was just screwed from over heating ... now i can ply starcraft 2 ... thank you
