Got this removed 5 days ego.. Had this for 4 frickin days (very uncomfortable having this sticking out of ur chests) ... hurt likes hell when this is removed! Fortunately that area was numb so did not feel it too much.
I had my right middle lobe and my right lower lobe removed from a fungal mass. I was on the ventilator for 12 days and ended up with a trache. I had three chest tubes and when I finally woke up two weeks later. all three chest tubes were pulled out. I didn't feel any pain from the removal. although, I did have a problem with yellowish drainage for a few days. I did not get any stitches.
Guys its all about the doctor, when he removes it ,i didnt feel anything, only the insertion hurts not the removal :P there is a trick my doctor learned me to avoid pain,he told me to get a big breath, hold it and then release the air, when i was releasing the tube was out already and i was like "come on is it out or what???" :P
I had a spinal fusion when I was 12, and the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life was having the chest tube ripped out (it sure felt like that). I screamed and I cried so much afterwards. It was awful.
dude u got off lucky. when they took mine out they stitched it closed right away and the skin was fully pinched. it was like an inch high, and i didnt have any pain drugs. be lucky u didnt have it stitched right away
@rugbyfan808 It needed to be stitched because the DR was a new intern and didnt seal the opening properly... Every time I exhaled I could feel (and hear) air sucking into the pleural cavity through the hole in my side... Haha, I thought I was leaving the hospital that day... I thought wrong. Boooo
Same here I had it but I was crying like a baby. I was crying so bad for like 5 minutes. Im 15 and last year it happened. Reason why Im here is because I HAD ANOTHER LUNG COLLAPSE just a few hours ago. Im so scared to go back to the hospital and having to go through that again. Im trippin balls right now.
@TheG24 I went to the hospital with 2.5 month delay , i was living with the pain i could manage it but 25 days ago when i first went there, i didnt know i had pneumothorax i thoguht it wasnt so serious, they inserted me a tube, but after9 days they putted me a second one because there was osme air left inside because of my delay, the second tube hurt like hell, the first one was ok... if it happened second time to you you will have to get a surgery so the chance for this to happen again will be 1%
@Alaniaris8 Bullshit I just had VATS surgery this June because after like 30 small collapse I finally got a 100% collapse with a fever and I got VATS to prevent another lung collapse and the chances of another occurring was 10% so my luck must be very bad because I hit one of those 10% and got another collapse about 2 weeks ago. I'm ok now but I dont want to get another surgery and if I do I'm going to ask for pain killers so my ass can be high trhoughout the week lol. When did this happen to u
@TheG24 Haha yeah pain killers <3 Well it happened on May approximately,i mean the pain,it was insane sometimes, but the pain passed after few days reappeared after some other days etc,Finally when i felt it wwas hard for me to breath on July 1st i visited th ER and they putted me a chest tube,i delayed like 2 months to go to hospital so the lung didnt fully recover anbd they inserted another tube to remove the remaining air so i avoid Vats and i did avoid it,now 2 months later i dodnt feel pain
@TheG24 He first told me that there will be like 30% that it will happened again,i was so scared.. now on september 2nd i visited doctor and he told me im ok and i can start working again or do sports from time to time, continue my life as i was,i dodnt feel 100% good tho,i feel a lil wierd on the lung sometimes,so im going to visit another doctor these days to be more sure..
@adamskiiscool That was last year but I didn't need a chest tube but this June I had a big collapse along with a fever so I needed 2 chest tubes this time along with VATS surgery to prevent another collapse from occurring and that was the most depressing week of my life and worst part was that I had a catheter for the week because I also got a UTI. For anyone who is gonig to the hospital or has one. ASK FOR VATS SURGERY and lot of pain killers to get you high...BTW I have another collapse now :/
ahh man i remember those, i had lung surgery like 4 years ago, and i had 1 in each side in me to help my lungs with air pockets in my lungs?? from what the doctor said, it felt so weird having those pulled out, and getting your cathador(tube up your private part) pulled out burns, anyways when you get this surgery you don't crap for like a week and a half, seriously cause your lying in bed for like 2 weeks and the chemicals make you constipated
AHHH I remember that feeling!! unfortunatly every time one of mine came out....my lung filled up with fluid again and i ended up having about 8 damn they cane
the funny thing is with all the pain of the chest drains and lack of sleep as well i was glad of the OP to get some rest lol but when i woke up it was a different matter..anyhow that was a couple of years ago and im doing fine..
i had a few chest drains.. 5 in all in the space of two years and a OP even had a chest drain inserted in the back as well over the lung area that was swine.. had my OP on cardiff on right lung to remove some cysts on lungs, as that was the worse they would burst one of those cysts and lung would collapse
Wow...My husband is a cardiopulmonary surgeon and I hear him talk about this sort of thing all the time, but it's really something else to see the tube removal from an actual person.
i have had 2 chest tubes and 2 chest drains the ones in your gut the go up into your chest they don't hurt coming out the only thing that hurt was when they pinched the skin after it came out.
i had 2 drains on my right side and an op der bout 2 months ago. first time jus got local anisthecic fr initial cut...sore as fuck when tryin to push the tube through rib cage!!!!! surgery grand tho,was asleep fr in,jacked up on painkillers when i woke.happy days...
Coming out isn't bad, it's when they put one in while you're awake that hurts like a futhermucker. (I had 2 spontaneous pneumo's, and a surgery on each lung in 2 months & they didn't put me under when they put the first tube in) Needless to say, that wasn't a good start to that year
yep, those things are not fun. I had one for 9 days after I had a spontanious pnemo from coughing too hard during a asthma attack. not only the pain of the tube, but then the dumbass surgon left a stitch in and i got a secondary infection. dumb doctor..how big is your scar? mine is HUGE
