  • Kenny Pasarelli is a great bass player, but he looks like a complete moron in this video.

  • I still like Dan Fogelberg, and I remember this song quite well...

  • Dan had quite a few harder rocking songs like this, but they are relatively unknown next to his softer more popular material. Try "Face The Fire," "She Don't Look Back," and "The Spirit Trail" and you'll see that Dan could rock with the best of 'em!

  • Dan hit #13 in Billboard, 3-24-84. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Dan.

  • O wow I remember this song but had totally forgot about it wow ty

  • One of the best songs of the 80's. And Dan is Playing a Gretsch White Falcon guitar How cool is that. RIP Dan thank you for sharing your music with us.

  • I knew he sang a rock song years ago and couldn't rember what it was and thank you for posting it ...

    LIKE LIKE

  • the guy was oh so talented

    rip

  • You have to give credit and respect to Dan for temporarily putting away the acoustic guitar and just wanting to rocking out here!!!! I love this tune as well as his ballads. Very underappreciated storyteller and musician.

Hope you are soaring with the eagles and the angels, Dan. Rest in peace.

  • @DestroyerofSouls666

This work stands out for me as being so unbelievably uncharacteristic of his work. I recall being blown away by his hard rockin'. I bought the album, but the piece was a one-off. Did he just get baked one day and decided to let his freak flag fly?

  • @pinz2022 --Good question! I really don't know the answer, however, I can respect Dan for trying to show a different side of himself without changing his style. When you listen to this tune, you realize that even though the amp is turned up, Dan's trademark melodies, heartfelt sentiments and integrity are still there.

  • Very much under-rated and really miss him walking amongst us, but his music will always be timeless.

  • He was seriously underrated, which is a shame. I love his voice.

  • I remember an OLD book about the MUSIC VIDEOS of the 80s and it gave this video THUMBS DOWN :O

  • even dan fogelberg can rock the cowbell! how did this one miss the mainstream rock charts? he had a few other charting singles on there but this one seems to fit the 80s mainstream rock charts demands the best

  • I listened to this song over and over again when I was profoundly in-love with someone who never knew my feelings. When I first found this song on You Tube my heart leaped for joy!

  • thank you

  • I LOVE this song! :)

  • I once heard that,"A songwriter really needs no inscription on his tombstone...ALL his lyrics stand as his testomony of life..." Dan Fogelberg, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Richie Valens...if there's a Rock "N" Roll heaven...you know they got a hellova good Band!

  • 27 years old and still great.

  • RIP DAN! He is in his own Rock and Roll heaven now!

  • Sad that he's gone. He had so much to give us romantic types

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • To be honest I prefer his more folks-y songs, but this song is cool, too. Dan could rock out with the best of 'em. RIP.

  • it needs more cowbell.

  • Dan you are so missed, and i hope your smiling up there with jimmy, moon, Jim Janice and all the other greats. rest now Dan your one of the best ,we miss you . thanks for the tunes you left us with, god bless you..

  • It's more content than any new music I have seen... Eminem rails about his recovery & taking care of his family priority....Lady Gaga says she is a free b*tch. I do find Dan's love songs always a bit melancholy, even this portrays the misunderstanding of love clues. Michael Buble is romantic, but very pop-simplistic. Dan is one of a kind & well suited to the time. Thank you Dan... for your talent & we are the better for being able to receive your musical gifts!

  • is that the keyboard player from REO? they are all from Champaign Ill.??? it looks like him.??

  • @thepianocoach Dan Fogelberg is from Peoria, not Champaign (thanks for spelling it right, BTW!). There was a rumor that the encounter with the ex (Same Auld Lang Syne) happened at the Eisner's on Green Street (my neighborhood grocery) in Champaign, but it actually happened at a convenient store in Peoria.

  • Beautiful Power Pop!~

  • Kenny Pasarelli is the bass

  • someone could comfirm to me if Kenny Pasarelli is the other one guitarrist?

  • This is the only song I can't seem to find tab for online. I'd love to play this... I guess I'll have to work on my "ear" some more. Classic song!

  • This is another example of an anthemic song they just don't make nowadays.

  • Best song he ever made...Well, maybe second best.....It's hard to beat " Old Lang Syne"

  • I'm amazed to see so many comments about dan from ..men!!! you men must have great souls and so romantic..just like dan and his music...BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • In addition to being a great songwriter and vocalist, the guy is SO underrated as a guitarist and muscian. He is the master of the hook-laden lead guitar. This song is a perfect example. The lead has so many subtle, but incredible nuances, it just leaves you very satified. The same with Face the Fire, off the top of my head.

  • Great song, great voice

  • Really cool tune! Versatile guy - check out the lead in the middle - neat lyrics, too.

  • Rolling Stone reviewed this album when it came out and only gave it one star out of five! They just murdered it! Already a longtime fan, I bought it anyway, and I played the hell out of it. What do critics know anyway?

  • Rolling Stone, which is usually good (love Matt Tiabbi) can suck my balls. Danny was da bomb.

  • Another great rocker from this album was "Let Her Go." I really dig that tune.

  • Probably my favorite Dan Fogelberg song ever! Gotta love his final album released just last week though. Please rest in peace Dan.

  • Cute video of Dan. You don't see much of this with Dan. Windows and Walls was released in 1987...

I miss you Dan, my favorite musician/artist/poet.

  • Are you sure about that? I thought it was released on New Year's Day 1984.

  • You're right. I've got the LP right here. 1984.

  • Luke Skywalker on bass, ladies and gentlemen lol

  • I never knew he did this song, and haven't heard it in 25 years. This is still a great tune and it's wonderful to hear it again!

  • I bought the cassette when it first came out. lol I miss old Dan. He had a great sound.

  • LOL - Fobelberg got cowbell at 2:05

  • Does anyone know who plays the piano in this song??

  • Michael Hannah. Mike played and performed with Dan on many of his albums and concerts. Former teacher/professor of music at a US college

  • His songs are of such great quality they are unforgettable.

  • awesome!

  • love this song....1979?? really greatful time....AFN played this song again and again....

  • might have been 1984, great stuff, album good too

  • yes...great stuff....and he has also an good song they called:*missing u*.....love <3 this 2

  • Nah, '79 was way too old... sometime in the early 80s for sure.

  • this was when mtv was i guess mtv music televison not programs that they shove down peoples throats and they throw it up.......

  • i never knew Dan made any upbeat music.. i'm impressed...i like this song

  • dammit, Dan, we miss you, you made frickin great music!

  • The sad irony is the very technology (Youtube, free downloads, the net in general) that allows us to enjoy this video will preclude the emergence of another Dan Fogelberg)...

  • Who plays better "cowbell"? The guy in 2:06 or Will Ferrell?

  • I always thought that bass player was John Cougar Mellencamp.

By the way, I believe that the Eagles' Timothy B. Schmitt sang backing vocals on the original version of this song.

  • He is rockin the Luke Skywalker kind of karate gi.

  • You mean December 16, 2007....not 2008.

  • I first discovered the legend that is Dan Fogelburg when i was rooting through mum's old LP's (Windows and Walls) and ever since then i have been hooked!!! A true vocal master!!!!

  • Fogelberg

  • Joe Vitale's book "Backstage Pass" just recommended this video (of course he's in it ) with our beloved Dan! He told how much fun it was to do and dress in "white" which is suppose to represent "Love". Thanks! Michelle :)

  • Hell yeah look at the Fogelberg rock out lmao. No but seriously, this man was amazing. His death is truly a horrible loss. :(

  • Thank you so much for posting/sharing. Dan's music will always live on in my heart, mind & soul. I've listened to him from his beginning album to sorrowfully his last. Thank you Dan for the gift of your incredible songwriting~all of the instruments you played so perfectly & your one of a kind voice. I've passed on Dan's music to an awesome 8 yr old who loves him as I did the 1st time she heard him. Hopefully she will pass him on to yet a 3rd generation. You are irreplaceable & oh so missed.

  • I'm passing on Dan's music to my 9 month old granddaughter! She loves watching him here on YT!

  • yeah, one of the best performers, I loved his style, and his music will live on forever.

  • i remember we half-laughed about dan goin' van halen (heckuva good solo, huh?) but nobody could deny this was a great bit of 1984 radio candy! awesome name by the way, buffalocrotch!

  • Musically speaking, we can hope someone else will follow in Dan's footsteps. However, no one will ever fill his sandals. Rest in peace Dan, and thanks so much for your great music that will live on forever!

  • Dan Fogelberg died about a year ago.

  • Dan Fogelberg is still alive. I guess he did more than love ballads. I saw him in Wallingford, Ct. What a great, great show it was. So many dirtbags live and this wonderfully talented guy checks out. He was a pro's pro.

  • He died of prostate cacner in December of 2007.

  • I remember seeing this video over 20 years ago and enjoying the song very much. I found a lot of meaning and depth in it. What Dan sings about is more than just the language of love. He'll be missed.

  • RIP Dan. We miss you. The leader of the band has died but his song is in our soul.

  • Check out that funky bass players outfit. He must be

going to Karate Class soon after the video shoot is over!!!

Great video, of course. This tune still rocks hard even today.

  • We miss you dan. You were an amazing musician. RIP

  • Hardly seems possible it's been a year today. Would that you were at your ranch in Pagosa Springs tonight, thinking about how you were going to shovel out from all this snow, putting another log on the fire, and making music.

Thank you for the music Dan. There's no one like you.

  • His singing, his songs, his style can be imitated but he will never ever be duplicated! RIP Dan! Thank God we have his music !

  • God bless you Dan! We miss you!!!

  • Great song! I remember when it came out in 83.

  • the songs of the 80s are the best this brings out the meaning of the song old time rock and roll todays music dont have the same soul lol plus todays music too much computer no band lol

  • Another one of Dan's powerful songs - and should have been called the "Anthem for Love" - after 26 years of marriage this song says it all for me!! No one will replace Dan, his legacy will remain for eternity

  • This was a huge pop radio hit in 1984. It made it top 10. With all the new wave stuff in 1984, this song really stood out. It holds up even today.

  • Dan Fogelberg was one of the most versatile in the music business as this video demonstrates and was a master at such a wide variety of styles. Too bad the world at large only heard one side, his mellow ballads, on the radio because there was so much more to this artist.

  • this year marks the 1 year anniversary of dan's passing.dan will be missed.but the music will never leave us.and will remain timeless.

  • December 16, 2008 will mark the exact day he died and I think radio stations ought to play some of songs during the day to remember and honor him!

  • How much fun did the great one have in making THIS video...!!!!

I'm betting he's smiling when this song is played...RIP Dan.

  • I agree! I love the part at 1:00 where he is walking in time with the tune. Also, the VERY END where his eyebrows lift. What fun he is! What a loss to us. Thank goodness we have this video so we can keep "seeing" him. RIP

  • Nice video and underrated song from Mr. Dan.

  • Thank U

  • Saw him in Tampa in 1984, was blown away by his musicianship and stage presence! And he is truly one of the greatest songwriters of his time. So sorry to hear of his passing-RIP.

  • What a gracious and kindly comment. He was a masterful performer.

  • Why Don't You Start It From The Very Begining Next Time!!!

  • Definitely one of Dan's best. Why?...........Because they never play it on the radio! They always play "Rhythm Of The Rain." It's still a great song though. Can anyone download another favorite, "Innocent Age" please.

  • Too much "'No' Means 'No'" propaganda in modern USAn culture?

  • Love this song..

  • great song..rip...

  • rip

  • Thank you thank you and THANK YOU... I am loving these DF clips... I am loving it...

  • GREAT underrated song from the dan man. Brings back some memories...RIP.

  • I am 99.9% that is Joe Vitale on drums.I actually googled him and saw some old photo's. He is one heck of a drummer. He has played with some of the greats in music. Here is some trivia. In the very late 80's after the High Country Snows album. Dan shaved off his trademark beard, and went some what unnoticed and joined Joe Vitale and others in a band named Frankie and the Aliens. They played around in bars in Colorado. How cool, would that been,to seen that? Lucky patrons!!!

  • this is so 80's :) Dan is the best... this white guitar was his pride and joy.. forgot the name/brand but know it is very rare and he spoke of his fondness of it quite often.!! thanks for the video... he is missed!!

  • Is that Mike Hanna on keyboards and piano? It looks like it could be. The only thing that gives me any indication, Mike can't stand still while performing. He just bops the entire time when he performs on stage with Dan. The studio recording, Joe Vitale, drums. Kenny Passarelli, bass. Mike Hanna piano, organ. Timothy B Schmidt(The Eagles) lend his vocals for harmony.

  • Who is on drums in this video?

  • It could be Joe Vitale. He played on many DF studio recordings. He did back him on this song in the studio. I have never seen him, so I am just guessing.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Michael Botts on drums in this video. An awesome drummer who is also missed. He passed away in 2005. Hopefully him and Dan are now in a great jam session together. BB in FL.

  • wrh61---you're right! I just found out he died at 56.

  • If this was in the early eighties, he must of been about 35 or so.

Very handsome man, but better yet, a beautiful soul and heart. Great mind too!

    BLessings to all DF Fans

    Vee

  • he was 33...the song is from 1984

  • I always liked this song.

As well as a genius songwriter and lyricist, Dan was a hell of a guitar player. He can play the shit out of a guitar.

    We miss you, brother.

  • He can play the s---out of a guitar!!It's very sad, that he never received much recognition for his guitar abilities.I always thought that Bonnie Raitt was the best slide guitarist around, until I saw him do a song from the Greetings From the West dvd. He was awesome!! What a talent, I am so in awe of what he is able to do. He will be so missed by many.

  • The song "Phoenix" is an overlooked guitar raveup from him, too. That is a lovely Gretsch White Penguin he's playing in this video. Rare, too--I saw it for sale elsewhere on the net for $80K.

  • Great uplifing tune from DF!!! What a great lyricists. I have to think the wink at the end was DF saying, Something differnet, hope you enjoy.

    RIP Danny.....Your music is timeless.

  • Thank you for sharing. Still so very hard to believe.

  • we will miss him dan.good song from the 1980's.

  • WHAT a treat! I had never seen this!!! I LOVE MY DANNY!!!

He must of been about 35 or close to it.

I had a mad crush on him. He walks so cute in this video: he's in heaven : ) XO

  • Switch the age numbers around. He was 53 when died.

  • hi Tazz, NO I MEANT in the video, he looks like he WAS about 35 then, I know he died at age 54.

    Thanks : )

    Vee, Colorado fan of Dan

  • OH! Ok,,,gotcha now but any age Dan was a great performer!

  • 56 kids

  • Anybody know who is on Bass?

  • Kenny Pasarelli

  • Thanks!

  • In this video, I always thought he looked like John Mellencamp!

  • more cowbell!

  • You can never have too much cowbell.

  • Phil Chen from Rod Stewart's band in the '70's and Eddie Van Halen/Brian May's Star Fleet Project. Funny that is the same guy that plays the the ripping slapping/popping breakdown on "Hot Legs"! Dan was also a master at Delta blues...he was amazing!

  • I am so racist...I was wrong:that ain't Phil Chen,it is another Asian session bassist:)

  • You are funny.

  • On the album, Joe Vitale played drums. Joe Lala played cowbell & tamborine.

  • I love this song and video! Dan's really enjoying himself in this one. God bless him and thank him for his love and poetry!

  • That bass player DOES mean it--looks like Kenny Passarelli and Joe LaLa on percussion..Dan used to play with the best--Russ Kunkel..Tim Weisberg. I don't know what Dan believed but someone with his talent instrumentally, vocally, lyrically and as a composer and arranger proves there is a God. People with that much talent don't evolve--God makes them that talented.

  • I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that it's Michael Botts on drums. Sadly he passed away a few years ago and also missed-he also did some tours with Dan and posted a tour diary that you can read on the DF site. Filled with great stories of being on the road. Hugs to all. BB in FL

  • Damn! That bass player play it like he means it!! and why is he dress like Luke Skywalker?

  • Maybe he is a big Star Wars fan! *l*

  • Can you imagine if he was a trekkie?

  • I would love to see Pearl Jam do a cover of this... Think about it.

  • i love this song.RIP

  • I read your comment the day Dan died. Milton456 and just want to say: Grow up. I have a friend that has prostate cancer and I am STILL a big fan of Dan.

  • His wonderful music stands for itself. On his website someone wrote "it is hard to imagine heaven, without Dan there". So very true. To the Morning (from Home Free) may very well be the most beautiful song ever written and recorded...if you have not listened to it, do. Dan wrote and recorded it at either 17 or 18 yrs old...what a magical talent

  • rip dan ...... too bad this guy had to die so young

  • i feel the same way everybody

  • god the guy was a ledgend.

  • RIP Dan.......I was disappointed that he didn't make more videos in his career, cuz he looked like he had fun doing this one at least! Guess he didn't think it was really necessary.........he let his great music speak for itself.

  • I also long for more videos of Dan's. Funny, I always thought there would be more time to see him in concert. I took for granted that such an amazingly talented and beautiful soul would always be around making music.

  • I second your comment Iryshgyrl. To be able to see him in concert just one more time, man...but at least we still have all his songs, and these wonderful videos. Thanks to all that posted them.

  • I love this video! It's great to see Dan so upbeat and having fun. I think that people have had a misconception that he was this very serious, melancholy person. From what I understand, the opposite is true, he was a truly happy and well-adjusted individual who used all of his gifts to their full potential. I love that little eyebrow thing at the end! Thanks for sharing your amazing gifts with us, Dan! RIP

  • thankyou Dan....never far from out hearts

  • goodspeed dan

  • Actually they say Godspeed, but I agree with you.

  • Why do the good always die young?!

    Rest in Peace Angel Dan....

  • I always used to think that bass guitar player looked like John Mellencamp. Can you see the similarities in their appearance?

  • Dan, you are the man! We miss you!

  • You're an angel Dan ..and we'll certainly miss your kind words ..this song is very moving..

  • Rest in peace Mr. Fogelberg.

  • Yes! You rip on that White Penquin Danny! Miss you brother! See ya soon.

  • Ditto.

  • I always liked this song and now I like it even better RIP,Dan

  • Dan,,,your songs will always have meaning and character! Your music is so unique. You will be missed! RIP, Dan!

  • I am still a big fan. RIP Dan. The oain is over.

  • Another legend gone too soon. May your weary soul rest in peace, Dan.

    1951-2007

  • He just passed away due to cancer. Great loss to the music world.

  • I liked this song, "She Don't Look Back", and "Missing You" (how appropriate this last song is now, sadly!)

  • My Dan favorites: #5 - Lonely In Love #4 - this song #3 - Face The Fire #2 - The power Of Gold (with Tim Weisberg) #1 - Love Gone By. Mostly known for his ballads, Dan could really rip it up on the guitar - that's the side of him I liked most. I had no idea he had prostate cancer.

  • Truly a great loss! I can remember doing my term papers in the 80's listening to tapes of DF until the early hours of the morning. When I came out to California, in 1985 it was the first concert I saw a the old Irvine Meadows - Such a long time ago but just yesterday really - Take care my memories of yesterday - may God be with you! RJ

  • R.I.P Dan. Your music will always rock, and live on. Sad to see someone like you go at a very young age. Peace be with you.....

  • I just found out he passed. It hits hard he was one of my favorites. Something so authentic about him.

    R.I.P. Dan

    :-(

  • I haven't heard this song since the 80's...but it all came back with one listen. It was a great time in my life...thanks for being part of my soundtrack Dan! RIP!

  • Man, the memories of this song. One of my first guy/girl trysts happened to this song. Thank You Dan.

  • Yeah, its one of my favorites. Dan rocks out on this song.

  • RIP Dan.
