  • I bet the only reason why 16 people disliked this is because it took place in North Korea. This video is nothing short of spectacular! Perhaps those who disliked this are jealous that they will never see anything like this video live in their home countries.

  • You're just seeing the lucky 20,000 kids that have a job and being fed. How about the 2 Millions starving North Korean kids suffering?

  • I will definitely watch Arirang as soon as the two Koreas reunified.

  • That is sick, hoping to go to North Korea now in the near future:D

  • as a kid and a parent of a kid that joins this freak show you must feel so much pressure..

  • @Liefssmarije Yes - check out the excellent documentary movie A State Of Mind (astateofmind dot co dot uk) which follows a girl and her family as they prepare for the Mass Games. One thing that comes across is how proud they are of what they do.

  • @Liefssmarije you are a freakshow brainwashed macdonalds western nato moneyfat, call it a freakshow to a north koreans face, you pseudo-brave internet pseudo-hero. Racist-fascist right-wing reactionary hate person. Go and do some salutes to your fascist fuhrers.

  • @Dklonmy omg excuse me but why al the bashing? seriously act like your age you stupid. seriously what kind of sick minded person are you i think you are a pseudo-brave internet pseudo-hero. i just made a statement because i feel bad for those kids that have to do al this kind of things. And im in no way a fascist how can you just call someone like that? you sickminded person i guess youre the one that is brainwashed and that's all i wanna say dont spend to much times on freaks like you.

  • I guess when you do not have food to feed your people and they fact the Communist goverment controls EVERY aspect of their lives including their minds, you have to something like this to keep their minds off of revolting against another fat ass dictactor!

  • Most North Koreans must be very athletic. Surely that dictatorship do train their own people to become their robots. Read the book "The Giver" and see how it compares to North Korea today.

  • sick bullshit.. this insane motherfuckers at the goverment must leave the country! because of them theire people are suffering and dying. stop this communist, crazy psychos! bomb them away god damn.. everyone who likes this video is a brainwashed, dumb piece of shit!

  • Are they doing the same show every year?

  • @PaganiniVariations Most years, yes. They had a few years during the famine where it didn't happen.

  • This makes a super bowl half time show look low grade

  • DPRK-Hightech - the HCD, Human Cardboard Display! I wonder if the dear leader has one for his bedroom too, hehe.

  • happy bday mr DICK tator

  • I wish they could run our airports!

  • it took me several views to figure out that the round things at 5:30 were eggs.

    hot DAMN NKorea. hot damn....

  • Revolting.

  • We should write a letter to GodPresident (tm) Kin to include Caramelldansen in the Mass Games.

  • Death I only see death and slaves marching at owner's whip

  • Why waste money on Large LED screen or Projectors~ since they have more man power! >:D awesome *Note: N Korea when they clap hands they prefer to do it softly unlike in S. Korea

  • Amazing.

  • FAKE, it was done with mspaint

  • Capitalism, Communism, whatever. North Korea's neither capitalist nor communist, so I don't imagine that's a question that applies here. The point is that this right here is a palpable example of uncanny evil. We all know the horrors Kim Jong Il and his family have perpetrated on the North Korean people; the giddy shock one feels seeing this is the human soul trying to tell us that we're seeing something truly wrong.

  • Make me feel so ronery

  • I'd like to kill Kim Jong Il with my own hands. This is my wish the most stronger of my life.

  • What's it like in N.K?

I mean...Do you feel weird or anything being there? I think my whole way of thinking would rebel if I was there.

  • @Jeshikun -- The picture from the video is not of Kim Jong-Il (The "father" or current "General" of North Korea), but his father, Kim Il-Sung, who died in 1994 but was declared permanent "President" of the country, even though he is dead.

  • 4:42 the holly ejaculation

  • It's incredibly amusing how their pictures of Kim Jong Il look nothing like him. Is he really 98?!

  • amazing, vision group vs individual ????

  • It's so amazing and beautiful. They are so talented and it certainly shows what people can accomplish if they will work together. But it's terribly tragic that all of this is done in worship to a crazy dictator as propaganda to further brainwash them. The thing is, a desire to put on a good show will never inspire this kind of performance, only passionate worship and adoration (even if misplaced or undeserved) can generate this kind of unity. Americans could learn something from this.

  • @carolchill While amazing, this is not what is an accomplishment of "people working together." This is an accomplishment of people being forced to practice up to 20 hours a day, year after year. These people are starved, overworked, and beaten into place to make sure that they don't mess up. And God forbid if you did mess up, as not only you are punished, but your entire extended family. I really don't see what you think Americans can learn from this.

  • @carolchill I dont think you realize that these people are forced into this. They are trained by the whip if you get what I mean

  • Batshit crazy leader, but damn.... if that isn't the most incredible display I've ever seen.

I wonder if the choreographers get shot if the standard isn't up to Kim Jong Il's liking?

Shame that over 90%+ of the population live in poverty and fear otherwise I'd of enjoyed this.

  • King Jong-il is secretly Busby Berkeley.

  • This is the creepiest thing I've ever seen. The kids look like toys. What a facade

  • hella good halftime show

  • People are amazing. Governments are not.

  • This kind of precision and mass creativity would be absolutely mindblowing if it were not so heartbreaking and tragic. Say what you want but those people are slaves. Maybe they don't live in cages, but for the way they are utterly brainwashed and cut off from anything that remotely resembles freedom of speech, action, or even thought, they are slaves, to their despicable government. It is pure evil to chalk that kind of human rights violation up to "an ignorant view of their culture."

  • @dsokoll9184

    you said it all right...

  • VIVEMENT QUE CE PEUPLE SOIT LIBRE!!!

  • toward's the end of this video you can see the stadium looks empty. Also the people who is taping this, sounded like they were the only ones clapping. No one eles was showing any appreciation to the hard work and efforts these young koreans were doing. Sad for the N Korean people.

  • @drrushfan81 As with everything in North Korea, it's not that simple. The stadium was largely empty apart from the "prime" seats where we were sat with all the foreigners (mostly Chinese, but also Westerners) paying 50 Euros each to get in. Most of the Korean spectators are presumably senior party members. Ordinary citizens don't get near the place. But we were not the only ones clapping - that is my camera's puny microphone. Everybody watching that show fully appreciated what they were seeing.

  • these games reinforce the views of the state.

  • What for???????????

  • This makes a "Superbowl Halftime Show" look like crap.

    What a parade...incredible feats accomplished.

  • oh my god!

as much as i hate the north korean government you gotta admire these people...

    such perfection and effort!

damn!! it's all so precise and accurate..not just on the performers but on the "video wall" too....i wonder how many cards those kids have in their chairs...

their performances are so world class!! it can beat america's synchronized performances if only north korea was open to the world

  • Phenomenal what human coordination and planning can do.

  • 1 person = 1 pixel

  • These kids would make a good color guard.

  • Poor kids.

  • I guess if a kid screws up, it gives a whole new meaning to "dead pixel", eh?

  • fuk..this shit is sick.

  • 1:24 omg

  • I think my favorite part was the eggs. Both adorable and hilarious.

  • Amazing as always. The Mass Games are an amazing show of what humans can do. With all of the amazing synchronization and the results of the hard work for the group instead of the individual, the Mass Games really do a great job of representing the ideals of Communism.

I don't think America could ever put on a display like this because it doesn't have the same group mentality that North Korea has. Americans focus on the person, while North Korea focuses on the group instead of the person.

  • @00Petulia00 Yeah for a group of free people do to something requires some kind of rational reason that makes sense to all of them but you can get slaves to do anything.

  • @ketsan Are you sure they're slaves? Remember these people are extremely honored to do this, and their families to get rewards for having children that participate in the Mass Games. You should keep in mind that people in the west have just as much of a skewed view of North Koreans as they have of us. We're just as brainwashed and deluded as they are.

  • @00Petulia00 Uh huh so you're placing Western Civilisation on an equal footing to North Korea? You might want to look at the chaos and discord endemic to Western Civilsation before deciding we're all brain washed.

Yup I'm sure they're slaves, they may be happy to be slaves but none the less, they are slaves. They have no right to choose or even question their government and live in a state controlled media bubble aka slavery.

  • 3:45 its sounds like they are saying UNFAIR UNFAIR

  • Try getting 20,000 kids raised with iPhones shoved in their face to do that..

Both communism and capitalism make you dependent on the state, the only difference being that communism, the paper they use to control you with is on the wall and in capitalism it's in your pocket.

  • @lepopedeeruke your instinct is right, but you are going after the wrong enemy. "Capitalism" does not make you dependent on the state, at least not true capitalism. Mixed-economies, such as the current United States political system, certainly have this effect, yes...but the evil is in the government, not in the capitalism :)

  • @lepopedeeruke please do not compare,,, its offensive.

i can travel anywhere, work where ever i want, live where ever i want, talk about wherever i want, choose my "leader"...

crap state of robot people,,, really sad.

  • @lepopedeeruke @20,000 you say? Try make my class of 20 pay attention to me for more than 20'

  • @lepopedeeruke hahahahahah! Ok if it`s all the same, why don`t you go live in North Korea!!!

basically you`re right but it`s not that simple! Life is hundred times harder than in any Western state!

  • @lepopedeeruke Personally, I'm all for a balance of both!

  • @lepopedeeruke you should life one year in NK under the conditions of a normal farmer ;) then u would think different of capitalism... you would praise it! yes not everything is good at capitalism.. but right now, its the form of politics, which are the best for theire peoples. so if you think communism is so great, why dont you go to china? or NK? come on.. leave the "bad capitalist countrys". and if you dont think so then INVENT SOMETHING BETTER! or dont complain! im serious.

  • long live his godhead, the beloved leader - his haircut may be the best in the world !

  • I found it! Here is the solution to Communism:

    /watch?v=xykjtGasuBA

    :D

  • I like how something amazing like this gets 60000 views while one so called "youtube star" can get millions of views per video.

  • it must be crazy to live on the moon

  • Daaaaaamn. You make one mistake... GULAG.

  • 2 + 2 = 5

  • VERY SAD TVT

  • OH MY GOD THE CHILDREN....(T_T)

  • All performers and no spectators. For what audience are all these people rehearsing so hard for so many days? All for the purpose of advertising the "superiority" of the North Korean society. If they were so confident about themselves, they wouldn't have to go this length to advertise.

  • The day Kim Jong-Il dies there MUST be help these people, who would most certainly reject any aid from western powers because theyve been brainwashed to think so their whole lives.

  • How much money goes into this versus, oh, I dont know, feeding the people of North Korea, one of the hungriest nations in the world? How much money gets diverted to this or the military that can be used to help one of the most vulnerable countries in regards to national disasters? How many of these children are abused in the making of this?

  • It's free. Go to prison or wave a flag!

  • Wow. Amazing O___O

  • this is what we call TEAM WORK... it really really enjoy ^_^ from Philippines

  • this is the best robot display I have ever seen.

  • that was the coolest thing ive ever seen children do

  • Yes it was the coolest thing I have ever seen too. I really admire the North Korean.

  • North Korea is sick.

  • it's all going to be radioactive one day

  • dang that jump rope was pretty cool.

  • It only looked so good because the North Korean government would have killed anyone that said they didn't want to do it. And im sure anybody that messed up during the presentation got beat.

  • Welcome to Matrix.... sry but for me this is sick.

  • THIS

    IS

    SO

    CRAZY...

  • Orientals - Japanese, Koreans & Han Chinese are some of the most discipline people in the world. It probably has to do with the common roots they share in Confucianism & Buddhism. The prosperity of Oriental Asian countries like Japan, South Korea, Hong, Kong, Taiwan & Singapore plus the rapid rise of China says also about their shared values. It's a pity about North Korea... it has so much potential to be like the South if not for it's authoritarian dictator.

  • Vietnamese are Orientals too but they can't not do anything cool like this :( They are all farmers.

  • poor kids....that's crazy....

  • Really Nice!!!!!!!!! what a beautyfull show!!! I don t think is something similar all around the world..

  • Very cool show - wouild be awsome to see in person!

  • OMG THOSE EGGS R GONNA DOMINATE US!!

Seriously though, the jump rope one was pretty cool

  • We're all going to die by the hands of billions of asian warrior children.

  • [insert obligatory "Too bad this country's got a mentalist dictator as its ruler" remarks here]

The ground choreography is breathtakingly amazing, yet I was even more memerized by the human video wall. It's just ... wow.

*Now it gets a bit sureal*

Dancing eggs!! lol A BIT sureal?

  • This footage of North Korea is breathtaking.

I read some nationalists posts on here who believe that the USA could put on the same display. Yeah right...

Someone on here said "I am proud to be an American where at least I know I am free. " To which I would respond: You are lost. Ok? USA - the land of the conditionally free! USA - The land of tyranny and home of the slave! Quit defending the USA xenophobic racists! It is not as if the USA gives a s*** about you as a person anyhow!

  • Didi this give anyone else the chills as well...and not in a good way?

  • it is beautiful...but it makes me think, how many of those kids actually ENJOY doing that? It makes me think about how many of those kids were MADE to do that? it saddens me. to be MADE to do something, and practice long long hours for something you don't enjoy doing. oh well. IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN, WHERE AT LEAST I KNOW I'M FREE!!!!!

  • Their chains are visible. You're right, they'd get punished if they stepped out of line. But to say you Americans are free is absurd. It doesn't sound like you're aware of the mind control imposed on you through your education and media that gives you the ILLUSION of being free.

  • "ILLUSION"?? whatever.... I AM FREE!!

  • Yes, that's exactly what they want you to think. Well done.

  • Just like you Brits are free right? Watch out for all those cameras.

  • No of course we're not. And it's a good job if I said we were, your comment might have been worth making. But don't get offended man - I said Americans weren't only because of what that guy said. I wasn't singling out Americans.

  • It just begs to be said, no country is truly free, save Somalia. And even in that case, freedom is continuously infringed upon by others, thereby destroying that libertarian ideal everyone likes to believe exists. Nor do I think either the United States or Britain can make a claim for being freer than the other. Just degrees of freedom.

  • Good comment

  • I think they all enjoy it, they are proud to be a North Korean, a communist.

  • You really are clueless, aren't you? North Korea is not something to admire. These games are spectacular, yes, but that still does not make up for what the North Korean government has done and still do to their people.

  • I know what you mean :( but I admire all kids in that stadium, they work hard and deserve to be admired.

  • They worked hard because if they said no, or messed up severely, their family would have been sent to a 'reform' camp to be tortured and worked to death.

  • yeah.. they'd be murdered if they didn't do it.. and they're the 'fortunate' ones. Most of the north korean people live in rural areas and are starving.

  • North Korea - The only place on earth where parades and dancing are valued more than anything else.

  • unreal

  • wow look at those kids..if you compare them with the kids here in the US..

    theyre not fat.

  • Of course they're not fat. Just nine years ago millions of people starved to death there, and I don't believe they have enough food for people today either.

  • well atleast they're not overweight.

  • Comment removed

  • It's like the North Korean government is parading its prettiest citizens around as though they are dogs at a show. disgusting.

  • STOP GAPING PEOPLE! Those mass-gamers are trained under inhuman condition. This is not great... it's gruesome.

  • I understand your point. But out.... out of all things done under inhumane conditions... can you think of one with such a magnificent result?

  • AWESOME

  • This opening really surpass the Beijing olympic games especially the video wall!

Its a pity that this regime its only interest is in his army, parades and weapons and not for the people's well beings.

This regime makes his people think that their leader is a God!

  • I wonder if all the people in the prison camps who...*gasp*...dare speak ill of Dear Leader...wonder what they think? Of course, we'll never know. Good little communists here...they better be great. Or else.

  • now compare that to the audience at a WWF or Nascar event. :S

  • Communism is great

  • Juche isn't communism. Communism is based on where everyone is equal. The DPRK Juche Regime is based on the philosophy of "Up Yours, World!"... Basically it's saying we can do everything ourselves, so they neglect and isolate themselves from the rest of the world. Of course it's impractical, but it's quite different from communism.

  • Das ist der wahre Triumph des Willens.

  • 오!~ 이거는 정일이 횽아꺼냉!~

  • wow... look at how synchronize they are!

  • Imagine holding the wrong card o_0

This is all for a birthday celebration? Amazing. But when I think of the totalitarian aspects of it, I feel sad. They're like robots.

  • huge staduim

  • its the biggest in the world

  • Indianapolis Speedway is

  • Nope, look it up, its the May Day Stadium in the DPRK

  • @SFC990 Largest in the world. Capacity - over 150 000

  • entertainment for the elite and state government oppression

  • I feel that, but then how much does it cost to go to a pro sporting event? Not so egalitarian, now is it?

  • As impressive as this is, I believe the Chinese are still better at this than the North Koreans.

  • I don't think your comment is warranted. The Chinese prepared for the Olympic games as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Mass Games occur every year. They are a lot more limited in resources/technology.Don't be stupid.

  • I'm not being stupid- because I wasn't merely referring to the Olympics.

And what's the limited resources gotta do with it? We're talking about absolute terms. We're not playing golf- you don't get a handicap.

If China is more superior in this field, then China is more superior in this field- no ifs or buts. None of this..."Oh if North Korea had as many people/resources as China...blah blah blah..."

  • Actually, China during the olympics opening mentioned that they see North Korea as a model for performing perfectly with coordination. Even though I'm Korean, this is coming from Chinese. I doubt the way I wrote is how they said it though.

  • The lack of technology used in these games makes it shit.

  • Hah... a lot of "brainwashes" were used in the comments, and I wonder if people believe that the whole residents of North Korea can only be classified as the brain washers and the brainwashed. There's nothing that simple in life, right?

  • Not even really saying I'm Anti-DPRK but I would like the know what sort of penalty is for messing something up there.

  • i've watched the Arirang 2008, the show is more or less the same, maybe it's just the same every year

  • Yeah, I think it's pretty much the same every year. They just tweak it here and there, add some bits, remove others. It used to be a LOT more anti-US I believe.

  • you where there?

  • fucking awesome and beutiful, what a synchronization

  • 이 놀라운 the 헌신과 실천이 가져야합니다!

  • I hear that Russia is letting North Korea pay off old war debts by hosting a N.Korean Gulag camp in some secret location in Siberia. Wonder how many of these people´s fathers are up there slaving away?

  • the beijing olympics set the entire olympic standard to the next level

  • The Bejing games were as much disgrace to the olympic idea as were the Berlin 1936 and Moscow 1980 games.

Olympic games hosted by repressive totalitarian regime, how pathetic.

  • and all the cost thay could have bought alot of food

  • this really makes the opening and closing ceremonies of b. olympics look stupid...

    kinda scary though...

  • please try not to be impressed by this. The only message conveyed by the Massive Games is that there is massive unemployment in N.Korea. Given the amount of mindless busy work that goes on there, it isn't amazing or spectacular. Just sad that so much effort is being wasted where so much is needed.

  • OMG, that's even worse than the opening ceremony in Beijing!

They act like robots or clones.

  • Omigosh your so rude! Beijing's was a success! Even the media says it was worth its cost.

  • if USA or any other european country where the ones who did that AMAZING opening ceremony, you cinic egocentric liar would say the same

  • always a pleasure to watch this kind of performance but i still feel kinda sorry for those kids...i mean, think of all the pressure they were probably under when they were practicing and performing...nontheless, wonderful~

  • Whatever a person's opinion is of the North Korean government, this visual spectacle is fantastic, and as far as I know, no one else in the world can duplicate this effort. A pleasure to watch.

  • totally agree. it's an incredible spectacle, a 'human wonder of the world', from possibly the weirdest country on the planet

  • You all think North Korea is so bad. You could make a video of the U.S. that looks just as bad as the North Korean ones.

  • how can that be possible?!

  • LOL 0:29-0:33

it should say "that's 20 000 schoolchildren FORCED to hold up cards.."

  • DO they get kill if they made a mistake?

  • Brainwashed just so one head of state can enjoy himself. Think of all the hard work they all did and for what?

  • well i enjoyed it too, so that's me and Kim Jong Il for a start

  • holy shit amazing

  • I want to live in this utopia

  • go on google video and watch a documentary on north korea, its one of the worst places to be.

  • and you're basing this conclusion on the fact that you have seen a video? do you have any relatives in north korea? have you ever been to the country? have you ever SEEN the country from china?

  • i mean their way of life and how everyone seems to worship that leader guy. Not what it looks like.

  • so the way they worship kim il sung and kim jong il makes it the worst place on earth? how would who they worship affect YOU? it's just like a religion. they hear all these good things about this being, so they worship him. BFD.

  • Why not
