If we had to invade Japan we would have killed MILLIONS of Japanese and lost many thousands of Allied Troops. Also, following a bloody invasion and conquest we would have shown no mercy to post-war Japan. We would not have rebuilt their industry and most assuredly would have hung Hirohito. The Atom Bomb was a Godsend to the Japanese people...
@Jonesdude666. And furthermore, it is just bloody stupid for any tacticians to show off its secret weapon to its opponent (it is simply a childish act) without some extreme circumstances and demand. Try to think how an educated adult would think and you will understand how silly your reason for US using the A-bombs sounds.
@Jonesdude666. Sick or not, the reality is that throwing two A-bombs onto Japan was a necessarily measure to ensure its Fascist and Imperial government would never be able to wage such a terrible war again. Facts are just stubborn things.
@Jonesdude666. Please don't tell me to check the facts when you barely read what I said. Japanese government asked for a ceasefire and did not offer unconditional surrender. They wanted to negotiate peace, like the Wehrmacht's anti-Hitler faction in Germany, where they can make demands on terms. Without unconditional surrender, you can't guarantee the demilitarization of Japan, prosecution of its war criminals, end of its occupation of foreign soil and preventing it from waging war again.
What's the point of the question? Did Japanese Imperial government and Emperor want to surrender before the bombs? No! Would Japan and US both suffer higher casaulities, especially civilians, with invasion of Japan than what the two nukes had done? Quite likely. Why? From precedence in Okinawa and Saipan, IJA would force its women and children to either take arm or commit suicide. So the decision was superior in both faculties (morality and practicality) than invasion. What else do you want?
@TKKTism check ur facts dood ... Japan had already asked the U.S. for a ceasefire through the soviet embassy. SU did give that msg to Truman. He just ignored it cuz he wanted to show the Balls of the United States and nuke a few cities, to show the russians their place.
Calling nuking civilians "morally ok" ist just sooo sick. There's no difference to 9/11. In fact Hiroshima and Nagasaki were far more severe cuz of the sheer amount of ppl who died.
The Japanese wanted the Americans to think that invasions of the Home Islands would be too costly in lives, so the Americans would opt for something else.
What was Stalin's reply to Truman about the new Bomb? He said he hoped it would be put to good use against Japan.
@8899rani U can rationalize mass murder of innocent ppl all you want.
Following the same logic: 9/11 was right, because Al Qaida tried to force the united states to surrender, without having to attack america and killing millions of ppl???????
9/11 was most certainly not right. But if you judge Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be just, then you have to apply the same principle elsewhere :-)
But I guess u won't do that. So better overthink ur position.
WTF? Are you kidding me? What a racist, infantile, stupid asshole!
If Al Quaida takes down the twin towers by the same logic (muslim lives are precious) they are terrorists, but targeting civilians only and then nuking them into oblivion and condemning hundreds of thousands of ppl to a slow and painful death is just???
@rima110 During World War II, the Second Army and Chugoku Regional Army were headquartered in Hiroshima, and the Army Marine Headquarters was located at Ujina port. The city also had large depots of military supplies, and was a key center for shipping.
@thcallander It was a city not a military base. Every city at war in the world had military and supplies in them. The harbor was was not used for shipping anymore.
@USSWISCONSIN64 according to Macarthur and Eisenhower, operation downfall was unnecessary. The only thing keeping Japan from surrendering was the Allied proclamation at Potsdam. If Truman would have proposed the surrender terms that were signed on 8/14/45 many historians believe the war would have ended before the Russian entrance. Truman wanted to show off the new weapon to Russia, to persuade them into complying in europe. Please don't call me names, unless you can back your claim.
Most Americans base their opinions on Truman's fabricated justification that,"It saved 500,000 American lives". This was intended to please the American people. They still teach propaganda from 1945 in schools today. You will be shocked if you look at the events from spring to aug 15 '45 The gov never wanted to end the war to save American lives. The 2 biggest motives motives was to test the atomic power against cities and human beings, and demonstrating to Russia and world the power we had.
YOU CANT COMPARE ANYTHING TO THIS. THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC WAY OF EXTERMINATION. the fact that these weapons were developed and USED gave the possibility FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER,THAT EVERY LIVING ON THIS PLANET COULD BE DESTROYED WITH A PUSH OF A BUTTON!!!!!!. America not only mass murdered thousands of people but planted the seed for any other country to use nuclear weapons for their OWN just cause. HARRY TRUMAN IS THE GREATEST WAR CRIMINAL!!! AMERICA SHOULDN'T PLAY god.
@Frsng1 palin lost him the election...........he should have picked someone (male or female) about the same age as palin but with less glitz and controversy.
Whether Harry Truman should be considered a “War Criminal” for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan or not (with good arguments!). Google for:
"THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ATOMIC BOMBS" by Bill Whittle which is published on the May 1, 2009 on pajamasmedia com (it's a ~16 Min video plus written comments & discussions).
let me give u a different scenario then. your son is forced to go to war and DIE in his teens. because your president didnt want to bomb a country and end it all even tho that country was the one to provoke the attack AND they provoked it wile deceiving america with notions of peace lets not forget that. Truman didnt kill the children of japan. who ever ordered the strike on pearl harbour killed the children of japan.
A soldier dying is a fact a parent has to face....innocent civilians who had nothing to do with the war being attacked deliberately is a different matter.
@rima110 theres is no way my son can get a letter saying he must join the army and become a soldier and then turn around and tell me we are goin to send ur son to die rather than dropping abomb and killing the enemy civilians. my son was a civilian too until u forced him to become a soldier so therefore u must do what ever it takes to keep him alive bcuz it wasnt his choice to be a soldier. japan couldve surrendered before hiroshima they choose to fight putting its people in danger
I get what your saying...but dropping nuclear bombs on villages/cities in order to win the war seems really fucked up to me...if that ever happened to the US, i can't imagine Americans condoning it.
Yes, they started it, and many of our guys died. The question is, was it right to bomb a civilian town. Its sorta like, if a serial killer Bob murders a member of Mike's family, then Mike warns Bob to turn himself in to the cops, and when Bob doesn't Mike blows up Bob's house with some of his family, when Bob is away.
Mike's action are understandable. But not excusable.
We didn't nuke an army/fleet. We nuked civilian towns.
I love this country, but this act is a stain on our history.
Sure, some troops, but it was an industrial town, its population was overwhelmingly civilian.
Kind of like Stalingrad, an industrial city strategically important in the war. Goering's bombing of it was considered at Neuremburg as a war crime. If Nazis could nuke it, they would, and we'd consider that an atrocity.
I am curious, in your opinion, was there ANY act EVER of US Military personnel that you would consider immoral?
@vdizhoor i have no idea. i'm only 15 and i don't know the full US Military history. we did give them a perfectly legitimate warning and they didn't care. Besides, are the lives of people in the army any less valuable than the lives of civilians that aren't actively involved in fighting? Civilians play a huge role in warfare without ever picking up a weapon. I do find your opinion interesting though it differs from my own.
Oh, I agree. Soldiers are not less valuable, but they signed up for war, they know the risk. The notion of "good" wars is absurd. Its all a big tragedy and shames our species. The key word is "war crime". If targeting unarmed civilian population is a war crime, then both the Allies and the Axis have their hands dirty. Be it u-boats sinking civilian transports or firing V-2s at London. Or us nuking Hiroshima. Maybe it is understandable and logical but dishonorable. My 2 c.
@vdizhoor Hiroshima was not a town it was a city, and it was also a major industrial city for the Japanese war machine so there was strategic value there. Nagasaki was also a major military port as well so there was strategic value to that as well.
@MrDev809 It doesn't matter whether or not it had strategic importance. Any target in war has a strategic or tactical importance of some sort. Its the disregard for civilian lives in obtaining your goals which is deplorable. Part of being "civil"ized is valuing human life and civilian life if it comes to war. This action would be condemned as war crime had the US lost. Japanese military atrocities do not justify our own.
@vdizhoor you are trying to use 21st century logic for a 1940s scenereo. Ask any american, or our allies from that peroid who "are still alive today" if it was the right thing to do......they will all say "yes". Very few (if none) at the time thought it was the wrong thing to do. Just like the way the North ravaged the Southern states in the civil war with a scorched earth policy.....people just wanted the war to end.....peroid
A couple of japanese kids came up to me when I took a trip to Hiroshima, and asked "was it necessary to bomb this city?" I said No, just so that the kids wouldn't think how horrible I was... but my honest reaction was "yes". I would have told them in Japanese that it would make sense if they looked at history... I think they made the question to broad to "yes" or "no", but how else could they have ended WWII?
To Tibbets crew who are still alive.....Nice job boys! Would loved to been on your crew on that day!! You guys were the hero's on that GLORIOUS DAY!! Putting an end to that uncivilized hateful empire at all costs. Werner Gruhl estimates China's war losses at 12,392,000 civilian dead due to the Japanese occupation. Japan did not deserve ANY mercy. They want an apology from America?? Okay, HERE IT IS...I'm sorry that Japan started the war. For the good of the civilized world , WE ENDED IT.
Sorry, but civilians are not always 'innocents". "Civilians" who produced munitions, weapons, etc or grew food for the military or otherwise provided material support to the enemy war effort were legitimate targets of the war effort. How fucking naive do you have to be to think it is possible to fight a war without inflicting civilian casualties. Truman's first responsibility was to the American soldiers fighting the war, not to the Japanese civilians propping up the war machine.
So why don't you enlighten us on the subject, smart guy. Why don't you share some of your overwhelming genius with us.
It is fucking hilarious when some pathetic douchebag from a shitty, irrelevant country reads a couple of comments on youtube and then claims all Americans are clueless in regards to WWII.
Just proved that in what way asshole? I didn't make a single fucking comment that involved any knowledge of history or geography. I commented on your ridiculous assertion that a few stupid comments on youtube is somehow evidence that all Americans are idiots.
As for "U.S. youth" performing below the western average on education, that sure hasn't prevented the United States from becoming the most powerful nation in history, has it?
And whether I have heard of "your country" is not germane to a discussion of its relevance. It would be shitty and insignificant even if I were Rand fucking McNally.
As unnoticed as a youtube comment may become, there is no right or wrong - there is only a relative right or wrong. We create morality with the innate human feeling of doing good but it is also imperative that we come out on top.
Why? - A very small percentage of us will ignore the greed and self-righteousness that can come out of being conscious that you are a human being and you are fragile, and most importantly - you will die one day.
The only right answer is the answer we want to believe.
None of us had to live through WWII. Everyone wanted it over.
The usa determinied it would have cost tens of thousands of american lives to invade Japan.
The clincher for me is after the USA dropped the first bomb, Japan was asked to surrender and did not. The usa dropped leaflets to the Japanese civilans warning them they would do it again unless the japanese surrendered.
Japanese did not surrender and the USA dropped a second bomb.
The "clincher" for me is the fact the Japanese started the war and raped, pillaged, and slaughtered their way across Asia, enslaving anyone that wasn't killed during their mass-murder campaigns. I couldn't care less if they weren't given a warning by Truman. They deserved what they got. Those who try to act as if the Japanese were victims in all this are fucking pathetic. Even after the second bomb, the Japanese War council was split on whether to surrender.
@Achalel During WW2 there was no sucj thing as innocent Jap or German and it made no difference if your were in the military you were thr enemies that supplied the weapons of war to your military.
I don't know....this argument seems to me to be the standard, redundant, recycled justification for the bombing that all Americans are taught in school. My point is that any act of aggression that is this indiscriminate and this massive is wrong, no matter who is the perpetrator of it. People in this country love to point the finger at Hitler and say he was evil.....but he never used chemical weapons on us, and he had the chance. So what does that make us?
@titowasagoodman1980 U need to read that 6 million Jews gas to death with Cyanide. Japs sprayed Chinese cities Bubonic Palgue, Anthrax + Cholera were spray on Chinese cities. Jap weatherballons targeted Western USA with mice + rats infected with Bubonic Plague. Japs gave Chinese children candy + food laced with Anthrax + Tyhoid. Japs used USA POWS for vivesection + autopsies on living US Soldiers. U should watch "Unit 731" on Utube to see how evil the Japs were + make U aware how ignorant U R.
I think a lot of water had flowed under the bridge of hatred between the US and Japan by this stage of the war and things had gotten out of control. Dropping the atom bombs on Japan was simply and act of rage against the Japs, and I think if the Japs had Atom Bombs they would have done the same to us. They were already using chemical and Biological weapons against China and were torturing civilain detainees and POWs. They were hardly innocent in any of this madness.
just watch PEARL HARBOR movie. so you can understand why they dropped atomic bomb.
imma filipino, and for me TRUMAN did the right decision. and Gen. McArthur is the best General in the world. he help the philippines to fight the japanese. because the japs are trying to capture the philippines.
@precutkujemdodana I see ur another low-life Serbian whose most likely commited a few war crimes with ur Croation buddies. All of U people in the Balkans R bottom feeding asswipes. Most of U fought for the Nazis or the Commies it would have been better ethnically clease the whole area with Nukes. Do U know what the European dream is? Thast for every Serbain to shove a Croation up your ass with a grenade set with a ten second timers after U cross back to the Serbain or Croaitan border, FU!
The National Archives in Washington contain US government documents that chart Japanese peace overtures as early as 1943. None was pursued. A cable sent on May 5, 1945 by the German ambassador in Tokyo and intercepted by the US dispels any doubt that the Japanese were desperate to sue for peace, including "capitulation even if the terms were hard".

Though this is inevitably accurate, I rather have 200 military men dead that 100 civilian death! I'm not morbid at all, but military men are willing to die----most civilian's are not.
"Some people say as much as 250,000 American lives." This just shows how McCain does not care for the Japanese. A lot easier for him to say this than if it had been the other way around and Japan had dropped two A-Bombs on the US
@szaki And with the japanese competitive military structures they were able to build some radiological bombs? Their nuclear program suffered from the same problem the germans did, and in japan it was even worse as the nation was even less industrialised. Plus they had to send every capable person off to defend Manchukuo. Who do you think was supposed to develop and build those bombs, when they weren't even able to build the freighters they needed to get their supplies out of the east indies?

@szaki The same they wanted from the Nazis. There was no way those regimes could be allowed to survive the war.
BTW, the I-400s were supposed to bomb the Panama Canal. They carried conventional bombs that's all. The Japanese never got anywhere near even building a dirty bomb during the war.
That was the original intent for the I-400's when they were built!
By the end of the war, Japan loosing it, they were using any thing for kamikaze missions, even the the largest battle ship, Yamato was sacrificed at Okinawa.
Japan had an active nuclear program.
Also, speculation, some of the nuclear material was transfered from Germany to Japan by U-boats.
One U-boat ,U-234 was captured by the US Navy at the end of the war, eyewitnesses saying, lead boxes were loaded on to it .
@szaki The germans had a lot of secret stuff going on, but it never really went anywhere far enough for military application. Theoretically they could habe built one, but they never had the industrial capability at that stage of the war. And the Allies knew that. Even if they would have detonated one nuclear device it would just have made the allies more furious and wouldn't have changed the outcome of the war.
@szaki they had a nuclear programm, but as I said, same problems as the germans. Plus it never got beyond the lab stage. The US devoted their whole industrial might to this project - what did the japanese and germans do? They build a small lab with some people. Not anywhere enough to manufacture even one radiological bomb. And even that can never be completely proven as most documents are gone. So I guess that thing falls into the territory of conspiracy theorists...
MacCain doesnt even know that Truman demanded Japan NOT TO SUE the US for its war crimes. which was a condition Japan had to accept to gain independence.
"american life is too precious" He was running for president, give him a break. I do not support McCain in any way, but I still understand why he said it.
American's are FROM other countries, we don't see our lives more precious. because we ARE the same.
Anybody that thinks the nukes weren't needed is just anti-american or ignorant to what a ground war would have done.
The nukes were the only way to get them to surrender, they were the perfect solution to scare the Empire to surrendering.
Or maybe they honestly disagree. Some believe that negotiating terms of surrender with the Japanese Parliament would have been more ethical than the wholesale and deliberate slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent women and children from Sendai to Kagoshima to force an unconditional surrender. But a negotiated surrender from an already defeated nation probably wouldn't have looked as good at election time.
You're fooling yourself.. Japan didn't even surrender until several days after the nukes were dropped. They would never surrender without knowing for sure their leader would die. That was their queen bee. America knew the only way was to show them "look, you will die if you don't surrender".
There is nothing dishonorable about that, i'm glad Japan did it. I'm sad that it took innocent peoples death to convince them, but if we killed the queen bee, the rest would never give up.
If I misunderstood your comment about "honestly disagreeing" let me know. I was replying as if it were your disagreement of the method of nukes used to force a surrender.
Actually, it was the deliberate slaughter of civilians that I object to, which has been a violation of international law since 1923.
And Japan was already preparing to surrender by June. By Japanese standards that meant hammering the American military until the U.S. was forced to negotiate terms rather than demanding abject humiliation.
And by "honestly disagreeing" I meant that believing that America should be a moral country was not necessarily a sign of an anti-American idiot.
McCain you weren't elected, thank god. American lives are precious,Y? Humanity is all equal.there isn't any difference between you and the Japanese,If they were bad, but you showed to all the world u are the worst. Now you are killing people all over the world on the name of terror. Its not war on terror, its war of Power & sources.are you on the right side?Palestine,Iraq, afghan whats going on into these countries and american says its war on terror.BULL SHIT
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"American life is too precious" WTF ? This is racism ! Truman killed thousands of people to earn global dominance for USA. He is not better than Hitler and Stalin.
Japanese had biological weapons on I-400(submarine) but didn't use it, cus it's CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. Well Americans doesn't care about humanity and use A-BOMBS.
Hitler kills jews , Truman kills japs... Thats what they do.
@Pr0wlerBG Not just american lives, japanese lives too. The Japan's war mongering leaders were to sacrifice the whole population for a fanatic ideology. Go and read a history book before you make any nonesense statements, To invade Japans main islands it would have cost only in the american side 500 000 men in casualties, and nearly 10 times more in japanese civilians. America did not start WW2, and your claims about the japs not using chemical are just ridiculous.
@Pr0wlerBG american isn't considered a race, its not racism. it would be nationalism, if anything.
Truman killed thousands, yeah.. and Japan killed about 10 million.
If Truman was no better than Hitler or Stalin, you'd be dead for saying anything about them. Stalin killed 30 million people, Hitler exterminated 10s of millions.
Truman should have been given a Nobel Peace prize for giving Japan several chances to surrender and warning civilians to leave first.
What did *Japan *Deny ? if you want to talk academically, talk specifically uneducated moron LOL
hahahah The British were okay with the Chinese because the Chinese WORKED FOR THE BRITISH REALLY HARD. Chinese helped the evil invaders for money LOL very very evil lol
nobody would deny that the Japanese army in Nanking targeted Civilians after the nationalist soldiers strating dressing as civilians and shooting Japanese soldiers. LOL
McCain does not know that the US accepted the condition that the emperor's life would be secured AFTER dropping the 2 bombs and that Japan would have surrender BEFORE the 2 bombs if the US had accepted the condition.
I agree...The A-bomb may have saved countless thousands on both sides. The Japanese would have never surrendered in a conventional war and Their entire race may have been exterminated
Children and women died. The lives that were supposedly going to be "saved" were the lives of men who DECIDED to fight for their country.Who the fuck is supposed to die in this situation?Fuck you American scum.
The A-bomb, as Senator McCain stated could have possibly saved over a quarter of a million lives, though many japanese civilians were killed in the process they were far from innocent they were trained to kill american soldiers even the women and children making the no less of a military target than any military base in japan! Good for truman the only democrat i respect!
Japan would have surrendered if the US had accepted the condition that the emperor of Japan would be secured, which the US accepted AFTER dropping the 2 bombs.
Almost all americans have been deceived by Truman's lie :Unconditional Surrender
look dont start wars ! the bomb ended the war..japan started it ! old saying here...don't start no shit and they're wont be no shit ! japan killed thousands if not millions of people..no one likes to see anyone die or citys getting bomb ..but omg -I cannot beleve you people JAPAN is wrong they started and ended it and we even rebuilt them...omg some of you poeople are off youre nut they should say sorry to US !~
Truman could have issued a warning against Japan without compromising American strike capability. Dean Achesson admitted in later years that was the case and the decision was wrong. Japs had no high altitude planes and could not intercept U.S. bombers, as in fact they did n't in Nagasaki, when they already knew about the bomb. Had the emperor Hirohito rejected the surrender offer, the crime would rest on his shoulders and not America' s. Those are the facts about the bomb.
thats the way a leader should think. A united states president should always put american lives first. its his job. the american people elected truman to protect them and he did.
then don't be surprised if the whole world hates you. the bomb killed also lots of innocent children, because of stupid people like you. a leader should think like a human not like you, an evil idiot. McCain is an asshole like you. Europe and the whole world hates him anyway, him and people like you.
did u know that Japan itslef was developing nuclear weapons? what makes you think that if they had developed them first they would refrain from annihiliating DC?
ok imagine you were one of the innocent children inhabitants of Hiroshima. Would you be agree with that decision? would you agree to die? and your whole family, too?
Ina debate, there are always two types of people: the thinkers and the feelers. The thinkers put emotion aside and think like computers, looking at numbers and statistics. The feelers, on the other hand dwell in the realm of emotion and pity. In the end, both have very different solutions. I am a thinker, and I would do what I feel is right. As I said before, the advantages of bombing outweighed the risks. The US did'nt kill without purpose, but rather did what it felt was "logical."
i think it was wrong. its not what COULD of been saved, its about what has already been done.

The 2 biggest motives motives was to test the atomic power against cities and human beings, and demonstrating to Russia and world the power we had.

let me give u a different scenario then. your son is forced to go to war and DIE in his teens. because your president didnt want to bomb a country and end it all even tho that country was the one to provoke the attack AND they provoked it wile deceiving america with notions of peace lets not forget that. Truman didnt kill the children of japan. who ever ordered the strike on pearl harbour killed the children of japan.

A soldier dying is a fact a parent has to face....innocent civilians who had nothing to do with the war being attacked deliberately is a different matter.

@rima110 theres is no way my son can get a letter saying he must join the army and become a soldier and then turn around and tell me we are goin to send ur son to die rather than dropping abomb and killing the enemy civilians. my son was a civilian too until u forced him to become a soldier so therefore u must do what ever it takes to keep him alive bcuz it wasnt his choice to be a soldier. japan couldve surrendered before hiroshima they choose to fight putting its people in danger

norwedgianawesomenes 9 months ago
Yes, they started it, and many of our guys died. The question is, was it right to bomb a civilian town. Its sorta like, if a serial killer Bob murders a member of Mike's family, then Mike warns Bob to turn himself in to the cops, and when Bob doesn't Mike blows up Bob's house with some of his family, when Bob is away.
Mike's action are understandable. But not excusable.
We didn't nuke an army/fleet. We nuked civilian towns.
I love this country, but this act is a stain on our history.
vdizhoor 10 months ago
@vdizhoor hiroshima was a military base.
PJmcfairybouncer 10 months ago
@PJmcfairybouncer
I am curious, in your opinion, was there ANY act EVER of US Military personnel that you would consider immoral?
vdizhoor 10 months ago
@vdizhoor i have no idea. i'm only 15 and i don't know the full US Military history. we did give them a perfectly legitimate warning and they didn't care. Besides, are the lives of people in the army any less valuable than the lives of civilians that aren't actively involved in fighting? Civilians play a huge role in warfare without ever picking up a weapon. I do find your opinion interesting though it differs from my own.
PJmcfairybouncer 10 months ago
@PJmcfairybouncer
My 2 c.
vdizhoor 10 months ago
@vdizhoor Hiroshima was not a town it was a city, and it was also a major industrial city for the Japanese war machine so there was strategic value there. Nagasaki was also a major military port as well so there was strategic value to that as well.
MrDev809 7 months ago
@MrDev809 It doesn't matter whether or not it had strategic importance. Any target in war has a strategic or tactical importance of some sort. Its the disregard for civilian lives in obtaining your goals which is deplorable. Part of being "civil"ized is valuing human life and civilian life if it comes to war. This action would be condemned as war crime had the US lost. Japanese military atrocities do not justify our own.
vdizhoor 6 months ago
@vdizhoor you are trying to use 21st century logic for a 1940s scenereo. Ask any american, or our allies from that peroid who "are still alive today" if it was the right thing to do......they will all say "yes". Very few (if none) at the time thought it was the wrong thing to do. Just like the way the North ravaged the Southern states in the civil war with a scorched earth policy.....people just wanted the war to end.....peroid
inkey2 4 months ago
A couple of japanese kids came up to me when I took a trip to Hiroshima, and asked "was it necessary to bomb this city?" I said No, just so that the kids wouldn't think how horrible I was... but my honest reaction was "yes". I would have told them in Japanese that it would make sense if they looked at history... I think they made the question to broad to "yes" or "no", but how else could they have ended WWII?
NDF211Gunner 10 months ago
To Tibbets crew who are still alive.....Nice job boys! Would loved to been on your crew on that day!! You guys were the hero's on that GLORIOUS DAY!! Putting an end to that uncivilized hateful empire at all costs. Werner Gruhl estimates China's war losses at 12,392,000 civilian dead due to the Japanese occupation. Japan did not deserve ANY mercy. They want an apology from America?? Okay, HERE IT IS...I'm sorry that Japan started the war. For the good of the civilized world , WE ENDED IT.
hound692 1 year ago
@Achalel

After that, they surrendered.
jojopuppyfish 1 year ago
@jojopuppyfish

This is pure propaganda, saving US soldiers life by not invading the main island!
First, Stalin declared war on Japan and was ready to invade, just a week before Nuclear bombing of Japan.
He had to be kept out!
Second, Japan was also ready to dirty bomb the US West cost with it I401-402 aircraft carrier submarines.
Japan did not surround because Hiroshima an Nagasaki, it surrounded 'cause the US excepted Japans conditions to end the war.
Germany wasn't as lucky, they had to deal with Stalin!
szaki 1 year ago
@szaki true look what Stalin did to Berlin, Seelow heights would hate to see what he would have done to the Japanese if he invaded the mainland
Sirpain1 1 year ago
@szaki And how much damage would have the THREE (!) I-400 class submarines exactly dealt?
CaptCondor 1 year ago
@CaptCondor
Each Jap I-400, aircraft carrier submarine can carry 3 airplanes, they can be lunched in 10 minutes.
Try to picture, if above LA or San Francisco, densely populated area, a few dirty bomb exploded. Radioactive send packed with explosives.
People would've die of radiation poisoning in 2 weeks.
Difference between the dirty bomb and the real atomic bomb is the bummm.
szaki 1 year ago
@szaki And with the japanese competitive military structures they were able to build some radiological bombs? Their nuclear program suffered from the same problem the germans did, and in japan it was even worse as the nation was even less industrialised. Plus they had to send every capable person off to defend Manchukuo. Who do you think was supposed to develop and build those bombs, when they weren't even able to build the freighters they needed to get their supplies out of the east indies?

@CaptCondor
Japs didn't build an atomic bomb, they war far behind the US!
But, Japs had radioactive material, so they could build dirty bombs.
Radioactive sand pact with high explosives.
Fact is, these I-400 submarines were on way to the US west cost and had the capability to drop these dirty bombs over major cities.
After the US excepted Japan's conditional surrender , these aircraft carrier submarines were called off.
War was fought on because the US wanted Japan's UN-CONDITIONAL surrender.
szaki 1 year ago
@szaki The same they wanted from the Nazis. There was no way those regimes could be allowed to survive the war.
BTW, the I-400s were supposed to bomb the Panama Canal. They carried conventional bombs that's all. The Japanese never got anywhere near even building a dirty bomb during the war.
CaptCondor 1 year ago
@CaptCondor
One U-boat ,U-234 was captured by the US Navy at the end of the war, eyewitnesses saying, lead boxes were loaded on to it .
szaki 1 year ago
@szaki The germans had a lot of secret stuff going on, but it never really went anywhere far enough for military application. Theoretically they could habe built one, but they never had the industrial capability at that stage of the war. And the Allies knew that. Even if they would have detonated one nuclear device it would just have made the allies more furious and wouldn't have changed the outcome of the war.
CaptCondor 1 year ago
@CaptCondor
The Aichi M6A Seiran ("Mountain Haze"[1]) was a submarine-launched attack floatplane designed for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
It can carry 1x torpedo or 2x 250kg bomb or 1x 850kg bomb.
Each I-400 can launch 3 of these planes.
szaki 1 year ago
@szaki they had a nuclear programm, but as I said, same problems as the germans. Plus it never got beyond the lab stage. The US devoted their whole industrial might to this project - what did the japanese and germans do? They build a small lab with some people. Not anywhere enough to manufacture even one radiological bomb. And even that can never be completely proven as most documents are gone. So I guess that thing falls into the territory of conspiracy theorists...
CaptCondor 1 year ago
@CaptCondor
Every one knew in governments, US had the Nuclear bomb, it was tested in New Mexico in July.
Japan was pushing for conditional surrender and the I-400 submarines were the cards.
It worked! After US dropping 2 bombs on Japan, had no more and the I-400's were ready to unload with dirty bombs!
Germany was also pushing for conditional surrender also, that's why Hitler fought till the last minute.
But Germany collapsed too quick.

American's are FROM other countries, we don't see our lives more precious. because we ARE the same.
Anybody that thinks the nukes weren't needed is just anti-american or ignorant to what a ground war would have done.
The nukes were the only way to get them to surrender, they were the perfect solution to scare the Empire to surrendering.
evilsinzy 2 years ago
Or maybe they honestly disagree. Some believe that negotiating terms of surrender with the Japanese Parliament would have been more ethical than the wholesale and deliberate slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent women and children from Sendai to Kagoshima to force an unconditional surrender. But a negotiated surrender from an already defeated nation probably wouldn't have looked as good at election time.
Hikikomori013 2 years ago
@Hikikomori013

@Hikikomori013

I agree...The A-bomb may have saved countless thousands on both sides. The Japanese would have never surrendered in a conventional war and Their entire race may have been exterminated
usonly101 2 years ago
You have been deceived by Trunan's life ; unconditional surrender.
It was a CONDITIONAL surrender.
The US accepted the condition AFTER dropping the 2 bombs although Japan would have surrendered if the US had accepted the condtion BEFORE the 2 bombs
tenacioustaut 2 years ago
Children and women died. The lives that were supposedly going to be "saved" were the lives of men who DECIDED to fight for their country.Who the fuck is supposed to die in this situation?Fuck you American scum.
GBallaJ 2 years ago
The A-bomb, as Senator McCain stated could have possibly saved over a quarter of a million lives, though many japanese civilians were killed in the process they were far from innocent they were trained to kill american soldiers even the women and children making the no less of a military target than any military base in japan! Good for truman the only democrat i respect!
sklob34 2 years ago
Japan would have surrendered if the US had accepted the condition that the emperor of Japan would be secured, which the US accepted AFTER dropping the 2 bombs.
Almost all americans have been deceived by Truman's lie :Unconditional Surrender

Those are the facts about the bomb.
kajamix 2 years ago
thats the way a leader should think. A united states president should always put american lives first. its his job. the american people elected truman to protect them and he did.
R2RKITO 2 years ago
then don't be surprised if the whole world hates you. the bomb killed also lots of innocent children, because of stupid people like you. a leader should think like a human not like you, an evil idiot. McCain is an asshole like you. Europe and the whole world hates him anyway, him and people like you.
