That's probably was separated Ben Folds Five from the other acts in the late 1990's. It definitely went against the typical rock scenario.

BFF was a power trio, but the string power that the band was the bass and tightly wound metal inside the body of the piano. Add the sheer brilliance of Ben's songwriting and you have musical magic on your hands.
