Salaam sis! I have 'Islam - A Short History' by Karen Armstrong. My dad bought me it even tho he's not a muslim himself. Its a good book. Not written from any biased point of view. It just concentrates on the facts and not the stereotypes. Jaye, obviously you don't know much about religion. Compassion is a central tenet of Buddhism. You'll find much wisdom in Hinduism too. Eastern religions are not them-and-us. They're inclusive. A Hindu can easily accept Jesus, or anyone else, as a holy man. Buddhism teaches non-attachment - not to let beliefs pull you out of shape. As for Christianity, read the Gospels. Jesus said we're all Children of God. Only the Christians misunderstood his message and made it divisive.

For those who don't know, the Jizya is a tax imposed on the Christians and Jews living under the protection of the Islamic state. However, it is not imposed on all Christians and Jews. It is only imposed on the men who have attained puberty. So therefore it is not imposed on the women and children. The tax is also imposed fairly and is not meant to be overburdening. Its amount is lesser than Jakat so what is your problem?

Complete protection:

Jizya tax guarantees the Christians and Jews complete protection under the Islamic state. If an enemy country attacks the Islamic country, the Islamic country has a duty to defend the Christians and Jews and the Christians and Jews are not even obliged to fight!

The bible is more violent and more stupid than the Quran, but that's no excuse.  I wish the selective peaceful verses were reflected in practice but the overwhelming majority of intolerant and violent verses seems to be winning. And the perpetrators are quoting those verses and not political explanations. Armstrong is a believer, deeply pro-religion, and making poor excuses for it.

Great Video, I have read some of Karen Armstrongs work, and overall she is pretty level headed.

She has a good outsiders understanding of Islam and recognises the criticisms people have of islam are pretty hypocritical most of the time.

Salaam cheetah. I found your video! It's very good and actually, I do like Karen Armstrong. I like the fact that she is a Christian talking about Islam because that also brings the point of view of someone who wouldn't be biased towards Islam. Hopefully it will help to dispel the incorrect and wrong ideas the West has formed about Islam...without even taking into account how violent Christianity is!
