  • You did a beautiful job not only with both horse and dog but also with the narration of this video! Keep them coming!

  • Very nice! I love the way Toby watches and then has a go himself. Clicker trained animals are so creative!

  • Your video really made me smile, you guys all have wonderful energy about you. You're an inspiration and demonstrate well the rewards of working with animals in a positive way :-)

  • Very fun video - and you speak so well! You did a great job of articulating what is going on with the animals. I clicker train my big horse and it's a lot of fun, and I also train both of my cats together, but I've never worked with two species at the same time. What fun! Again, very nicely done!

  • Very cool experimenting! I love that you can work with your dog and horse and the same time!

  • @SullivanOlssen Thanks, it was a fun day :)

  • Haha aww bless, thts the best video ever!! xx

  • @1ILUVANIMALS Thanks!

  • so cool! and you must be good with horses and dogs:)

  • Thanks! It was a super fun Christmas Eve!

  • I'm not a fan of Mr. Millan. He was sued for animal cruelty and I find his techniques to be very heavy handed. Check out Stanely Coren. He is the best trainer out there in my opinion!

It's all about calmness, knowledge and a light, proficient hand with woofs!

  • That is so funny because the words "light, proficient hands" come up in horses all the time! I will look up Stanely Coren. I will also have to look up the Millan suit. It is important to me to have the best knowledge available.

  • Well, nice to meet someone else who loves/trains critters anyways!

    Cheers!

  • I am a dog trainer but I've never trained a horse.

Are their learning capabilities and incentives similar? I see you're using treats/clicker...is this the standard for training horses as well?

  • No, CT is not common with horses. Almost everything is negative reinforcement training. I add the clicker in for play, to create curiosity and motivation, and because it helps horses learn not to mug you for treats. Usually if you have treats it is hard to keep a horse out of your pockets but the clicker helps them learn that treats come at very specific times.

  • Excellent video.

  • Thanks! We had soooo much fun. I couldn't imagine a better Christmas Eve.

  • What smart horse if this is his first time with the clicker! I'd say he has had some previous experience with shaping maybe not with a clicker but perhaps a marker word. Either way, what fun!

  • He's had some clicker work, just not with the ball :) He had had a little shaping work for picking up the canter. Thanks for your comment!

  • Great video! This is something I tried to do with my clicker trained pony the other day (though we weren't doing a training session, just messing around) and I think it's something she would love to learn. You guys always have great videos.

  • Thanks! I think of everything we do as messing around :)

  • I just trained my dog to push a ball! it was tons of fun! its adorable how shadow and tovi were taking turns.

  • Thanks! We had so much fun. It was a great way to spend Christmas eve, despite how cold it was!

  • P.S. I look forward to a video of your dog pushing the ball!

  • haha i was going to make a vid of all of his tricks today but some things came up and it never happened. darn...
