  • I know all the words to this song why did my dad have to play these songs every day and still does I love these songs but I'm just so mad that he made me listen to these songs every time we drove in the car but if I could go back in the 60s and 50s I would listen to all these songs and I would see what my dad looked like I'm not old in a 13 year old girl no joke

  • How on earth could beyonce be compared with chubby checker,She has no talent what so ever.Just shows plenty of flesh. The 20 dislikes must be beyonce fans for sure.

  • @IsraeliAncientSounds

I'll probably watch that movie. Thanks for telling me. :)

  • @johnny16534

I'm guessing it was. It seems like it how the comments describe it, and how my grandparents decribe life then.

  • @hussnfussel

That seems a lot better compared to how some boys act now.

  • My mom has this record. I used to dance to it in the basement with my sister. The 50's did good for me.

  • Excellent song

  • 17 ppl prefer to skip ;-)

  • I kind of wish I lived in the 50-60s because I would get to see what it was like compared to now a days. Oh well, you can't blame a 12 year old girl for dreaming. :)

  • @Mortal0000Intruments Nice try

  • @Mortal0000Intruments

    Dear Mortal0000Instruments

I was 11 years old in 1954 and was born in West Philadelphia, PA. I saw, heard and danced to the best rock and roll music ever made. In those days things for kids were like this.

Number 1 -Society & parents were formal & strict. Kids knew that the slightest misbehavior was cause for real trouble, We behaved well, got good grades, had a great time with the music and our boy and girl friends, and knew parents and the cops were never far away.

  • @mcgarig1 : And the police walked beats and were on on intimate terms with the people in the neighborhoods. They'd walk ya right to your house and explain the situation to your parents, who then took corrective steps. Was it REALLY better? YES, it was. ;])

  • @buzzclick500 you so right about that im a baby boomer too

  • @Mortal0000Intruments Lovely comments. I was born in 1944 became a (semi) pro musician in 1959 and am still performing. I don't envy kids today. I had the best of times! I was involved in the "Liverpool scene" in the sixties. Could it ever be any better than that?

  • @roymack1 Did you ever go to The Cavern Club? Or meet The Beatles??

  • @Mortal0000Intruments

There's that film called: "American Graffiti" . You get a glimpse of what it was like.

  • @Mortal0000Intruments, It was great

  • @Mortal0000Intruments i'll give you a hint to what it was like. Boys were clean and well groomed not a hair out of place.

  • @hussnfussel7 lol sounds very nice.i wish i lived in those times instead of growing up in the current era.

  • I'm using this song for my Tap Dance resital or however you spell it. I love this song! It's so fun and makes you want to dance to it. :D BEST 50-60s SONG EVER!!!

  • Very nice. Youtube search for VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL MANUEL VARGAS ("At the hop", made in Chile).

    And DISCO 45 MANUEL VARGAS.

    Thanks.

  • sock hops in the gym, grade 10. Wonderful memories with this song. We're we EVER that young? Hope the kids today have as much fun as we did, but I doubt it. poor kids.

    -Bill

  • @baghend I don't have fun at our dances. Just a bunch of people jumping up and down shaking the floors to music that doesn't make sense):

  • @LilKama1 my hope is that, when you're as old as me, you'll look back on your young years with a smile and good memories. You young folks have it tougher than we did I think- seems to be much less hope now. But remember back in the early sixties, basic civil and human rights were denied millions of Americans, just because of color, gender, sexual orientation- As a white boy, while we were having fun at the hop, black teens were being lynched in Alabama. Remember that, or learn it.

  • @baghend I know how it goes, I studied some of that, and such. Being Mexican doesn't help me too much in school, especially with kids waving a Confederate/Dixie flag here in Florida, but I make it. It just takes a little Sociology and Logic to learn what to do. And I wouldn't say that we have it tougher, just a few extra obstacles in place of those back when. I'm not sure, though. Just depends on the person, I guess.

    I'll remember, believe me.

  • @LilKama1 Hola, amigo- you sound like you are heads and tails above those who are still fighting the civil war. And though many things are better- you don't have to worry about polio, (still a kiler when I was young) , the cold war, the draft, or the worst of civil and human rights abuses (esp. for the non white kids) - the so called "dream" is over, if it ever was real. The U.S. Empire is collapsing in debt, and religious right wing

lunacy.. Don't fall for the lies. Good luck- you're bright

  • @baghend I've played the government for all it's worth. I am who I call myself, 'Equites Legati'. Gotten out of my stupidity, and the tests I ran clean and cut free. I am successful with what I do, and I'm happy about it. and thank you. I won't fall for lies, trust me. I know one when I see one.

  • my music teach made my class sing this... that made this song sound awful.

  • @SavageLordVonDrakkar It never fails. No matter what video is on, there will always be some schmuck who will dislike it simply for spite.

  • just snap ur fingers off beat

  • Rukus at Royal Oak 2011 for At The Hop.

  • this song is amazing. i just love it

    ~LE, Cali

  • 13 people didn't go to the hop!

  • love this song

  • Some songs are eternal---this is one of them! It was directly responsible for the creation and success of the Dance Craze by the same name! Generations have past but to this day, when this song is played it will get your foot tapping and people of all ages up to dance. This record along with their "Rock and Roll is here to stay" are legendary Classics. "Danny and the Juniors" still has two of the original members, Joe Terry and Frankie Maffei, both are socialble friendly guys!

    Ron

  • Weird Al Yankovic should parody this song: "Let's go to IHOP"!

  • 12 people didnt go to the HOP!!

  • MAFIAAA II!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they stole black folks' music

  • This sounds like when rock and roll bands get together for a reunion shows decades later and do safer less aggressive versions of their old tunes.

  • I like the original more aggressive version better.

  • A "Hop" was any place where the people danced. Could be a school dance or a soda shop with a swinging juke box. This song can still get the party started if people know how to dance.

  • not bad, a little repetitive though

1:20 what the heck are they doing?!

  • this is an awsome song

  • Awesome song! Have this on vinyl, believe it or not. I will admit the first time I heard this song, it was re-done by a band called Dash Rip Rock and titled "Let's go smoke some pot". Personally, both are equally awesome!

  • good song

  • Lovely Jubbly!

  • they dont have music like this anymore

  • Even though it's not original, -still great stuff and thanks for sharing.

  • maailman paras biisi.

  • and rap isn't proper music its just talking to a beat and its pathetic so who's with me

  • @irocladdreadnought Exactly! But just try to explain that to all of the rapper fans. This is one of this old mans very favorites.

  • sorry i keep commenting every day but i cant stress the point that modern music is rubbish and youtube is filled with 99% rubbish but rock n roll is that 1%

  • @irocladdreadnought hit the nail on the door there, 50's was rocks most genuine era, none of this troth rubbish thats thrown at us today

  • @ANotSoPerfectStorm

the 60 rock n roll era wasn't good at all

  • @irocladdreadnought That's a bit harsh, there actually IS some good modern music, and to deny that is 'rubbish' if you ask me. People make music, not time.

  • Cool...just....Cool.!

  • For a better version of this look up Dash Rip Rock's Let's Go Smoke Some Pot!!

  • @UNSUNGBAND i hate that one coz it's too fast if they had kept this tempo then it would of been awesome but u know they didn't

  • why cant they have this music at discos because modern music is dreadful

  • @irocladdreadnought

Since when is disco modern anymore?

  • i always wished they had played songs like this at my high school dances

  • neil sadaka was god

  • ALL MODERN MUSIC IS RUBISH AND MUST BE FOR RETARDS THIS THIS IS PROPER MUSIC

  • Is it really a re-recording ?

  • I rememver this song from school...too bad its only 2.5 min
