  • 100 percent agree man. As cliche as it sounds, money eventually drives everything.

  • YoU hAvE a point. Now we have a reaction button but the selections are limited to funny, incredible, classic, cute, ouch. Are those the only reactions we have to something. How about shocking, stupid, thought provoking, or wicked.

  • Nice points, Kyle. I think the views, and the new and old ratings were already pwnd by those who choose to stoop to that level, so stars or thumbs, what's the difference? Showing skewed information is worse than none imo. And you know who the biggest skewers are!

  • @OldSchoolSkill I really don't see a problem with sock accounts myself.I wish you were allowed to make more than one account per email address to be honest.I might want to keep my political and atheistic views away from my gaming channel for instance. Not because I have something to hide but just so that you can have a overall theme to your channel.

    'nough said.

  • Dude, I was wondering if I was the only one who'd noticed the things you'd just mentioned. I was like, "Creativity is demoted! Unfunny/vapid shit gets millions of views! Douchebags are making livings talking about Justin Bieber! Am I the only one who's noticed this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!"

    Yes, Zoolander reference. (Brint...no!)

  • Hey, I really liked your video.

As a 'new' youtuber, my videos don't get that many views (relatively speaking). My videos, as you'll find on my channel, are not 'general' videos like RWJ or Smosh. They are not like enjoyed or understood by a large portion of the Youtube population, but I appreciate the people who watch my videos and give me feedback.

I hate the fact that many 'new' youtubers are reduced to leaving comments reading 'plz check out my channel' and then are labeled 'desperate'.

  • Fucking A man!

  • youtube hasn't died, its evolved.

  • If only the anonymous hacker geniuses would unite and start taking down the corporate channels. We can dream can't we? In the mean time back to cats flushing toilets.

  • I hope you realize when you are talking about YouTube, you are talking about Google. Google has become a master at creating and placing ads so that the ads seem like part of the article you are reading. And so when you click as suggested, the suggestion is coming from Google Advertising and not from the relevant article. And Google are world masters at creating virtual realties to suit their needs. And their needs boil down to profits first, which happen to be the same needs of all corporations.

  • well.. something like 98% of the star ratings were 1 or 5... A star system requires scentient observers, and i guess there is a lack of those..

  • Has YouTube died?

    Yes

  • well said.

  • every criticism about youtube I've ever encountered is based upon popularity, or lack thereof.

  • i agree with what u said and i have lately been looking for other kind of video sites but havent found any good ones till now...there is also another problem with utube:the mess in organization that youtube have in the front page and in the subscription channels page u cant really organize ur channels and would get lost if u subscribe to alot of channels..

  • If you were put in a position that would drastically increase your cash flow AS A RESULT of your ideas and work, you wouldn't jump on it?

  • I have to disagree with you on one point--I think the like/dislike feature was brought about because people primarily voted 5 stars or 1 star.

People were more interested in pushing a video's rating up or down, so the 'middle' stars were largely ignored.

  • @ehhhhhhhhhh yeah but the point that he is talking about is that videos dont show the rating on them anymore u have to watch them to see the rating...

  • @lefthandovRA That's not a problem, either. You shouldn't choose to watch a video purely because other people think it is good. I think a vast majority of the top rated videos on YouTube are mindless crap, just like television. Popularity (and your awareness of it) should not matter.

  • @ehhhhhhhhhh its a kind of pre-awareness u dont have the time to watch all vids...after all isnt the reason u click on a vid in the suggestion based upon the image and the title which can both be misleading...so the rating kinda avoid u wasting ur time on mindless crap...

  • @lefthandovRA Well, let's agree to disagree, then. Some of the highest rated videos on YouTube are Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Linkin Park videos. So, if I watched purely based on ratings... I'd spend a lot of time watching crap.

  • @ehhhhhhhhhh

Hey, sorry to interject. I think you both have valid points here. But my point about the ratings system was; say I am watching videos about consciousness. I know the subject pretty well and want to hear well expressed opinions on the subject. Now obviously there are alot of videos on this, but when I click on a link I want it to be of a reasonably good quality and don't have time to check them all. In this case I approximate which videos will be worth my time by the ratings.

  • Well said. This is why small channels need to support each other. I knew a while back that YouTube wanted to go mainstream. I read in the news that they wanted more respect in the corporate world. Since then I’ve seen radical changes. They began airing live sporting events, featuring large ads on the main YouTube page, and let’s not forget the automatically-playing playlist and favourites feature they had going. Besides which, they never give a damn about our opinions (even in mass.) :(

  • forget youtube, I thought you died

  • good ramble.. agree with most of it.. why no proper cam? glad to see you again tho.. hope it becomes a regular things..

  • feel ya brother!

  • Good word man.

Though not to defend Youtube, the like-dislike binairy rating system is really just the result of 99% of Youtube users either rating 1 or 5 stars. This of course makes sense in the end. If you see a 5 star video which you feel is only worth 3 stars, the best way to get it down to 3 stars is to rate it 1 star.

Sadly the intelligent users have to suffer for the dipshits, aka almost everyone on this goddamn website.
