Transport into the site varies, one big GMC cost us 600SR for 4 hrs, but it was a huge one with capacity of 15 ppl, but there were 3 of us only, so it was our loss. so cost will be 400 - 500 per person.
Look for budget hotels .. around 100SR
From madina it is highway 15, after khyber take next major exit ( leftwards ) for Al Ula (highway 328)
it is possible to do this trip in 2 days. Go to Madina Al - Munawwara 1st and continue from there towards 1st Khyber then towards AL Ula city.
Make sure to know your route exactly.
Roads are excellent but 1x1, so i suggest you make your trip during the day. Watch out for camels. Al Ula city will be your base. All hotels to stay are in Al Ula city. Madain Saleh is 22
km from there. You have to apply for police permission to enter the site. Do this well in advance. But if you book a hotel in Al Ula they will do all this with you. Two reputed hotels are Arac and Madain Saleh hotel. They will organize transport into the site for you. Approx cost off season will SR 1200 - 1500 whole
