There's a coloured version of Le voyage dans la lune that was discovered in France a couple of years ago and surprisingly it seems to be the most complete one. Check it on IMDB before swearing, as you may look like an idiot if you don't.

Many of Melies' films were shown in colour. He employed a group of women to hand tint his films frame by frame.

@galox Fraid you're the "fuckin idiot" here.  The original version was hand coloured -all 13000 frames painted by hand. So guibaracat had it right. Might be worth not leaping in so offensively next time, eh?
