I play the clarinet, and i ADORE this piece! we are doing it (my high school band) for an recording audition piece. It is very beautiful and difficult to perfect. Simple notes, but hard to live. I don't play music, I eat, sleep, breathe music, and this is such a hard piece to do justice. But I love it so much :)
My sister plays the french horn part. It sounds really amazing the thing is the band is only 7th and 8th grade.Well i guess because it's Honors band, but other then that i heard that it was more of a high school piece. Then if so....THEN THATS IS SO FREAKIN AWESOME!!!
Compared to Reed's "El Camino Real" I find this piece much, much harder! So much depends on keeping the right embouchure, blending in with the orchesta and producing the right sound. Greetings from a 1st trumpet (dutch wind orchestra).
this piece is so beautiful...we used to play it for our high school band a few years ago before I graduated, and it was just exquisite. I was just thinking about it recently because I heard another rendition of it with my current orchestra, but I don't like it as much as this one!!
I love the frimada (spelling?) at the end! The one with the brass! I love that part and the melody in the beginning from the euphoniums! i love the euphonium! it can play both low dark brass sounds like tubas and beautiful melodies like french horns and trumpets! By the way yall sound great!
We play this piece every year at our Christmas concert! It's such an awesome piece and I'm lucky to be able to have played it on clarinet and bells/chimes.
@psycomathesaurus We're playing this at my high school's honor band. My buddy plays first horn, he loves it. Me on 2nd trombone, bit bored, but beautiful song overall
our band is playing this for our christmas concert and we got it about a week ago(if you count out that we had a week off for thanksgiving break) and we're almost done with the piece. with us being a high school band we've done way harder pieces than this but its fun to be able to play this. i also play flute =D
My highschool band recently sight-read this and because I play bassoon I had the melody in the opening and got to really enjoy the spirit of the peice when I played it.
i like this song its my first year playing it and its kind of difficult but after playing along with this vid, its kinda easier thanks =) btw im a flute player hehehe
Im playing this song with my MS band and it's going pretty good so far. I play the oboe and im in 8th grade. I love the solos at the beginning and end of this piece!
we play this every year in our community band, and it sounds just like this. I play String bass in the Band, but to get it to sound beautiful like this song, I play the tuba part up 2 octaves and add vibrato. it ends up sounding more like a cello. absolutely beautiful.
Oboe does sound like a dying duck for the first few years, until you learn how to make it sound pretty. :) After a few years (I do mean years) it gets to a point where it's incredibly beautiful.
Oh, back in the days I played this for 8th grade. <3 Gave me chills the first time I listened to the professional recording.

The clarinets are drowning out the melody. The only part you can clearly hear is the chorus.
