This is NOT sushi. This is Onigiri. Sushi chef will commit suicide if he heard you compare onigiri with sushi... And onigiri is NOT "snack", it's main dish because rice is main dish.
Point taken. And to any sushi chefs who watch these video: I APOLOGIZE! PLEASE DO NOT COMMIT SUICIDE! ;-D
Also, I referred to this as a snack because it was a small item to eat so that we wouldn't get to hungry while exploring Tsukiji. Later, we had a full meal at an excellent sushi bar next to the market.
I wanna apologize to you too after I realize you truly respect the "sophisticated" Japanese food culture unlike those idiot foreigners messing around in Tsukiji. Japan welcomes you! :)
Arigatou gozaimasu! I lived in Japan for over and year and do hope to return there, at least for a visit. The quite sophisticated Japanese food, history, culture, and people are things I greatly enjoy. :-)
I don't know about worms, but sure, bacteria can get ya if you're not careful. They're very careful in Japan. I never knew anybody to get food poisoning or have other problems. I ate lots of raw seafood there for over a year and never got so much as indigestion from it. :-) Same goes for the other English teachers I knew there.
i think i read up on the info about the tape worm i think it was the type of worm u can get ...but only if the fish eats it then ur in trouble ...but anyways when i order sushi i get the ones without the eggs ..sushi is yummy!!!
I love sushi too, much better than cooked fish (which is okay, but has never been a love of mine). Smoked fish can be very good, though. Living abroad has made me a much huger fan of seafood. Have you ever tried takoyaki?
You have a very good palate to enjoy the fish eggs. Most people don't like them. I've never seen onigiri with fish eggs before, it looks delicious.

Thank you much. Ikura is easily one of my favorite Japanese foods. It's like eating bubbles, except tasty instead of soapy!
