  • I just saw Dudamel conduct Mahler 9 last night, a piece I've been waiting years to hear performed! Thank you Gustavo for bringing Gustav to LA!

  • "remember when we were in our youth"

ironic? he seems like a young guy, well, in the case of classical musicians..

  • @west7689, are you saying this as a girl? :) Im very curious what is the general feeling the ladies have around him

  • Seriously. He is just too adorable.

  • I hope the rendition of Dudamel's Mahler on 26.2.2010 was recorded and will be released...

  • Yes, it was recorded but we can not confirm a release yet. But we hope to be able to release this in the future.

  • You certainly should. It would be a crime against humanity not to. That performance was divine.

  • @Nationalorkestern I'm looking forward to be able to hear this! It sounds amazing!

  • yes dudamel is the new mahler! :$:$:$:$ i love gustavo from venezuela barquisimetoo :$:$ urba el obeliso<3

  • GUSTAVo DUDAMahler!

  • @energydavid Um, not until he starts composing. That's what we have of Mahler; what he composed. We don't have a single scrap of Mahler as a conductor so you can't honestly compare them. I'm not being rude. I'm a big Mahler fan and I'm just now discovering Dudamel. There are no similarities.

  • @TheStockwell First of all Mahler didn't come into prominence as a composer until Bernstein's Mahler Cycle in Vienna, but Mahler set the stage for modern conductors from Furtwangler,Toscanini to Karajan etc. Mahler is one of the most important conductors of the 20th century, and its because of his work as a conductor that made him the amazing orchestrator. Dudamel has a ways to go before he can be considered one of the greatest, but we can say he is on the same growth level of people like Levine

  • @musicfreak08bass First, let me say I don't want to get into a fight or be a YouTube jerk. I'm just saying comparing Dudamel to Mahler is wrong. Dudamel is a brilliant young conductor. We don't have any real clear idea of EXACTLY what Mahler was like as a conductor. Tons of descriptions, sure, but no recordings to back them up. Mahler's real fame comes from what he did as a composer. Dudamel does not compose. We have no tangible record of Mahler as a conductor. How can we REALLY compare them?

  • @musicfreak08bass Here's me, being Mr. Smarty Pants: Bernstein's Mahler with the VPO was in the 1970s. It was his complete cycle with the New York Philharmonic in 1960, the centennial year of Mahler's birth (and the first complete-ish recorded Mahler cycle) that firmly put Mahler on the musical map. So, Bernstein didn't get there first with the VPO; he was upstaged by himself, 10 years earlier. Wotta guy!

  • Are you the new Mahler??
