  • One of the first emo bands ever..(: so amazing!

  • emo, screamo, harcore, punk...fuck that,,,,just is good music!!!

  • @tolenoo I salute you for not feeding the troll!

  • This ain emo if you wanna listen to real emo, real music then listen to fall out boy, these guys are just a greenday rip off band

  • @sockcucker23 - Really? You're actually trying to piss people off?

  • @sockcucker23

    holly shit

    are you kidding?

    learn your lesson, faggot

  • @sockcucker23 greenday came 10 years after this band, real emo is jawbreaker, sunny day real estate and the get up kids..

  • @sockcucker23 Quote from something i found on google: "Rites of Spring was an American post-hardcore band from Washington, D.C. in the mid-1980s, known for their energetic live performances".

Green day formed in 1987. Who ripped off who?

  • Fuck you emo you discriminate because of the tv because until the 2000s was ninguen nen around now because of these pop bands from MTV messing motion for lack doque everyone is talking inxendo bag

  • Goddamn but Piccioto is the man.

  • This is not emo this is KICKASS!

  • It's a shame how Emo music turned from Rites of Spring to Dashboard Confessional.

  • this is emo and MJ is far from emo

  • I miss real emo music...Real emo Music Was Like Band Rites Of Spring, jimmy eat world,a day in black and white

Not Like the ones now like ):

  • i use to hate emo and think it was trendy and gay but its sort of like punk rock its unique i like it..

  • Not really the first emo band But probly the biggest influence. but why do people care, i think of it as post-hardcore but i dont have a problem with people calling it EMO.

  • For people who can't stand to call this Emo because of the negative stigma attached to the label why not just call it post-hardcore? That seems like a fair compromise, doesn't it?

The music is great but a lot of the lyrics are stupid and over-dramatic.

  • @FuttBucker667

Why not just call it a pile of fuck and get on with our lives.

And I think someone is going to get very angry because of what you said about the lyrics..arm yourself against these so called ''trolls''. You know it's funny...I thought trolls stayed under the bridge.

  • @SomeKindOfBand Trolls emerge from their bridges after mid-night to feed on the irritating futility of online arguments for sustenance. And looking at the clock, it's almost past twelve . . . They'll be coming soon . . .

  • @FuttBucker667

    The horror....the horror!

  • There is no denying they layed the grounds for modern day whiny pop called "emo" but the fact of the matter is they are a punk band that has a little more musical aspect...and confessional lyrics, but they are a punk band from the punk era,,and nothing like the sugar coated bands of today.

  • ....why the hell do all you people care what type of music it is..honestly who gives a fuck, its music, stop being a fucking douche bag&enjoy it

  • I cannot remember that EMO was even a term being used back in the days when RoS published this recording (except by some trend-setters in London maybe).

This recording is one of the most intense i listened to in my life and i don't give a f**k about that stereotyped thinking of people who cannot just enjoy the sound.

  • colonel sanders-core... do you have any idea how BADDASS that would be!?!?!

  • Oh god. Same exact comments on Fugazi videos.

    ITS PUNK!

    NO ITS EMO!

    NOOO! EMO MEANS CUTTING YOURSELF!

    NO ITS EMOTIVE HARDCORE!

    NO ITS COLONEL SANDERS-CORE

MICHAEL JACKSON WAS PUNK, THIS IS EMO!

NOT, JACKSON WAS EMO! THIS IS PUNK!

God dammit, get over yourselves and enjoy the music!

  • @8BitSnakeProductions Yeah..dreadful isn't it?

  • @SomeKindOfBand Extremely

  • @8BitSnakeProductions

    hahahaha

  • @8BitSnakeProductions -hahahaha, can't u just imagine Jackson being a "punk" with a mohawk and his dance moves???HIlarious, people r gonna start saying Jesus was a punk soon

  • @8BitSnakeProductions emo isnt cutting urself dumbass

  • @spectra4823 You're a moron dude. I was being sarcastic. That was the representation of YouTube arguments. You're only proving my point.

  • @8BitSnakeProductions self cutting u kid r am asshole

  • yeah calling this emo back in the day would be ok but now it's just degrading

  • not important at all, this is EMO at the end. just the ppl need to learn about the real significant and recover it. but emo ppl nowadays r just dickheads with hairstyles.

  • @kwaikerz -the real meaning of "emo" is dead for all practical purposes, so i suggest that we don't use it, we all know it's gonna be construed the wrong way, say u listen to emo and you'll get "U mean like Alesana and AFI?ur such a fag!!!" If everyone stuck to "good music" as a genre, the music world would be much better IMHO

  • @SomeKindOfBand thank you so much !! By you I discovered my favorite music. Really, I was looking for some ''emocore'' but I know that Alesana,... are screamo band, but... you, you posted Rites of Spring and now I can show what is true ''emocore'' or ''punk/emo'' to my friends... I am 14 years old, and I am sure that the trues ''emos'' are always are, but there is a lot of posers >.> Oh euhm, where can I find the album? Cuz I don't think I can find it in HMV or on Itunes xD

  • @Sergua1208 Why don't you just buy the CD? Just go to a CD store and order it, it's as easy as that.

  • dude-fest lol

  • Mcr is not emo so everyone back off...and mcr aren't posers of emo cuz there not emo btw!

They classify themselfs as rock..or "dangerous violent pop"

  • there also gay stop advertising or talking about other bands on a rites of spring page

  • Oh yeah, I agree with SomeKindOfBand.

But I think it's al little bit of PostPunkEmocoreRockabillySurfsoundStreetwiseUrbanFolkRocknRoll

  • You know what, that could be a very cool genre. Good idea's are just being commented on youtube these days!

  • lets argue about bands and their genres yall

  • Yes, let's there's nothing better than fighting about genres right?

  • alesana, fall out boy, simple plan, green day are posers !!!!!!

  • Maybe. They made another choice that's for sure.

  • green day doesn't belong in that sentence. just saying.

  • yes!!thank you

  • @nokiannie kid fob simple plan and green day are just shit but i have to admit alesana is pretty good

  • @MEGAFREDO14 Hey i just found this comment this was made by my daughter not me i like Green day dont know who the other guys are though lol hahaha

  • For justice of the word,...expression and it's musical standing, which ignorant people like to call shit like MCR and Panic @ the Disco and other Pop-punk shit emo,...when in all reality it's just a buncha camwhore scene music

  • mcr is nothing like that shemale Panic! at the disco shit.

mcr's old albums are fucking hardcore

  • My Chemical Romance is just Queen and Pink Floyd repackaged with a hip image.

  • funny, mcr sounds nothing like pink floyd or queen. do tell where you got this idea, as well as how many songs you can name from those three bands.

  • You probably think Franz Ferdinand is nothing like Gang of Four too. Or Interpol isn't ripping off Joy Division.

Just pay attention to the chord progressions; but to be fair, that's not limited to just this sort of thing.

  • dude your thinking all mcr's new stuff. go listen to "honey this mirror isnt big enough for the two of us" or "Skylines and turnstiles" its all post-hardcore.

  • sorry post-hardcore and crap are completely different

  • are you saying mcr's old stuff is crap? it is definitely modern post-hardcore. what would you consider that kind of music then? and i mean an actually genre

  • post-hardcore doesnt mean anything. yes im saying MCR are posers. if you want an actual genre that i would consider MCR.... hmmm..... i would throw them into a category as simple as pop. i dont consider them any better than the likes of FOB and bands along those lines. from what ive seen they lable thier music 'emo' to feed off of sad and lonely teens but truthfully its a big SHOW. they are just another over-produced 'we're totally punk' band. (but with being punk, the perception is shouldbether

  • dude, you listen to marylin manson. epitome of fake.

  • hmmm... really? what is he faking? Hes not claiming the title of emo. punk. and is defineatly not trying to please society by his lyrics and shock-rock method. so please support your claim of Marilyn Manson is fake. what is MM faking?

  • his entire image. well i guess in a way you're right, he is not claiming to be anything, but his whole "creepiness" is definitely just a show.

  • dude, im sorry i shouldnt be busting on your own interests, its irrelevent to the conversation at hand

  • dude, have you ever read the book that he wrote? he pretty much admitts to being a complete poser within like the first two chapters. his whole image is a just gimic to get people to notice him and his "music".

  • haha, of course the creepiness is a show. He is one of the epitomes of shock rock. but his rock its not like hes faking emo rock. His songs are often satrical (We're From America for example)or the darker side of ove songs Heart shaped Glasses for instance. He is not faking real emotion in music. His message makes sense and im not saying the image is not fake, but his points arent.

  • Because they are just as fucking redundant as Queen and Pink Floyd

  • Pink Floyd redundant!?!?!? Please explain, or let it be concluded that you've never written a lyric or picked up a guitar in your life.

  • Actually, I take that back. You don't have to write or play anything to realize how different every Floyd album is from the one before it. Ummagumma was similar to Saucerful of Secrets in some ways, and Meddle shared SMALL similarities with Atom Heart Mother, but that's it. I think you're just going by what you hear on the radio, which are all songs from the same two albums, so duh they seem redundant.

  • mcr is good but don't be blasphemous.there is just no compare between them.queen and pink floyd are legends

  • MCR is a hit and miss band some songs are good others are just horrible

  • who really gives a shit. There's more to music as a whole than this "what is emo" debate.

Just enjoy bands you like, ignore those you don't and always keep an open mind.

  • emo...

    its nowhere near punk dumbass

  • Emo is a retarded term(to me) if it's emo to you....it's emo if it's punk rock to me...you can guess? let people have their own opinions...come on.

  • sure EMO does have a derogatory connotation these days, but back in the day, it was the first bands of the genre, in which punks would accept into the fold before they snapped out into their own. on the edge of new genres we get hazy, but it is the determined like you, fallenskater098 who help define things with your passionate emotional self

  • this comes from a stupid skateboarder. why don't go flip a your peice of wood.

  • Love Them ;)

  • Said nice and simple...I love them too.

  • <3 <- It can always be more simple....

  • Touché

  • im calling it emo not because it is emo how it is seen now but emo when emo was punk with meaningful lyrics you know it was called emotional punk to start with and also it is the roots of emo because if you cant see how this inspired the likes of MCR and FOB's early stuff then you need an ear adjustment but all the bands in the 80s DC scene were ace so lets not get technical over genres its punk to you its emo/punk crossover to me and.we are all a minority so weve got to stick together you know

  • and btw emo aint downgrading because its better than dance or techno or that kind of shite (;

  • Sure...whatever you say.

  • wow im so glad i found this band!!! im really getting int the DC punk/emo crossover scene

  • Gosh i wish i coulda seen them live!

Rites of Spring is awesome! Moss Icon is good, but mayun Rites of Spring rox!

  • wow im 13 and my grandpas obsesed with these he showed me a song and i really liked it

  • Always nice to hear that someone likes good punkrock music.

How old is your grandpa if I may ask? I don't wanna be rude just wondering if he saw them live.

  • I saw them live....and there has never been anything like it since. Ever.

  • I believe you, I can only see the effect on music afterwards and the shows that were taped. You ARE one of the luckiest human beings ever....I mean EVER.

  • It was actually there last show as Happy Go Licky. 930 club 1-1-88. They always refused to play ROS songs. But when they came back on for the last encore, Guy says,"This is an old one.." and they played "Drink Deep". The place exploded.....what a moment.

  • I've read that they did. Too bad there is no footage.

  • I've actually got the audio of that show (though it's on cassette and of so so quality.) But every time I listen to it, it sends a chill down...

  • Wow. That´s really cool!

  • I don't find it downgrading that they are called emo. It's just that they are the REAL EMO. Not the commercial mainstream bullshit that is out there.

  • I only think it's downgrading if people refer to it as emo all the time as if this band is more emotional than other rock bands of that time. I also don't understand where modern emo came from, I don't feel and hear the same passion which is too bad. I don't want to offend you or piss you off but I just don't like the term(of course you don't have to give a shit what I care about.)

    Bye,

  • Modern Emo is a mix between Pop-Punk and Post-Hardcore. They aren't emo at all, but the media labels them "Emo" and "Screamo". It's a bunch of bullshit.

I'm not offended, its all cool man.

  • I'm happy your not offended. ''it's all cool'' is not being said enough.

  • Hey man even though to me emo not a bad word,....I here ya,and It can be easily over used,...and for the wrong thing,..music wise it's a touchy word,...but more importantly your cool b/c you posted this shit!!!!!! Thanks a million

  • YOU! YOU MY FRIEND, you need to get a fucking medal. You understand shit! Thanks a bunch! Finally.

By the way..this was not a joke.

  • yeah emotion is personal,...but seriously,...I like the kinda genre that reflects the soul,....and I'm glad to finally make a valid point on youtube,...thanks a million,...Uchihasharingan43

Part of the Emos for justice colition

  • So many genres reflect the soul. Like ''Soul'' for instance, blues, EARLY rythym&soul. It's just so broad.

  • But when reffering to the POST-HARDCORE genere that saved my ears,...it's eHc or Emotive Hardcore

  • Thank you

  • I wouldn't call them "emo". I would call them Emotive Hardcore. That was the original term if I am not mistaken. "Emo" was actually used as a deragatory name for a fan of Rights of Spring or a similar emotive band in the 90's. It's sad how the name "emo" has become glamorous and how all these modern day bands are considered "emo".

I wish people would get this stuff right.

  • Yes,...YES!!!!!!!!!! this iss true, emo is not down grading,...even my band knows that

  • wow. seriously this is fantastic. i have heard of these guys before but never actually looked them up. i very much enjoy

  • That's great! I don't know a lot of people who really like these songs

  • Bravo. Fucking Bravo.

  • Don't tell me. Tell Picciotto.

  • good :)

  • Glad you enjoy.
