  • daffydoug I hope your well and my prayers go out to you and your loved ones!

I come back to this post every know and then to here a boogie-woogie beat when I need it!

  • I tried not to tap my feet and I failed. Check out Ben Hall.

  • I can only wish you well, Doug, and thank you again for bringing all these Chet tracks back to me after far, far too many years,

  • @granpab I wish it didn't have to end this way. I wish things had turned out different in my life. I still have a good 4 or 5 hundred Chet tunes I never got to post. But there is this little irresistible thing called fate...and it's knocking at my life's door.

  • @daffydoug, there's a whole lot of Chet's fans that really adore you(including me), for bringing us Chet's songs which we haven't heard before.

You know, I myself wish that things had turned out for me and so do a lot of your fans for themselves.

Fate plays a funny hand without fairness to anyone.

I and your fans(I'm sure) feel the same and would do whatever they can to help you through whatever is troubling you.

Let loose man, so that we can help you. You hear?

  • @maurieer Maur,

It's personal stuff that I can't share openly on these public posts. Only in private. Otherwise. my personal life will be spread all over the planet!

But it touches me deeply that people are thinking about me. People that don't even know me. Most likely, people who love Chet's music as much as I do.

Chet was the master, I'm just the messenger!

So, anyway, I can't talk about it here on the open posts, only in private.

  • Doug, I'll never tire of your great uploads of Chet Atkin's music.

You deserve a MEDAL for your efforts.

I'll always go to your channel for tha latest from Mr.

    guitar.

  • @maurieer Those very kind comments touch me deeply. But my time here is coming to an end very soon.

  • @daffydoug

I sure as hell hope not.

  • @maurieer Sad, but true. I'm on the way out.

  • @daffydoug Doug - they after you again???

  • @granpab No it's not them. it's other nightmarish circumstances in my life that are taking me away to another place where I will not be able to post anymore.

  • Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent (1941-1959) was a renowned cartoon character created by Bob Clampett. He was best known for his association with Beanie, and the phrase, "I'm comin', Beanie boy!".

In private life, Serpent was a collector of guitar memorabilia and a noted critic. His reviews of early Travis recordings remain the standard for guitar judgement. This tune was dedicated to his memory by Merle Atkins, Chet Travis, Tommy Reed & Jerry Emmanual.

  • @moproducer I remember Cecil well. That TV show is what got Daw's Butler (voice of Yogi Bear and Hucklebery Hound) and Stan Freeburg started in the voice-over business. Daws did Beanie, and Stan was Cecil.

  • Here's the answer to "Who is Cecil?"

A singer and songwriter, Cecil Null's most famous composition was "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know," a Number 1 hit for the Davis Sisters (Skeeter Davis & Betty Jack Davis). Null was also the guiding force in uniting Chet Atkins and Merle Travis for their Grammy-winning 1974 album, The Atkins-Travis Travelling Show. His 1964 song, "Mother Maybelle," was inspired by Maybelle Carter.

  • What album is this from? I wish to purchase this minute!!!

Two of the greatest guitar players that have EVER LIVED!!!

RIP Chet and Merle! We will love you ALWAYS

  • @justincgs It's from "The Atkins Travis Traveling Show" album.

  • @justincgs Did you find a copy of this LP? I have one for sale for $10.

  • sort of wondering outloud here...if "Cecil"..isnt Cecil Gant....

known for "boogie woogie" type songs! and this has a similar sound to an old record of his.

    reso aka patti

  • my Grandpa's name was Cecil, so I dedicate this song to him!

  • Merle came out of Muhlenberg Co., KY. He and the Everlys. A lot of talent over there.

  • Stills????

  • @regarre70 Very few guitarists have styles of picking named after them.

  • By the liner notes " Cecil was the engineer and heard Chet and Merle warming up with this tune ( just Jammin') he liked it so much they included it on LP as "Cecils Blues" I've had Steve Trovato transcribe this for me if you guitarists can read notation - RMANL

  • Who was Cecil?

  • Million dollar question! I wish I knew!

  • I've looked for that jam session all my life.

Guess I missed the big one ! Great stuff !

  • What an awesome collection of

    Mr. Guitar aka C.G.P.

  • I'm standing with Merle Travis's Nephew right now and we're diggin the shit out of this

  • Yup! That's where it all started! If it weren't for Chet and Merle, alot of guys nowadays wouldn't know a guitar from dirt!

  • Chet and Merle were the best!!!!!!
