@ZeroAzrael614 you have to find the LCD(lowest common denominator) when adding or subtracting fractions when they do no have the same denominator. Both denominators of each fractions 2 and 8 go into 8. How many times does 2 go into 8? 4...so multiply the numerator (top) and denominator (bottom) both by 4.

what is the least common multiple of 2 that you can match with 8, 8 right? so so since 8 is the least common multiple of 2 and 8 you have to multiply 1/2 by 4 to get the the same denominator like 1/8. you can't multiply 1/2 by 2, 5 or 6 because you won't get the same denominator.

@rbaskin Your trying to find the LCM *Least Common Multiple* MULTIPLE. NOT DIVISIBLE Or whatever lol. So 2 can go into 8.. 4 times.. and 8 Can go into 8.. 1 time. You cant find a smaller number that both the denominators go into.

easy way bro is you cross multiply 1 x 8 then you add 3 x 2 then multiply the bottom together so you get 8+6/ 16 which can be reduced so 14/16 can divide the top and bottom by 2 so you get 7/8
