@emrabt They wrote the songs for Chitty Chitty as well as Mary Poppins, Chitty started filming before mary poppins was released, so if this song got cut and the shermin brothers wrote it, they could use it again as they pleased, I mean if its their own song no copywrite issues!
I can see why it didn't make it into the movie. It added nothing, and would have only worked if they visited the zoo. Besides, the effects needed for the anmals just for this scene would have been costly and difficult.
Just so everyone knows, this scene is in the Mary Poppins book series, where the children go to the zoo to celebrate Mary Poppins' birthday, and the animals are looking at the people in cages and making people do tricks. It would have been botched if it was added in the film. Although the books and film are totally different, they are each amazing in their own right :)
I heard this scene was supposed to follow the "I Love to Laugh" sequence. But was that song to be sung still at Uncle Albert's, or was the original intention for Mary Poppins to take the kids to a zoo on another outling before returning home?
dude, I just realized some crazy shit, I was watching the Bonus Features on the Mary Poppins DVD, saw this clip and I was thinking, dude, I've heard this melody before. Turns out I was right, this melody is used in the film Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland, as the song Etiquette. Both film's scores were done by the Sherman Brothers so there's no doubt about it (even tho the films were released decades apart). I could upload it if there is enough interest I guess.
I just heard the song "Etiquette" and it turns out that you're right! It's the exact same song! Maybe you can dub the song "Etiquette" with this song "Chimpanzoo"! What do you think?
thats fairly commen for musical scores. music of the night's melody was considered by 2-3 other andrew lloyd webber musicals, and a few songs cut from phantom went into aspects of love, one of his later shows.
I like how the Disney animators used storyboards to map out the actions for this films. I just find it interesting because this was, for the major of it, a live action film. :)
REAL awesome, that would've been so cool if they would've put that in the film. But it seems kinda of pointless for the plot. I like how the song is so cute, i think i remember reading about the cimpanzoo in the Mary poppins books, but its been so long since i read them. This little scene is also on the New 40th aniversary addiction of the DVD they released last year. Theres also an hour long feature that tells you the making of mary poppins, its so awesome!
@nuclearzeon
Yes, especially if this were put in the movie. It would defiantly be a Big-Lipped-Alligator-Moment, used or unused.

Lemme guess.
Big-Lipped Alligator Moment?
nuclearzeon 7 months ago
so catchy, but omg, this would be terrifying to see animated.
humans behind bars giggling while animals in waistcoats throw popcorn at them and laugh?
love the song, but i'm glad they cut it
monkeyzinabarrel 8 months ago
Seesh, this is a weird song. And the idea of a reversed zoo (the animals looking at the humans in the cages) has been done.

Sounds a LOT like the old bamboo from Chitty chitty bang bang... in fact... I think it might be the same song.

@Meguas2 lol
step in time, step in time, everybody step in time
me old bamboo, me old bamboo better never bother with the old bamboo.

whats the point of this song
theres no reason for it
theres no point to this song
what was it supposed to add? It has nothing to do with the movie at all
this just scares me...
meghan428 2 years ago
which is why it wasn't in the movie.
Thats why it was deleted.
It would only make sense if the visited the chimpanzoo later.
showing off with their top of the line animation effects.
emrabt 2 years ago 5
@meghan428 Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious had nothing to do with the movie. Yet it is the most famous song from it.

Sounds very interesting, the Sherman brothers recycled a lot of their unused Mary poppins songs for other movies. Please upload it

That didn't fit into the Mary Poppins style, so I think Its for the better that it was cut. but thaqt's just MY opinion

It'd be so much better this song in the place of that stupid jokes.
CohenF 5 years ago
I love those "stupid" jokes! Especially the "Wooden Leg named Smith" one!
Rkerekes13 5 years ago 2
By the way, there's nothing stupid about those jokes!
Rkerekes13 4 years ago
@CohenF No, it wouldn't be better if this song were in the place of those jokes! It'd be awful! And besides, those jokes are NOT stupid at all!
