This is a great example to prove that guitar tone is in the fingers and NOT the gear. Nothing could be further from his famous Fender Strat than that hollowbody Gretsh thing he is playing and nothing could be further from his Hiwatt amps than that Fender Bassman Tweed sitting there. And still, that tone is PURE Gilmour. Guy could play a Hondo Les Paul copy through a home stereo preamp and it would sound better than just about anybody in the world.

"Hi, I'm trying to sound like SRV/Hendrix/Gilmour, et al and I wanna know what gear I can use that'll give me that song"...equipment is like .00001% of it. You can give Hendrix a First Act guitar and an 1w amp and he'll play purple haze better than someone with a '68 vintage strat, marshall JCM 800 and a vintage fuzz face.

i think the story goes, he was in a taxi, and mid conversation with the taxi driver, floyd came on the radio, and he stated how much he "hates them" the taxi driver turned out to be related to gilmour i think , anyhow this is how they got together to make the wall movie featuring geldof! i may not be exactly spot on but this is the version i have heard multiple times!

I really like this sort of toned down version. The mostly acoustic aspect completely changes the feel of it, and shows the piece's versatility quite well, and I love the inclusion of the cello in the verse part.
