I keep hearing things about projections with martial arts. What exactly is it? I never heard of it.

I love to watch aikido and aikijujutsu training. It's beautiful and peaceful to watch. The fault in such systems, though, is one based in reality due to the fact that aiki-ka are taught to blend with each others' energy in the dojo. This gives a false sense of security regarding self-defense. Real attackers do not blend or harmonize with you or run at you with an arm outstretched. You can not be prepared for real combat unless you train against a resisting partner and realistic attacks.

I think you shouldn't slam your legs and feet at the end of a roll which is shown on the beginning. I've been practicing Aikido, I also tried rolling on pavement and tried checking what is good for me. Try having a softer completion on the roll.

I believe that Aikido can be really effective if trained properly. BUT- I don't like how people come running at you with an overhead chop or with their arm extended so that you can easily execute your move. I've watched many fighting vids on youtube and I haven't seen anyone attacked like that. But, I do like the control hold techniques (joint manipulations) of Aikido, very painful.

I see your point, but mind you, Aikido/Aiki-jutsu were created a LONG long time ago, where swords and knifes were used much more often. The chopping motion is used to simulate a knife or sword.

Aikido is not an old art at all,it was founded in 1938,Aikido came from the nonlethal techniques in Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu and other old forms of Japanese Koryu,Aikijujutsu on the other hand dates back to the 12th century and can be traced back further depending on the Family Koryu.

ive done a bit of ju jitsu and this guy seems to me to be very very good! none of the moves are new to me but he executes them all with minimum effort and high efficiency...credit to the white belts too for not acting like jelly men and fake tapping...good teacher i bet!

There are some good projections and energy re-directs. I am a realist when it comes to Martial Art's, and I've never been a fan of the soft touch throwing for anything other than demostration. Good to see that here, there is no magical throwing going on, nice joint locks. Is the school still up and coming though, why's your sign on the ground?

Ok, heres what I want to know. Can you dodge angle strikes as well with those side steps or do you have to block them? like, when the uke attaks he does a vertical slice with his hand like a chop with a boken. But could the shuffle side step work somehow with a horizontal or vertical slice/attack? LIke a hook puch or a diagonal hammer fist? Or would you be forst to parry/block, or duck down rather than use the footwork? Sorry that was long but jujutsu is very complex :p

Aiki is a jujutsu.. Aikido is the origin.. But the different is the technique..

????, what are you talking about? AikiJujutsu is the greatest influence of Aikido though the Founder respectively O'Sensei Ueshiba has also joined other martial arts he learned to form a new art which is called Aikido

It's a lot of things. Not only pressure points it's joint manipulation, unbalancing his opponent, leverage, body mechanics etc. etc. Aiki arts are very deep.
