Post rock bands I like are Sigur Ros, Russian Circles, Jakob, for poly-rhythmic metal, my favorite is Textures. One of the reasons, why I like them is because of their drummers. You can easily hear that Textures drummer has gone through jazz school, because of his musicality. And its the same deal with others(although Im not sure if they went to jazz schools). And this is MY long opinion. :D

I really mean this respectively. You may be kindof right. But don't most mainstreem drummers play the same?.. Or even classic rock beats. They sound mostly the same to me. Derek and George are similar because of the Genre they play. As are most other drummers that play the same Genre. But those two play like nobody else that i know of.. I'd say there pretty unique. He really seems only capable of one thing. i KNOW he puts up videos of other styles, but honestly, he hasn't gotten to that level of intensity and feel that is necessary for the other styles. I was almost personally insulted by how weak his "clave" and "jazz" videos are...they were terrible...it sounded like a High School kid. (granted: a high school kid with chops)

(This IS all subjective, mind you) When thinking aobut what i think MUSICIANSHIP is on the drum instrument, I would always lean toward a Steve Gadd or a Bill Stewart and i don't think you would. that said, i think of roddy and jordison as the yngwie malmsteens of drumming...they advanced at exactly one element of music and really left the rest behind... they're very limited

I really mean this respectively. You may be kindof right. But don't most mainstreem drummers play the same?.. Or even classic rock beats. They sound mostly the same to me. Derek and George are similar because of the Genre they play. As are most other drummers that play the same Genre. But those two play like nobody else that i know of.. I'd say there pretty unique. But maybe not so unique from eachother like you were saying.
