@MocheEtObese I actually Wikipediaed it and it turns out it's one of those " open for interpretation" types of endings. What they want you to think is either the publisher had two daughters, one French one English ( Julia and Julie) and all that stuff actually happened or Sarah Morton was staying with the publisher's British daughter Julia (the good one) and JULIE ( the naughty one) is just a figment of her imagination, a made up character for her book that stands for what she wants to be.

She is a character in the book Sarah is writing. The movie is the book.

Sarah was probably having an affair with her publisher who is a player and

who is moving on. Her book is sort of a form of revenge. Thats my take.
