oh man, dig that juddering scrolling! Remember this game, came on tape with my BBC Micro, fresh out of Dixons in 1985. My mum loved it, she could spend all night playing this, she got as far as the black meanies!
The interesting thing about this game was that you could hide in the undergrowth from the meanies. they could not enter the undergrowth. However you had destroy the undergrowth to complete the level. so in effect, your destroying your on cover.
The monsters were called meanies weren't they? You could push the meanies into the sea and and hold them there to kill them but they couldn't be killed by pushing them into the marsh water. The sea had more white specks than the marsh water.
One of the games that was on the first ever disk that my Dad bought home from work. It was fun - I loved the little animation as the monster jumped into the cab and drove the JCB off - even if a bit limited. And has to be one of the first licensed games on the Beeb.
I don't remember this game, looks good though. Shame the game maker didn't bother getting the scroll in time with the Vsync. I guess this was shot using a BBC emulator, so perhaps on a real Beeb the scroll was smooth?

Oh, and don't know if this video shows it, but you could also hold the shovel down and push the monsters into the ocean.
