  • Is there a part 12

  • The chap at 6:24 looked the spitting image of Michael Collins, just for a few seconds.

  • These comments are a giant "@" fest.

  • I'll make this very simple for everyone. Michael Collins was a hero to the Irish people. Eamon De Valera was a total wanker.

  • I'd no idea Jonathan Rhys Meyers was in this film!

  • so compared to our civil war here in america how bad was the irish civil war

  • @50TNCSA Nowhere near as long or as bloody, but still vicious.Especially since it degenerated into a geurilla war by 1922.

  • Brother against brother. Cruelty.

  • What did collins say at 40 secs?

  • what happened to the subtitles?

  • @cool10295 Just wondering, would the 6 counties ever want to join the republic? I mean, I can see how many would, but wouldn't there be an outpouring of violence from unionists that might hinder the removal of the partition? Just curious what you think, because given that my family is from Tyrone and Fermanagh, I've always been brought up in the knowledge that my family was British through and through, not Irish. It's a sad state of affairs when a nation cannot be whole.

  • de valera was only trying to do what he thaught was best he wasnt a bad person its just michael collins was more of an action for ireland person and didnt want to harm in anyway irishmen !

  • IRA = I Ran Away

  • So after all this, you fenian bastards still never got the North eh? haha

    NO SURRENDER

  • @LordWellington15

Sad you think like that very sad, i really feel sorry for you .

  • @LimerickWarrior1 Dont feel sorry for a man who giveth the truth.

  • @LordWellington15

You seriously think that people care about the North anymore, you need to grow up.

  • @LimerickWarrior1 Why is it than that there are orange lodges in Ghana, Togo, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, Wales, England, and Scotland? Someone obviously cares... Why is it that since the peace process in NI, the Orange Parades attract more and more people every year? Why is it that after nearly 100 years of RA terrorism the North is still British? Why? hmm?

  • @LordWellington15 North is a poor country with little or no Industry incapabe of independence, in fact most of the big cheese and milk factories are owned by southern companies, even your electrical supply company is own by an irish company.

100 years??? What about 700 years of British murder and rape???.

Your culture is very weak if Orange lodges are your biggest export but normally people that flag wave all the time are mkaing up for something , sad really.

  • @LimerickWarrior1 You see, thats what you foolish Taigs are taught to think. Why is it that the South had to be bailed out with BRITISH funds? Why is it that our banks, our economy, our working force is in 100 times better shape than the South? What do you Irish have? Hmm? Tell me? Potatoes and beer? When ever the world thinks of Ireland they think of mad tempered drunken gingers, and thats a fact.

  • @LordWellington15 You dont live on the moon, ive been to the North 3 times this year already.

IF the south goes bang then you starve, the Republic provides 38% of all foodstuffs consumed in the UK and that is a fact. Also please explain to me why Intel, Analog, Microsoft, HP, Ebay, yahoo, Facebook and google, all have EU HQ's in the republic if your work force is in such better shape.???

  • heh kitty kat..try tellin most of ireland that and see wat kinda response u get, ud b betta of just shutting up i think

  • So much sensless killing. Michael Collins isn't any kind of hero. And before all the "you don't understand unless your Irish" comments start flooding in, there is Irish blood in me but I'm human first. Too much violence over borders, politics and it is still going on and it doesn't make it any less sensless.

  • @kittykatBflat ask yourself why did all the violence begin in the first place?british occupation whre for about 700 years ireland suffered death, persecution, women raped and children persecuted. So what did u want us to do,sit back and take it all.Michael Collins at least changed that.No offense but u sound as if u want the world to turn into a hippie compound or something, keep dreaming

  • So much sensless killing. Michael Collins isn't any kind of hero. There is Irish and French blood in me but I'm human first. Too much violence over borders, politics and it is still going on.

  • So much sensless killing. Michael Collins isn't any kind of hero.

  • makes you want to start an uprising.

  • anyone know what the piece of music at 3.30 is called?

  • dam you snape!!!!

  • is that the end????

  • I love the "He was one of us" line; it shows that all Collins cares about is the Irish people as a whole

  • when will u upload 12?

  • I think it was selfish of that half of the Irish people, and bloody stupid, for them to start a civil war during such a time.

  • Question to Topnotch121: I'm a Northerner and was just wondering what the opinion is in the South over de Valera. I understand Collins to be popular for the (in my opinion) sensible decision to sign the Treaty. But what about de Valera? What his legacy? Is he still popular? I know he played a vital role in creating the republic but historians are becoming increasingly critical. Writers like Mansergh, Jackson and Lyons have all spoken out agaisnt him. What's your evaluation of him?

  • @theozzman91 i hated de valera.spasticated man made us suffer for decades because of his petulence.stupid cunt sent mick collins to england to sign the treaty and then bitched about it.wanker, absoulute wanker.

  • @Topnotch121 This man does not represent anyone in Ireland who has the ability to formulate balanced thoughts, learn basic history and differentiate between fact and fiction.

He is a moronic tosser. He doesn't know anything about anything. I'm not a Dev fan either, but that's a very stupid and simplistic view.

  • @Topnotch121

    Talking utter crap there

  • @Topnotch121 fuck off will ya de valera had no choice and the movie is half wrong anyway

  • @Topnotch121 Here look u can't blame De Valera for this, He knew him self when sending Michael Collins they would not achieve the full republic. It would be a step towards freedom

  • @theozzman91 speaking as a history ma graduate, devalera was indeed a very smart man in allowing collins to take the rap for such a clever treaty. it was indeed what dev was looking for and also as far and as mucha s the British gov was going to give to the irish in the hope that no more would be required as they needed the finance from the irish gov due to their desolation after ww1.however dev is still a popular figure and i would definately say he played a smart political card against collins

  • @theozzman91 Old school Fianna Failers are sometimes quite fond of some romanticised idea of him, but these days hes generally hated, particularly by Fine Gael supporters, for his potential part in Collins' death, his slimey political tactics, that set the tone for Irish politics ever since, and, much more recently, because it came to light that he denied holocaust survivors refuge, while admiring and sheltering nazi war criminals. The younger generation dislike him largely because of this film.

  • @theozzman91 dev manipulated collins, used him, some say he had too.dev was offered the north by churchill in ww2,in return for ireland to give up its nuetral status.dev refused because he taught his party would suffer at the polls in a united ireland. in conclusion collins was selfless , dev was selfish.

  • @theozzman91 i belive that collins would have accepted churhhills offfer in ww2, and we would have a united ireland now,for better or worse.

  • @theozzman91 In reply in a less vulgar manner :P He was a man who based the dealings of the country in self interest and his values. After the treaty was signed and the civil war ended DeValera and Sinn Fein did not enter the Dail until after the election of 1932 because of the Oath Of Allegiance to the crown which was of no consequence to the country in itself and wasted time looking for irish votes to enter the Dail and then never entering which was a slap in the face to their voters

  • @theozzman91

A fascist who thought women belonged in the kitchen and like Franco gave the church way too much power.

  • @Tuigim Very true. I think he also sent condolences to the German government upon the death of Hitler. Although it was done to uphold the policy of neutrality strictly, it's still a contemptible act.

  • @theozzman91 eamon de valera fucked up here. im a pro treaty collins fan, but he did great things for this country after such as leading us through ww2 and going to crazy lengths to secure our neutrality. he fucked up wit the treaty but when we look back he is still one of the greatest political figures in the history of the state

  • @theozzman91

de Valeras in some circles is a Communist and a Traitor. He killed Michael Collins. In some circles of thought he is a pimple on the ass of Michael Collins,

Face it there is no movie called De Valeras at all but there is a movie called Michael Collins.

Like De Valeras said himself that he would be a historical footnote while Michael Collins would be studied and revered throughout history

  • @ThoughtTraveler he didnt kill collins !!!!

  • I'm no expert of Irish history but my view has always been that Collins was the Soldier and De Valera the politician. While Collins wasn't really far-sighted in the political sence or very good in diplomatics he was honest to what he believed in, while De Valera played for his own personal political career as much as he did for the common cause. The makers of this film seem to think quite similarly.

  • devil lary as i call him the swine was only happy when the light shined on him he made a fool of Collins and shamed him by turning half the country against him.

I gave Collins a capital name but not the other whore.

  • The irony here is that they are shelling the GPO with British ammunition. That really pissed off the anti treaty side.

  • @uckitty thats not the GPO its the four courts

  • My Great Grandad sided with the free state and his brother (my great grand uncle) sided with de valera they were both killed in the civil war

  • My family were split, and my Great Grandfather had to shoot his own brother in law. Bloody civil war, just madness. Too many people died and all because of a bloody treaty.

  • thats a blatant misinterpretation on your part wchurchill1874.the treaty was the cause of bloodshed simply because of a shower of spastics thinking we could actually get more from Britain.

  • @Topnotch121- It was a terrible thing, though. All civil wars are. Heck, all wars are.

  • @Topnotch121 I agree but Collins was also being a spastic for being Dev's bitch. He should have told them that Dev was the president and to pursue him for it.

  • i agree

  • @WChurchill1874 I can imagine your feelings.

During the WW II , mother's family lived in a very small village at the feet of a little hill near Maranello:

    Nazi HQ were 10 minutes car bearing to the plain ;

    Partizans HQ were 10 minutes car bearing to the top of the hill;

the small village where they lived was in the middle.

One has to eat and drink and work every day in that situation:

    so now 'make your play'...

P.S. Nazies never found Partizans HQ...

  • England knew that Ireland would tear it self apart thats why they took Nothern Ireland and created the treaty.

  • why destoy a part of the UK??? I don´t think they woudl do it!

  • probably right.

  • i find that unlikely that the brits wud throw in the towel and offer a treaty although am irish and more den likely ur english u wud no better then me on how ur goverment would opperart i highly doubt they wud be that smart

  • They created the treaty, because if Ireland was granted full independence the rest of the empire would follow, and Britain was only going to remain a global superpower with an Empire. It was a compromise. Speaking as an Irishman, I think that the Free-State was the best that Ireland was going to get at the time. And a republic could be built on it's foundations.

  • dead right mate.well said.

  • Thank you! My family sided with Collins and my Great Grandfather served as a Coirnéal (Colonel) so was one of the offerices who took part in this campaign. I understand why de Valera took the view he did, but I cannot support it. All it did was to break Ireland up into three factions. Pro-British, Pro-Free State and Pro-Republic, all fighting eachother. Completely awful.

  • Totally agree.

  • @WChurchill1874 what a load of bullshite.

  • @WChurchill1874 your no irishman with a name like wchurchill1874 will ya get fucked i dont even have to check your page to know that it says the uk

  • 1. Isn't The Lee Enfield a bolt action.

    2. Harry was never shot in the river liffey

    3. \I LOVE THIS FILM, IT'S OF EPIC PROPORTIONS

  • man, very few people give a shite about all these little comments tat youre making.i agree entirely with your political views on the treaty though.

  • @Topnotch121 What, like fucking history? This is a very entertaining film, but it's almost pure fiction.

You probably wouldn't be able to see that because of your own moronic IRA beliefs. And I'm a total Republican and anti-imperialist. I'm also anti-violence.

  • @GallagherWellerBrown well its not all pure fiction.the romantic stuff is a load of shite but the main body of political stuff did occur. by the way, pro-treatyites weren't and aren't moronic IRA followers..(er that'd be fianna faillers and dev maniacs...maybe u didn't notice Fianna Fáil's slogan-"The Republican Party").its because of the dipshits in fianna fail that we're in the mess that we're in.dev stifled the economic progress of this county for 40 yrs or so with his egotistical policies.

  • Yes, the SMLE (short[1] magazine[2] Lee[3] Enfield[4]) was a bolt action operated rifle.

    1) short, as it was a universal service rifle, replacing both carbines and infantry rifles.

    2) fitted with a 10-round, double staggered box magazine, although detachable, meant to be loaded by means of 2 5 round clips.

    3) Lee, a Scots-American designer (the magazine and some pats of the locking mechanism)

    4) Enfield, arsenal where the rifling pattern used for the cordite charged cartriges was develloped

  • Yeah slight issues there! Harry Boland dead in hospital.

  • @MrMe345 yeah a harry lee enfield thats the name of teh gun they never figured out who killed him

  • Up the Ra lol some film

  • This turning point gives the movie somewhat the shape of a true tragedy: In the bitter conflict between the idealist and pragmatic factions follows the common struggle for independence the bitter infighting of a civil war; save to blame England for all the movie blames Éamon de Valera quite a lot for the outbreak of the hostilities; and to defy the will of the people expressed in free elections is treason indeed.

  • omg is that it?? appreciate you doing the upload but ah this waiting is desperate

  • some film.
