  • This is just an awesome amp!!!

I'm getting one the next month ;)

  • These amps are versatile. I use a boost pedal in front and shred all day long.

  • What happens when I'm mid-song and I want to switch between blues and burn? D:

  • I'd love to hear you do the same for the Express 5:25 1x12 combo... Please!

  • God every mesa has such "tight" crunch. The distortion is unmatched.

  • I own this amp. Love both channels, though I'll admit I'm not a big fan of the contour knob. Too scooped sounding when turned above 2.

  • It is a nice warm tone. I think the scarf helps with the warmth.

  • I have a 5:25 Express and it can do jazz or high gain metal. Maybe not HIGHEST gain metal. But it is extremely flexible and versatile. I love this amp.

  • such warm tone

  • I just got this amp and i love it!!!!!Thanks Mesa!!!! you guys rock!!

  • I got 5:25 10" Simply awesome! :-)

  • @meyerfilms, he has a humbucker in the bridge position of that strat. I betcha

He is using it for the high gain stuff.

  • @pistonhurricane97 You can see the humbucker when he moves his elbow out of the way...

  • I just tested one today...It's incredible!!!

  • 2:20 Holy shit! I didn't know you could get that kind of sound with single coils. This amp's definitely on the list of "things to buy when the band kicks off and I have money out the ass."

  • @MeyerFilms He's using an HSS American Deluxe Strat. Those sounds that don't sound like single coils probably aren't single coils. :)

  • @MeyerFilms That strat had a humbucker my friend...look closer

  • Just tried this amp at GC and it is AMAZING for such a small amp... I still prefer the Clean sound of a Deluxe Reverb, but the Express can do so much more !

  • what kind of dumbass gave a negative vote?

    blasphemy.

  • is this amp any good for metal? with a 7-string...

  • @EmilFinnas94 The great thing about Mesas is that you can do just about anything with them and sound amazing while doing it. So in a word, yes.

  • @EmilFinnas94 while a rectifier would probably be better for metal, I would say this amp provides more than enough gain, and wouldn't sound muddy.

  • I own and love this amp. Mine looks a little diffierent...... Wide body chasis. Some of the switches are configured differently as well. A tone machine if ever there was!

  • i am definetely getting this one!!

mesa keep on the incredible work!

  • mesa nailed it with this amp.. you need this amp and a 4x12 for gigging.. can't go wrong!

  • Mesa, you guys rock!

  • nice chops bro

  • Hi there Marcus.

Well: also thanks to your vid I'm now the proud owner of a 5:25 12", in Vanilla and Tan. It looks and it sounds great.

Could you let us all know which sound settings your're using? The ones from the manual or something else? You would do me and a lot of others a huge favour!!!

    Thx, Rob

  • So does the contour just scoop out the middle / boost the lower-mid and treble?

  • @danglingslong pretty much

  • This video demo is amazing because I've got the same exact amp and same guitar setup. It's the 2x12 5:50 Mesa combo and a Fender Deluxe Strat with humbuckers and S1 switching.... 3 tone sunburst with a maple fretboard just like the one in this video. Love the way the two go together.

  • dude, is this a combo 2x12? or 1x12?

  • just picked one of these up... great sounding amp, but theres a constant hiss at higher gain levels. need to get a noise gate soon... the sounds are amazing once you have it dialed in properly tho

  • What is the head model closest to this?

  • @Whyrendog well... don't you think it will be mesa express 5:50 head?

  • @MrVoid77 ... you can go wrong with a rectoverb. i did, after all. great if all you play is nu-metal all day, every day.

  • incluid REVERB?

  • Great demo! can you please tell wether the footswitch pedal comes with the amp or it has to be bought seperately ? and what is the footswitch name?

  • oh well i just found a link on the mesa boogie website about the footswitches but is it not possible to use other mesa boogie footswitches with express 550 combo amp ?

  • I could watch this demo all day. Incredible tone!

  • Every demo presenter ever should learn from this guy.

  • Great demo, great amp, great playing and information. Thanks! Deciding between this and the Electro Dyne. Cannot go wrong either way!! LOL. :P

  • @joshyboy152 i'm kinda wishing that aswell

  • best playing i've ever seen on a demo video

  • i am really close to buying this amp, though i might get the 2-12 is there enough gain for playing things like "joe satriani-surfing with the alien" i also play lots of dream theater, and heavy riffs which involves pinch harmonics, would this amp be enough?

    thanks in advance :)

  • @gkl5gkl5 yes, this amp can do all of that.

  • great video man...

  • which pickup does he have on the strat?

  • looks like the standard fender stock pickups

  • @Incub090 He's using the stock HSS Strat.

  • Higher wattage Isn't about getting louder its about headroom... You would never even come close to using 100-150W on the dual / triple rectos its all about headroom.

  • Do you know the wattage myth? If you got a 10 watt amp then you would need to buy a 100 watt amp if you want to get an amp that is twice as loud. And from 100 watt you would need to get a 1000 watt amp if you want it to be twice as loud as that. This means that 40 watts is only about 16% louder than a 25% amp, if my calculations are correct. The point is that the difference is so insignificant that you wouldn't hear a difference. btw You mic the amp for big gigs, no need for a high wattage amp.

  • I'm getting the 5:25 express Head :) You don't really need 50 watts :P 25 is enough even for big gigs..

  • i see it the same way, but concider, that u just might want the power tubes of the 50 =)

  • Yes, most definitely loud enough.

  • Was that train a Mesa Boogie's train?

  • I own this amp and it is amazing! The burn does not get up to recto levels though! Its loud even at 5 watts!

  • Is the 5:50 with a 1x12 speaker loud enough to play at gigs?

  • I'm pretty sure it is.

  • @thebridge94.... Its more then enough, lol. I usally dont turn my volume past 4 at practice, and past 6 at shows.

  • yes. the 5:25 is not

  • i see what your saying... but they would to have had to make this thing a 4 channel amp if you wanted to be able to switch from the clean mode on channel 1 to the crunch mode but it works fine for everyone else so stop complaining and go get a 4 channel amp if thats what u want

  • how much this amp cust

  • Anyone know what tubes are in this amp? Are they 6L6's?

  • there are 2 6L6 tubes and 5 12AX7 tubes

  • are the 5:25 loud enough for jamming with drums

  • Absolutely ;)

  • absolutely.

  • tube amps are always capable of playing loud, no matter what wattage.

  • I find the wattage in tube amps to be basically just the amount of clean headroom you have, because if you plug a little 5 watter into a 4x12 cab, it WILL kick you in the balls, but it wont be clean at all. Tube amps are sweet!

  • Definitely man, 25 watts of tubes is VERY loud.

  • great demo!

  • the first thing i look for in an amp is whether or not it has a good clean tone. if it doesn't, i don't care how good the drives are, I'm not interested. this amp has AWESOME cleans and AMAZING drives. i want. now

  • cool, i think the same way

  • clean powers drive, it has to start from the beginning,

  • well said

  • @xdivinebladex That is so true, any decent overdrive can give you endless od posibilities but you need a great clean template to start with. Thats why the Mesa Lonestar is the best amp in the world, Lonestar plus bb pre amp=why did I bother with all the multi channel amps!!

  • @xdivinebladex I agree, I played on the 5:50 with a standard strat' yesterday and the sound was awesome ! But Mesa Boogie is expensive U.u ...

  • Dude, that contour knob dimed adds SOOOO much definition it's unreal. I stayed away from it because generally I hate scooped mids, but damn...

  • when it says class A on 5 watt mode, does that mean it only has 1 chanell on 5 watts?

  • Nope. Both channels running in class A. Completely rewires the power section.

  • So basically the Contour knobs on the amp scoop your mids? At least that's what I got from it.

  • yeah pretty much. Scoops the mids and emphasizes the highs and lows as well.

  • this video is alot better than guitar worlds

  • I really like this amp, but I practice shred as well as other styles and Im not sure this would be the right amp for me?

  • u could use pedals with it!

  • You could do shred on this amp, mattacuk. However, OZZYS808 is right, you could use pedals with it.

  • Do you mean that it sounds as good with pedals as with its own channels?

  • I mean that pedals work well with this amp, udayvirgarg22

  • Okay. Thanks! :D

  • dude, this gets as much gain as you could ever need. Crank the gain on channel 2 and it muds up like a marshall but when you roll off the bass it gets tighter and super heavy on the gain with sustain for days.

Dont plan on pytaling this in your bedroom and not pissing the rest of the house off unless the house is pretty big. It's loud on 5 watt mode too.

  • Well, I have the 5:25 with EL84's but I played them both loud in the store for like an hour off in the back where I had free reign.

The 5:25 does plenty unless you are going to be competing with an all tube halfstack and a drummer playing metal, but this will play with a full drum set and a loud drummer no problem.

  • that blues mode lick at 140 is awesome!

  • Totally agree!

  • that crunch thing sure isnt clean

  • mesa express 5:50 + PRS mira = sex!

  • What is the best way to switch powers?

Is it necessary to completely turn off the amp?

  • Yay for tone!

  • Sure I'll send you the money. I'll just need your bank account number. ;D

  • Nice demo Marcus.

Can you post also other demos, e.g. LSS or Mark V?

Let people hear the versatility and the great sound of Mesa amps.

  • OMG YES!!

  • fantastic and verstile switch between 50W for stage and 5W for small studio
