despite having a slower main cpu and much less ROM space than this arcade board, the SNES has a ridiculously powerful sound engine for its day. But it has limitations too. If you listen to the arcade, the drum sample is much longer noise and a bit cleaner, and the SNES is a very short drum hit with fewer tom-tom tones.
AT 4:15 ,stay at the top of the screen, but just a little way down, after you destroy the generators and the next gun/bullet shooting things come on screen ,just position yourself so they fire horizontally at you but have your ship a pixel below their bullet.
It will pass just over your cockpit and go through your tail, but you will be able to hit them, now just move back ,so you are under your score or the 1P ,now you can stay in that area and those bouncy things will just go over you
@1dosucol1 Now just by moving your ship left or right a bit in that area you will be immune to everything,as the slowdown will kick in and you will be able to easily dodge the bazillion bullets, and the ones from the ceiling guns will just skim over the top of your cockpit ,just as long as you are in the specific area and at that correct height.
Took me ages to perfect that on the ps2 version on difficulty 3/4 without a shield and no power ups .Feels good when you get it down.
I'm not sure. I've never really played the SNES version on Arcade mode.
In addition, I'm pretty sure there are two versions of the SNES game. On my original SNES cartridge, Arcade mode looked like the Arcade demo (hold A throughout the title screen and intro sequence until the demo starts), where killing enemies would produce a lot of suicide bullets. However, when I emulated the ROM, enemies didn't fire suicide bullets in Arcade mode. o_O
The SNES one is a joke compared to this game. I'm not saying that it's not hard. The arcade version of Gradius III just throws the book at you from level 2 onward.
its just capacity issue, lol i remember when too man bullets or too many enemies on screen (water level) the game turned really slow i cant imagine the snes handling all this graphics. but what im saying its not official its just my deduction. the arcade version of grad III was released on ps2 with grad IV. check my guitar cover of fire scramble :) thx
The Arcade version is the same way; it also slows down in level 2 practically the entire time (this is a good thing, though, because it's helpful). And the difficulty of the SNES version is insane on Arcade mode, cleomagoolando. It's only on the Easy and Normal difficulty settings you'd want to say the SNES version's difficulty is a joke compared to the Arcade version.
Absolutely, Hard is definitely easier than the Arcade version. I just mean when the SNES version's Arcade mode/difficulty is set, the difficulty is nearly the same as the Arcade version.
You're really good at this game. I've been playing Gradius 3 on my Gradius III & IV Collection for PS2 and this stage is about as far as I can get. It sucks to watch me play because I have stage 1 completely memorized and know how to react to everything but I choke on stage 2 and can't do well on stage 3 if I make it there because I've lost my powerups from getting blown up by then.
At least the music's nice though, isn't it? Seriously though, I remember getting seriously depressed over this game in the Gradius III&IV PS2 pack; its crushing when you can't 1cc past the second or third level in a game after six hours!
Upgrade your copy of MAME to .108. It is much better. New rendering engine was added at .107. Not sure of Mame32 is at .108 or not, because I use command line.
awsome video, Always wanted to play the arcade version. But i must say, I like the voice of the snes beter:) (you know: speed up, option, etc)
This sounds a bit ... uhm... dull

Watching you play is inspiring; Even though I reasonably know that there's no way I'll get this far in the arcade version.

interesting subtle differences between this one and the SNES version. The SNES version's music is a big improvement though.

Don't forget that the hi-speed level right after you destroy Big Core MkIII counts as a level!

Hardest game ever...and i've beaten many fucked up games.
For instance, the american version of contra hard corps is a walk in the park compared to this game, really.

Your pretty good at this game. I especially liked the part where youstilled the short but challenging 3d stage with no problems at all.

I've been playing this game since I was in 2nd grade (I'm in 8th grade) and I'm still on loop 3!

that game's absoloute bullshit... Nice video!

Yeah it is bullshit ;). I'm not even sure I'll ever be able to get through some of the later levels without saving in the middle :P.

the problem i always had was the save state the visual became all over the place and was 10 times harder to see where you where going..
Jasmini 5 years ago
Thank you for the comments and information! :)
If MAME32 v0.95 save-states still work in later versions, then I probably should switch to them.
I haven't really started trying to capture loop 2 stage 3 yet. But I imagine it will take quite a while...
