the other passage you referred to "the meek will inherit the earth" is not understood in today's culture as it was meant in 1516. The word meek had the understanding of humble, or compassionate, not impoverished, or second class citizen. Your comments and questions are all great. I understand completely the traditional but misinformed view that the Bible itself teaches slavery as a good thing. The passages you quoted were not in support of slavery, but showing the already enslaved (in roman culture) how to rise above their situation and to show love through obedience, as Christ showed love even to death on the cross. It pains me to read history and see the manipulation of men to use these verses to keep another race down.

This life is a vapor, our kingdom is in eternity. You have to have your mind set on the life after this one where it will last forever. In this life we are dying ever second.
In the next life we will live forever, either in the presence of our Lord and savior our lost without him.
When you begin to think from an eternal perspective then it all makes sense.

Most do not know the true translations of most of the words and that the bible stories all have roots in ancient kemet and some even before that. I am a rasta who does not have locks, does not eat meat(no fish) and i view Selassie as my link to higher powers within and without of myself and i don't need the bible to justify Selassie because he is justified of himself. When Selassie was revealed to Howell, he was viewed as a redeemer for black people. Selassie was their answer to the oppressive state of economics, religion, government etc. Someone to call our own. They weren't followers of the bible. What happened was that people saw Rasta resisting oppression and were attracted to it but they were Christians so they came to Rasta but brought their religious views and the bible so over time tey became entrenched in the teachings.

This is how I see it. There is a similarity between the plight of the Jews during the times of Pharoah and the plight of the black man in the "New World".
