This is one of those songs that sounds much older than it actually is. Like it was recorded in the 60's, placed in a time capsule and not unearthed until many many years later.
I'm not a big Belle and Sebastian fan, but I really like this.
Honest to God, truly one of the best songs ever written-how this never got to number one baffles me to this day! Just shows you the taste of the majority....tragic...still, fantastic stuff
It is meloncholic! That is to say it makes you feel sad but in a warm and comforting safe way, well, something like that anyway. Check out Camera Obscura for more of the same! In this song Monica thingie makes it, the way she belts it out man. Wow!!
Haven't heard it in ages, but can't stop listening to it now. Its fexcellent. Where are the other songs like this in the world? The keys are . . . . . . . . . . its a word for exceptionally good and I think it genius the way that they . . . . counterpoint (? not quite sure if that is correct) with the bass. They lyrics are nifty too. So are the vocals . . . . hey . . . . . . . it is such a mishmash of all the great things music does and can do. Its an oldish overlooked great and takes me back.
It's nice that someone finally posted the whole video on here (too bad about the 5 seconds of iffy quality in the middle, though), but I love this song so much. The part where she spray-paints over Stuart's shirt and he just stares blankly for a few seconds is priceless! Though I must say, that is one hot piano player.
This is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. I love Monica Queen's vocals.

The songs as well produced as the video is, what a good session in the studio could have done with this......
Awesome keyboard and that chord change at the end is stunning stunt.
LLJ's chest is another stunning moment in the video too..........
:D

Pristine production doesn't suit every song

I agree. THis song was recorded in a church and I think that really lifts the song...it gives it an almost ethereal quality to it. Majestic!
