  • ITS ABOUT TIME!!! SHE IS SAVED!!!

  • personally i feel both of these ships are national treasures and should be saved. i would absolutely love to see the united states permanently moored and put to some use, much like the queen mary was in California. it would be a tragedy to see this legendary ship end up like her sister or any of the other ships that are left to nature or taken to india for the breakers.

  • Mayor Nutter is an idiot... The USS Olympia is the most important ship on the Philadelphia waterfront. Olympia is going to sink at its moorings in the next 3 to 5 years if nothing is done, but apparently no one cares about it. Don't get my wrong though, the SS United States is important and needs to be saved too.

  • looks too far gone to save

  • My parents were on this ship! See the story at LadyRider2007 - Gertrude Kerschner's Life Story - Thank you :)

  • Philly now needs somebody like Donald Trump to start shining her up--or pennies from kids across the USA--that will work too--whatever gets the job done. Will she be a floating hotel/museum like the Queen Mary??

  • She IS worth keeping and saving.

  • This ship is part of our national history, technology and pride. It needs to be saved. C'mon millionaires and billionaires.

  • @windstorm1000, hope it stays in Philly and they dock it at Penns landing across from the saved USS New Jersey in Camden. Those two ships side by side would be an amazing site. It sits just a few miles south of Penn's landing.

  • @windstorm1000 I agree with you one hundred percent. The SS United States is a national treasure which belongs to this wonderful country.

  • no one builds the turbines and propulsion equipment needed to power it anymore its fit only to be used as a hotel like the old queen mary

  • Hey my fellow dumbfuck americans......this is a piece of history. Ummm SAVE IT.

  • scrap it it is long past restoring now and finding the crews who know how to run it is impossible it has old steam turbines and ancient support and auxillary systems it will take hundreds of millions to rebuild cheaper to build a new ship

  • @emjaytwelve New ships dont have near the class nor the strength of the Steam Liners.

  • @emjaytwelve yes, it will be a lot of money. but a new ship wouldn't have the memories that this one does for transatlantic visitors from around the world. don't you see why they are saving her??? it'll also draw millions of visitors to the philly waterfront. why not be a little more optimistic?

  • A State or country not able and willing to preserve such a magnificent piece of shipbuilding should be exempted from any future historical pieces.

So this is a good sign. Now the rest. A complete refurbishment could run into a 100 million US$ or more.

  • Back in the late fifties l was fortunate enough to be given a tour of the SS United States when she was docked in Southhampton, UK. she was a beautiful thing to see and l can't tell you how glad l am that she is to be saved. However, given todays maritime insurance and shipping regulations l doubt we will see her in service again. But to see her renovated as a heritage ship and given her own berth would suit me. She and the 'Mary' are the last true classic liners and deserve dignity and respect.

  • @crankbv1 Absolutely.

  • I'm so happy they saved her!!!! She is such a beautiful ship.:) We love you SS United States!!!!! May you live on for the many decades to come.:D

  • I love when we respect and honor our past! Let us never allow the S.S. United States decay any further. Let us bring her back to her rightful place as our pride and glory sailing the ocean blue. God Bless all of the people who spend their money to save this majestic ship, especially the man who invested millions of dollars. :-)

  • If only the S.S. American Star was beside the S.S. United States. But oh well the American star is gone in Fuerteventura, Spain. It would be good to see it beside the ship then it would be excellent to see. But ships do get old, no doubt about that.

  • I have one question: What are they going to do with this boat? If no one has any ideas, I do. Lets restore it, as a private yacht for the Wall Street Banksters. Take 'em on a maiden cruise, far out to sea, and sink it, with them on it. Just like they are sinking the great country this ship is named after. Ya?

  • @SuperTitanicfreak your parents really did a number on you. "i will spend 9/11 with Titanic " good no one will miss you mile and a half under the sea perhaps you should stay there.

  • Once she is Restored i would definately sail on her.

  • Awesome. This is what we were waiting for this ship... So happy to see this.

  • I am a Man! Because of what you said, my days of playing soldier with you kids of America, are done. I now live only for Ocean Liners. And that includes all American Liners except for Ugly U. Fuck you, fuck united states, & fuck this country, you shitfucker! I WILL burn Ugly U. I will restore Queen Mary's tainted name. The lives of our troops mean absolutely nothing to me. Oh, & I know the anniverasy of 9/11's coming, but I WILL not remember it. I will spend 9/11 with TITANIC. So there!

  • @SuperTitanicfreak "I am a Man!" LOL - of all the stupid things you've said this is the most ridiculous. The last thing you'd be described as is a man. You're a greasy, dirty mouthed low bred low rent little punk kid. It's likely not your fault entirely - probably the parents you were unlucky enough to be born to. I expect your mother probably speaks the same way you do. Try to lift yourself above their standards. You're here because you're not welcome in general society aren't you ?

  • @SuperTitanicfreak ya know what i hope the queen mary has the same fate as the queen elizabeth.

    LONG LIVE THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @theajshowification You bad Mother.... Shut your mouth! how dare you say something like that. That make me HATE Ugly U even more. You bad rude motherfucker! Go to HELL! And take Ugly U with you, & all those who love united states. Long Live Queen Mary! Down with the bloody united states! I want to see Ugly U BURN!!! Save your GOD DAMN united states, I hope you can rebuilt her once I destroy her. united states, Pearl Horbor, 9/11, No American history means anything to me. GO ROT IN HELL!!!!!!!

  • @SuperTitanicfreak take easy man ist just a ship

  • @theajshowification Ok both of you just want to make me puke down your throats.

  • @SuperTitanicfreak Settle down!! Queen Mary does not have a ' tainted name'--she is sitting comfortably in Long Beach w millions of visitors who love her as you do. She helped get 1000's of U.S. troops 2 England for the Allied Cause. Who among these poster's (except the ignortant & stupid) will doubt her deserved fame in world history for the fight of freedom? Now the United States will join her. If we can love 'your' beloved Queen M., love 'ours'! There is room for both!!

  • You can call me every gutter name in the book. I'm not changing my view. My loyalty lies with the Queen Mary. Heh heh heh heh, hehehehe. HA HA HA HA HA! I have already sold my soul to the Great Ocean Liners, including Queen Mary. I am willing to denounce my bond with this country, just to be with them. Enjoy her while you can, losers. Mark my words, united states will BURN!!!! And she will be scrapped. And I will only be too happy when that happens. she is a worthless piece of shit.

  • @SuperTitanicfreak BITCH UNITED STATES STANDS TALL FOREVER IT WILL NOT BURN MAYBE I CAN BURN U LITERALLY DUMBASS AND ALSO UR DUMBASS QUEEN MARY IS A WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT TOO NIGGER SO GO SUCK A COCK BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAYYOOOOOOOOOTCH

  • @OMEGA87975 Don't engage him in a argument--you love the Queen Mary as we all do-she was a big friend of the u.s. in world war II. She's beautiful and pumps millions of dollors into Long beach economy. He'll see the light---I don't know what that limey's problem is.

  • Well the RMS Titanic was built in Belfast/Ireland so shit on you then SuperTitanicfreak. One Iceberg and the gone.

  • @SuperTitanicfreak ASSHOLE LIMEY FUCK!!!

  • @SuperTitanicfreak So let me get this straight. You hate a ship.......T_T

I hope you can see how fucking stupid you look right now.

  • @SuperTitanicfreak SHUT UP U ASSHOLE! THE SS UNITED STATES IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE QUEEN MARY

  • @Gamerfrk100 Oh, please, they are both beautiful ships. Lets get along saving what's left of the big ships and stop bickering.

  • clearly not the best liner ever built though haha

  • Not a moment to soon..any one knows the plans for this beautiful liner? In what state is she when it comes to interiour.? When wss her hull laters measured fot thickness? Good Luch to the big U from Henrik in Sweden

  • will she get her original props back?

  • Now great Lady has a Future!

  • 2-1-2011 She was sold today, to be rebuilt to original for voyage, man paid 3million, I will be on first voyage no matter what it takes,no shit, ive loved this ship since i worked on Del Ave, and she was towed in from france.France right? So many have bought her and never did nothing, im praying this man does it! it s looking good!

  • Hey just curious, but do they still let people on the ship? Or what...?

  • S/S=Save Ship.

    Thanks great clip.

    BangkokJohnny

    Royaume de Thailande

  • Don't hold your breath! Aluminum is scrapping out at like $4 per pound.

$5.8 million isn't a drop in the bucket to what it will take to restore this.

As an American I'm happy of course, but we've got so much more

SERIOUS problems to worry about than a gutted old hulk.

If they'll let you, just take walk around the decks of the ship. Everything

that made it the SS United States is GONE! Hope these aren't more

profiteers like the last guy who sold off all the furniture & fittings.

  • @4freespeech Most of the furniture was saved and is currently at Windmill Point in Kitty Hawk, NC

  • @4freespeech

In some ways the SS United States is in better condition that the RMS Queen Mary. Sure the Queen Mary has her interiors but she doesn't have her engines while the United States does. This ship comes from a time when the United States was the world leader in so many fields, not a leader in medocaty and what is crass and vulgar like today. I would say to you look to your countries past and you will find a path to it's future.

  • i hope that this ''beauty'' will stay alive.

    greetings from europe!

  • They should give cruises on it

  • I am happy she has been given a new lease on life.....for now. But,she still has a long way to go.

  • I was there at the conference! I can still remember where I was that day!!!

  • this is soooooo great!!! :))

  • i cried when i hear the news, this lady will NOT fade! she'll remain in the US where she belongs!

  • wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 SO HAPPY CAN'T CONTAIN EXCITMENT! :D wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOtttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 OK IM OUT OF TEXT

  • : ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YAY!

  • I'm happy that this ship is saved, first off. BUT, I honestly love our Royal Mail Steamer Queen Mary, and consider HER the greatest, and most beautiful liner in our waters. Her history is unmatched, and she once carried over 16,000 troops during one voyage- A record that is still held by her today. THIS ship is beautiful too. Liners from this bygone era were the most majestic, and hope you will cherish her , as We here in SoCal cherish our lady Queen =-)

  • Thats brilliant news. So does the conservancy now actually 'own' the Big U? Anybody know what the plans are for it?

    W E L L D O N E ! ! !

  • I arrived to this video by accident but I cannot tell you how immensily happy I am of learning this news. I am not an American, I have never seen her but this vessel is very meaningful to me. I am so happy

  • I was watching on streaming video. Having a celebration today! HOORAY! Let's just keep donating. We must ensure her PRESERVATION FOR POSTERITY!

  • Me too, and I think it's a historic moment not only for ship lovers, but for anyone who

love vintage cruise ships in which gets like you said "PRESERVATION FOR POSTERITY in which vintage ships like the S.S. United States. I sailed on the S.S.

Independence before she broke in two & sank. Just a week ago, I think.....I live in

Honolulu, Hawaii & I see both old and new ships everyday. And I love my job!!!!

  • this is a quick montage of the event..held in South Philadelphia on Thursday, July 1, 2010
