May I ask which water pump you used? I've been looking for one that is inline and pumps in both directions, but without much luck... they seem to be pump-in-one-direction-only type. Pumping water out of a (submerged) tank tends to leave a vacuum, which most water pumps can not handle.
This is a great/simple idea and one I will be looking at for prototyping sub systems. How did you water-proof the insides to prevent water from getting in through the prop shaft etc? Or did it even matter?
@getmeoutofiraq05 No, there were no plans exciting at the time I started the project. The submarine you see in this video has came fully out of my own head. Designing the sub completely out of scratch was a challenge, but not an impossible one.
This is FANTASTIC! Bravo!!! I have been researching RC Submarines for more than a year now and this is the BEST idea for it's price. I have learnt a lot from you through this video. Self proclaimed experts , please take note, this guy can teach you how to do it for a fraction of the price. Thanks a ton!

Pump is placed right under the snorcle. When you want to emerge, extra water is discarded from the water tank the same way it got there: trough the water pump. The pump can be controlled to suck water in the water tank and to remove it from there to outside of the sub.
Yes, it can be made with 3 channel controller and receiver. One channel for the motor, one for the water pump and one for the rudder. Just make sure that water pump can be operated two ways.

@WhatDoesThisButtonDo
The water pump I used was Robbe's model number 1-1568.
There were not any specific systems to keep the water out from the hull and there are some small leaks because of that.
