I am a panamanian pleased to read all your comments and opinions ( I assume the most of you are a US-americans) that shows that the perception people around the world has about the US is only represented by a little few that have the power. You can make a change!
I love john perkins views and stories as much as the next guy, but..I got to thinking...Just because he admits what he did, that makes it okay? John perkins talks about how we should change. Is he doing anything to make up for financially, raping countires? If not...isn't he just as bad as the people he worked for?
@tigerone1970 i dont know if you've seen the interview where hes on the news, but he's not neccessarily putting his life on the line. Logically, in his books and in interviews he talks about U.S jackals and multiple political leaders being assassinated, but he himself said, which gave him the wisdom courage and strength to do it, is because if anyone kills him, especially after revealing all of this, then everyone would DEFINITELY know something is wrong, and hell would break loose.
There are a lot of suspicious 'suicides' of people who have spoken out against these kinds of activities. Whether it is Gary Webb (Iran-Contra-Los Angeles) who exposed the cocaine side of Iran Contra. Or Hunter S. Thompson.
@tigerone1970 I have to show my Grandma this.... she needs to know... I also need to show my the Panama. I know for sure she would be Pissed at and Call her Family in Panama about this.
Corporate empire built upon insatiable greed and a total disregard for basic human rights. The USA are by far the worst perpetrators of terrorism in the world. Saddam was a saint compared to Reagan and the Bush family. If the USA wants to support freedom, liberty and democracy they can direct their efforts to Africa instead of raping and pillaging the oil of middle eastern and south american nations who do not share their desire for globalization (translation: slavery).
Absolutely. You know, the United States could be doing so much good around the world, if it's foreign policy had not been hijacked by the corporations. If it applied it's domestic policy principles abroad, you wouldn't see most of the anti-American sentiment throughout the world.
Most people just want to create a middle class lifestyle for themselves. When they find this blocked by local elites, they rebel.
But these rebellions are made much more deadly and prolonged by US support for those elites. The support for Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Rhodesia, Vietnam have all been in vain, and have damaged America's image - and it should never have happened in my opinion.
Because the principles of the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights are all fantastic documents.
If those were consistently applied in foreign policy, everything would be different.
Knowing the founding principles of the USA, why would they support Apartheid, instead of the ANC - which is in power today? Why not support Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, who are trying to uplift their people - which is true Democracy - instead of these tiny colonial elites, that keep the raw materials going instead of paying market price for them and helping them develop?
I think it is all about a strategic vision that is pro-middle class , versus short term gain.

John Perkins is putting his life on the line by speaking out.
I think that is as much as, or more than you can ask from anyone.

John Perkins is a brave American exposing what past US presidents have authorized that are shameful uses of our taxpayer dollars.
