She wasn't qualified at the time but she got in! Just like many colleges & jobs today allow these so called minorities to get a job or get into a college EVEN THOUGH they're NOT qualified! Sotomayor makes assumptions about race that are untrue. She thinks that all white males are somehow privileged. I'm white, and I grew up poor, and I can tell you that is simply untrue. There is a much greater stigma attached to being poor than to being a certain ethnicity. The GOP infected itself with the Christian Right of the South, which bases it's conservatism on "God fearing" and racism.
States rights ideology was born in 1968 as a way for the Right to bitch that they shouldn't have to treat Blacks right.
The Right also adopted a blanket Christian ideology, which is the exact opposite of conservatism, but they could organize their votes, so the GOP stopped listening to logic.

Yes. The South was solidly Democratic until the 1964 Presidential election. African Americans were solidly Republicans.
But because it was a Democratic President who helped the Civil Rights Movement, Southern Whites and Blacks switched parties and the influences and stereotypes associated with each party switched too.
In ONE election cycle, the South went from solid Blue to solid Red, under Barry Goldwater.

Why is the Latina chick saying that her EXPERIENCES as a Latina woman make her more qualified to make rulings in a court system that is unfair to her people considered racist?
Isn't racism about "I'm smarter, better..."
How is admitting the obvious "I'm different.." the same as that? Moreso, she is saying "I'm different, I've been on the side that lives with the FLAWS of the system, so I know what's worth changing."

Being Latina isn't the point. The point is that she comes from a sector of America that has been abused by the Justice System, thus, how else is that System going to change if not by having more POVs.
Poor whites are also abused by the system. Her story, if told by a white woman, would be just as dynamic a tale of raising above the flaws of the system to be a VERY GOOD JUDGE.
The mistakes of our government have been because of it being in the hand of the true minority: white protestant men.
