I did look into that a while back according to wiki information (which isn't always correct) Interplay/Black Isle wanted to make another D&D based games but their licence only let them make BG games as Atari have the licence to make D&D. So the game was going to be a brand new story but use the BG name.
"Baldur's Gate 3: The Black Hound" was it's name. It took place in the outer planes after your' character had ascended to godhood. The endind cinematic of BG 2: ToB hinted at it. Unfortunately, Interplay shut down Black Isle Studios before it was able to complete the third game. Black Isle Studios was the only company with the rights to make the "Baldur's Gate" series.
Ah Baldur's Gate, a true classic. Sarevok rulzors (and taz0k too of course). But definitly NOT the BEST game EVER, for that is Planescape:Torment, it is the same genre and engine but with a LOT deeper story. It also got INSANE high reviews on IMDb.
Original Baldur's Gate was the shiz. *is a GIRL who plays it* It was so awesome. Love, love, love. Although I like the second one, too. Although to me it seemed a little short.. Meh. Dunno why.
I've played the first one, gotten past it, Shadows of Amn, gotten past it. Throne of Bhaal, gotten past it. And now I need to install Day of Darkness so I can get past it. ^^
I've been through SoA so many times.. Meh. I got past it in eight hours once! XP At least Imoen wasn't as whiny.. >_>
Baldur's Gate II ruled... I never played the original. Baldur's Gate II though... oh my, what a game! Intrigue, romance, betrayal... it was intoxicating.

Multiplayer doesn't work because of the incompatibility with the directx. You have to install a special patch, just google for "directx bg patch"

Ahh, baldur's gate. ^^ I have the first one still but my BG2 got lost in a move. ;_; I'm saving to buy the whole pack, expansions included. :purr:
I love bg2, if only for Jan Jansen and the fun you get pairing Minsc with that talking sword. ^^
I didn't really like planescape... :/ Just my opinion though.

A Baldur's Gate Compilation is coming by the end of June, and it will include the first and second part plus the two expansions :)

I think Bioware still stock the game, they have also just released duel game packs for all of Black Isles games.
BG was a fantastic series and still my faveorite RPG, now we just have to wiat for Atari to tell us more about BG II and hope they dont screw it up.
