  • Damn good job on the save. I would have changed my drawers after that.

  • They're caused by the front wheel and back wheel becoming misaligned, so I'd say you made a pretty good diagnosis. As long as you didn't hurt your self or anyone else, it is a good recovery in my book.

  • well held

  • F-ing hondas man, I used to get tank slapper regularly when I had hondas. The fronts are just too quick... From my 600"s to my 1000's same thing. Once I went to Yamaha and Suzuki, tank slappers where a thing of the past. I would never ride a honda with out a damper..

  • Like a boss

  • Hell of a save

  • damn nice save man. i would have had to check my pants after that 1. good job

  • This made my heart race. HATE tank slappers!

  • Ok so I own a 2005 zx-10 which is notorious for tank slappers and as I understood they happen because the front end gets too light. So what I always do is let the throttle slam shut to get the weight on the front tire and slide forward on the seat so if you spoke with knowledgable riders are they suggesting that you don't slide forward if I understand correctly? Or else maybe I'm thinking of a speed wobble from accelerating

  • O_O

  • Kudos....he held it. :D

  • Get a steering damper.

And if you are in a tank slapping moment, RELAX.

Even if you "know" you're gonna bite the dust, try to relax. For gods sake, relax and let the bike sort itself out.

The bike is very good at stabalizing itself, it doesn't need the rider to try and hold the bars still. In fact, doing so can disturb the bike, making the tank slapper even worse.

There's no guarantees that you'll save it even IF relaxing during a slapper, but it's hellova lot better then stiffening up. =)

  • Great save, scary shit.

  • whooow, impressive that you did not fall. How??

  • Nice save bro, that shit looked harsh.

  • Comment removed

  • I used to get head shake like this when I was moto-crossing sometimes. Scares the hell out of you and basically you are just along for the ride. Nice save man.

  • i have crashed last year like this on the road with a 600 cbr rr 06 in 1rst gear... within 1 or 2 sec i was fighting the curb on the left and i lost

broken collar bone, broken arm and broken femur.

  • I had my first tank slapper at the track last weekend. It wasn't nearly as bad as yours, but still plenty fucking scary. I managed to keep it on two wheels, so I was happy.

    Great job not wrecking!

  • Ahh I hate tank slappers. Good recovery. Get yourself a Scotts and get back out there. My ZX10R is much more stable thanks to the Scotts damper.

  • You are an amazingly skilled to rider to both hold on to that bike, and keep it upright on the grass at that speed, well done.

  • i shit myself when my ninja did that the first time. im used to it now as it does it all the time.

  • good save mate

    keep it up

    smooth relaxed throttle save hahahaha

  • i would of shit myself lol nice save

  • Nice save.

  • SOB! Great recovery. Now when you get home order that steering dampner and change your underwear!

  • I just became your number 1 fan love your vidz!!

  • borro a calça !!!! KKK

  • Ghost Rider would have pulled a wheelie out the tank slapper and flipped off a cop at the same time

  • Same happend to me on my yamaha yz 125, doing about 55 - 60 offraod and a tank slapper worse than that i still don't know how i saved it. Fkin scary shit man. Good save btw

  • hi there mate i dont want to tell you how to ride but ive found if you dab the back brake when the slapper starts it sits the front end back down i allways ride with my foot over the brake so if this happens a quick dab sorts it out without having to shut off give it a try .

  • That looked so bad, I couldn't believe my eyes, that you made it without being thrown from the saddle! Lucky you!!!

  • i get one of them before the end of my drive on my TLS lol

  • Buy a good steering damper and you wont have this problem again.

  • really hairy give me a gtr vspec anyday well held though respect

  • well held ,did u use the back brake to help stop that

  • first time watching the situation you got yourself into with the grass i thought, 'shit this is a bad situation, one wrong move and you're going down then your babys going to get herself beat up meaning weeks of work and feelings of regret.

you know how you rewatch movies sometimes, and you know the protagonist is going to lose the next fight, yet you find yourself hoping for a miricle win anyway?

well that just happened- and you just won man. that was kickass

  • ur description says a cause was shifting from 2nd to 3rd making the front "light", don't u mean "heavier"?

  • @destined2sleep This is one of the problem with literbikes... when the revs drop from a shift, you're right back in the meat of the powerband (as it should be). However, because they have so damn much power this often leads to the front losing interest in the pavement. The front being "light" is another way of saying "small wheelie" ;)

  • @needknees i think i understand. So the front wheel being lighter, barely touching the tarmac, coupled with the ruts/uneven surface u mentioned caused the tank slapper? It makes sense

  • @destined2sleep exactly. Although that was one of the contributors to the slapper, the #1 cause was me not being light enough on the bars. Had I been more loose on the bike there's a good chance of a few hard shakes then it'd work itself out.

  • @needknees Isn't that so that short uncontinuence on grip of front wheel, and regaining that grip so, that some other than middle section of tire gains the grip first? When kid you all propably have put old tire, taken out of rim, to roll down a steep hill. Most usually it starts wobbling after jumping and so on... Completely same phenomenan.

  • @needknees Well said needknees. I just watched onthethrottle segment where Dave talks about the contributing factors of head shake. Like you said the timing was perfect for it to happen in your case; or in any other case for that matter. Glad you made it.

  • Oh and btw. BIKE SEIZURE OVERLOAD! lol

  • hooooooly shit. same thing happened to me today on my speed four. it was a bumpy back road and i was cornering around 70-80 and the front just hit a bump mid corner and bam. i thought i was going down for sure but i somehow saved it

  • Hell of a save!

Are you in Track Addix? I just got a Ninja, I need to put together all the gear I'll need, but I'd like to try out MPH or MAM sometime when I get the money.

  • I recommend Ohlins steering dampers.... had a simular but not so violent experience on my cb 1000r. Nice save by the way enough adrenaline for that day i say.

  • Holy shit dude! Nice recovery

  • Right before the slapper starts you can hear ebgine doing - gre-gre-gre - bumps on the road. This is why it is started. I has two slappers myself on my zx-12r last saturday on very bumpy road while trying to overtake car. Managed to stop both withiut crashing. They are scary.

  • I have even worse tank slapper yesterday at the speed of 150mph(250km/h). I started to accelerate heavily on the straight road, the road was a little bit bumpy, all my body was moved backwards to hide from the wind under tiny r6 windshield. When I reached the maximum RPM at the gear 5, I loosen a throttle a little and a massive front wheel wobble started. I didn't accelerate, didn't break and I sat normally to slow down the bike with high speed wind hitting my chest. Somehow the shaking stopped.

  • off off off its a good save.. congratiolation..... but may you can crash..

  • you sir are a god. good job, bet you have a chuckle bout it now days.

  • The SAME thing happened to me today (except I was on the street and doing more like 50 or 60.) I was coming out of a slight turn, and shifted up under Heavy throttle. As soon as I shifted the bars started whacking violently back and forth for about 5 seconds. I let off the gas and it stopped(thankfully no cars!) but had no control during the slapper. I thought it might be my suspension settings but I think I agree w/ you: "cold" riding - not loose enough, shifting under hard throttle& turning

  • Wow what a fucking nice reaction .... you are my hero too !

  • to the hater thats giving him advice on what he should have done? its all about saving your self and the bike which he clearly did. there are no rules here, you either save it or go face down.

great job man. ignore these fools

  • Hats off to you, most people would blame it on the machine and buy a tight steering damper, you are improving your riding. A role model in some respects mate

  • holyshit that was fuckin awesome well held hats off!

  • I hope i never get one of these :0

  • OMG!

    You are my hero!

  • Oh, just curious... Do you have a damper on your rig? Usually it snaps the front straight after half a wiggle.

  • Don't listen to the retards on here critiquing your riding. You rode that out like a champ. And you're spot on with your analysis, I just spent all of this past Saturday with speed wobbles on my Supermoto trying to figure out how to get around it (same spot on the track every time) We have a big hump in the middle of our back straight and it happens to be right at my shift point from 3-4th letting off the gas and hammering it after a shift was enough to lift the front and throw me for a ride.

  • oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood !!!!!!! ahahhahahah ....

i got a cbr 600 rr ... it did something like that once, but not that much !!!!! O__O ... good driver !!

  • the HESD is great for street use but you really need something more robust for track duty

  • apart from the tank slapper which happend ona straight when :p you went on the grass you pulled your clutch in quite early why thats a silly thing to do.

  • @MaGicMik3z could you elaborate please? I'm just beginning to ride motorcycles and looking to get all the info I can!

  • @MaGicMik3z I didn't clutch in on the grass till I got down to the corner worker's station. The drop in revs you heard was from the rear tire momentarily locking in the grass.

  • Hey needknees, Do you recall how full or empty the gas tank was ?

My guess is that the tank was very low on fuel. I have a RSV4 (Factory) and I have noticed that it is very sensitive to fuel load. I am sure this contributed to it. The heavier the fuel load, the less likely this will occur, Sounds like "junk Science" but I know first hand !

  • @jokerioafm12

This was first thing in the day so the tank was topped off. Can't remember exactly how many laps in but it happened in the first session. Not sure how the RSV4's tank is situated but the CBR puts most of the weight under the seat.

  • Way to hang on to that

  • WOW for one im surprised it even tankslapped with that stabilizer & two that was one great save,i;ved had some tankslappers my self & i know how tuff they r 2 save but you were in the dirt still tankslappin & saved it ,you got some skill playboy well done!

  • Oh man that was Huge!! What a save!! Nicely done!!

  • how the hell did you stay on that?!?! amazing skills!!

  • very good save man nice work

  • I used to get tank slappers on my CBR, then I learned not to grip the bars tight, it stops the front wheel from going where it needs to go and in turn gets kicked about, then forms a tankslapper.

  • That is unreal!! Nice save mate!!

  • I thought you were about to eat shit for sure. Bet your eyes opened up as big as bowling balls. Nice save. If I were a ref id give it a 10/10. Sadly I am not so all I can do is a thumbs up!

  • Wow I've had nothing like that with my cbr 600rr with stock hesd,. Nice save.

  • Tankslapper=wet seat

  • were your pants brown ?

  • @syav88 gives a new meaning to assing up the seat

  • Holy SHIT! Amazing save man, I thought you were going down; glad to see you held it!

  • HOLY FUKING SHIT! FML Moment!!

  • Dude NICE recovery!!! Ya, your stock damper isn't enough for that kinda of action, if your riding track you really need to upgrade. Also the main cause of a slapper on the straight like that was cause by pressure on the bars. try hanging on to the bike using your feet and legs instead of your arm. you want virtually no pressure on the bars under acceleration or braking. Great job holding on to it in the grass and sweet bike too!

  • YEAH go the GoPro HD! Love those little cameras, I have one myself :) epic tank slapper dude. Im thinking of getting a dampener when I upgrade from my CBR250RR to an 08 R6

  • Wow that was intense, how fast were you when you got into the grass?

  • @kennopoo A bit over 100. The slapper started at the 2-3 shift which is approximately ~130mph. From what I can see of the taped off speedo in the video it's still in triple digits when I hit the grass.

  • Glenwood?

  • same thing happened to me today scared the shit out of me all i got was a bloody finger and a huge bruise on my leg

  • Accelerating out of that corner. Maybe just a little to firm on the counter steer. Advice for getting out of a tank slapper used to be to let go of the handle bars. It worked for me once.

  • that was close.. if that happened to me, i would freak out and crash... props to him

  • Electronic Steering Stabilizer working hard!!!!!!!!!!!..........not

  • LOL u almost fucking died

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE save man! So damn glad you made it out unscratched! I had a tank slapper 3 days ago and i fractured my foot >.<

  • Fuuuucking hell!!! Glad you made it out allright man!

  • Hit road kill at 50+ threw me in a tank slapper didn't recover bike slid 347 feet I rolled a good part of that .got up talked to police and bystanders pushed it home two blocks down the road .bumps and bruises and new out look on life.

  • That was scary to watch! I had one just like it yesterday on my brothers cbr 600 while chasing an Audi r8, I beet the Audi but needed a new pear of pants when I got home!

  • that grass area is what saved your bike and got that slapper under control.. as the front wheel couldn't move side to side so freely... close call either way

  • Lucky man. My high speed slapper resulted in me going airborn, tumbling down the highway, with missing skin, crushed hand, and a fear to hop back on the saddle. bike was totaled. My tank slapper could have been the result of bad suspension settings, bad fork work, gew leak stopper in the rear tire, slack chain, worn bearing, cheap tire, etc. My lesson was stop being cheap on the maintenance. The $5000 in medical bills wasn't worth the money saved by keeping my bike maintained.

  • holy shit you are so lucky, hope you had spare pants that day

  • That brings back very unpleasant memories. My 115mph tank slapper didn't end as well.

  • @bn37inf lmao same here

  • you could kinda hear the front tire getting light at :09 seconds. the beginning of the problem

  • gość chyba sie zesrał ze sie zatrzymał na "poboczu" (wiem hujowy dżołk)

  • MAM has one of the worst run off areas of a track that I have been to. Needless to say I went down because of the bumps. Not going back there unless I am paid to go.

  • holy shit, new pair of y-fronts please

  • FAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!

  • Dude... Sick !!

What camera did you use, btw ??

  • @willyvw It's a GoProHD. Great little camera!

  • you are a good driver, most people would brake

  • i bet your arms were sore as hell the next day..

  • I'd blame the surface at MAM... I had a pretty sweet tank slapper coming out of 5. Of course it coulda been that I was full bore on my R1 coming out of a turn :)

  • SMART move hitting the kill switch... that couldve been NASTY

  • ..... wow.....

so this is the upgrade from the 06 to 08? random tankslappers?

  • Nice cool head there mate, nice save :¬)))

  • I just pooped myself watching that...nice save dude.

  • Ham fist :-)

  • Man! That was f#$%king awesome!

Glad you kept your bike upright and didn't panic.

  • OMG! How fast were you? Did you crap your pants?

  • This look like you squeezed too much the handle bars

  • new pair of pants please.

  • This phenomenon of autorotation. deceleration ceases but very dangerous because of the uncontrolled motorcycle. this man is so lucky, and can

  • 0:12 SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT *grass* shit shit shit, shiiiii o, ok that was fun.

  • some one explain why something lik ethis can happen on a motorcyccle??

  • @juvmol Various reasons. google will explain better than anyone can here in 500 letters.

  • great save, pulled over to change underwear? :)

  • Maybe its another problem, like head bearing failure or a faulty front tire. I have a stock r1 with factory damper and have never experienced that much shake.

  • It seems that you squeezed the handle bar, bike don't lyke that ;)

  • fuuuu, that was close to throwing you off, huh?

  • freaking honda!

  • Holy crap bro, glad you pulled it off... even if it is a honda ;)

  • VERY good save my friend. props from r6-forum.com

  • @PaSDragon

what makes you think you can represent the entire R6 forum? Get off your high horse, you sound like Matt.

    nice save man!

  • @Ponyboy1684 actually, it was more of a props from me, got linked from r6-forum. didnt mean for it to sound like that, but fair comment though lol

  • @PaSDragon

haha, i was just playin around. who is this?

  • @Ponyboy1684 meant to type props, linked from r6-forum. thanks for calling me out though lol

  • thats sad even a OEM damper shouldn't respond like that but i don't think honda's come with stock damper...cause yamaha is the same way

  • @EmoSurfer1982 They do have a stock damper, but it's electric. It's supposed to automatically stiffen up at speed and be looser at low speeds, but I don't think they're really designed for the track. ...If it's working at all, that is. I'm thinking it's more a combination of track surface and geometry that caused the tankslapper than anything.

  • @needknees damn that nuts ..thats like yamaha's fly by wire throttle... it seems cool but what if it fails on u .... like this did...i mean I get chatter wot going up a hill on certain courses but that is nuts in a straightway

  • bet you have an aftermarket damper now, huh? ouch... nice save... and VERY NICE offroad skills. dodging the mud was impressive.

  • @agg2001 haha I'm looking at them. There really isn't much out there for the current gen CBR1000 though! Neither Scotts or Ohlins makes one yet :(. GPR is about the only one I found, and I've heard conflicting reports on them. Sounds like their seals blow out pretty quick.

  • @needknees - yea, the first few batches of the v.4 GPR had faulty seals from their supplier. since then, they've changed suppliers and i haven't had a single problem with mine - nor any of my friends have - in nearly 12 months. AND, if it should ever start leaking - EVER - they'll fix it for free (9 times outta 10 it's simply replaced with a new one directly from GPR... not old dealer stock).

    just sayin'. :)

  • @needknees Don't just cover up the problem with a damper. Figure out what actually caused it first, THEN use a damper if you want the extra piece of mind. Have you altered the steering geometry at all? Had the suspension set up?

  • @needknees

There was a problem with one particular run of the GPR's, which was fixed. I'd say it's a safe bet if you get a new one. I've had no trouble with mine.

  • @needknees With certain models. Do some research. I have one on my sv and I've yet to have any problems with it.

  • @needknees

Get the GPR. They've gotten a new seal for it. Even if the one you buy doesn't come with the new seal and develops a leak, it's only $35 for a seal & service. So don't let those leaky seals deter you!

  • Jesus man. Excellent save. Scrap that OEM damper though!

  • holy crap

  • good shit on the save.. but i bet that made your butt hole pucker you might have even needed a change of pants. ride hard stay safe

  • holy fuck, nice save
