  • Firstly, this guy is amazing, not gonna bother going into detail, he just is! Secondly, you can't compare this to MMA, they're totally different things, Karate is an ancient martial ART, MMA is a SPORT, and has no-one thought about the fact that mma means MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!!! Some of those guys probably use shotokan others, mui thai, whatever, dont compare them!

  • @OMFGDmanrules

I AGREE...THIS ART HERE IS SACRED AND MORE BEAUTIFUL

  • @OMFGDmanrules 1 person uses shotokan sucessfully,machida,1 person in 17 yrs.Yahara is a great karateka but this isnt fighting, its a points match with heavy contact allowed by appearance.

  • wow no wonder those asain make good fighting movies there alwas fakeing it

  • With Yahara Sensei, the fight isn't over until your opponent has stopped moving (or breathing!): he is just as dangerous on the ground as he is on his feet. And I have great respect for the"ukeni" - his training and demonstration partners: Sensei Yahara's version of control is to leave bruises, rather than lay you out cold. Very much looking forward to training with him in a couple of weeks - and just a bit scared, too!

  • @twodeltas he has never done any substantial grappling training, hed be totally useless on the ground as would everyone without years of training. He has a great spirit though and could be trained for mma if he was motivated and in his prime just like machida.

  • the swiftness of his strikes astound me.

no, really they do. my eyes are like this O_O

  • Wow very excellent Video ! ! !

Thank You for posting on the YouTube..

Such an incredible athelete with so many great accomplishments..

    5 STARS all the way around ! ! !

  • I wish people would stop this comparing, MMA is a SPORT not actual life and death fighting. Some things work and some don't use what you can when you can in plus it's called Mixed Martial Arts so it's whatever you wanna throw together to make your own unique style.

  • I PRACTICE MMA AND SHOOKAN SINCE 20 YEARS

for those who thinks that only mma is the only right way.. think to this, in a real no rule fight any blu belt or better may defeat a lot of mma fighter with NUKITE in an eye. (for those that don't know nukite, the first time you study nukite in shotokan is at yellow belt , HEIAN NIDAN)

real karate teach mortal technics, but the laws and the modern training methods avoid to teach those blows.

MMA teach to have real good timing and the feel whit blows

  • ichi geki hisatsu ,killing with on blow sensei yahara is one of the masters in it.he could be so badass the ufc or mma fighters never dreamed of it .either Permanent it could be damages or death.

  • muito legal

  • Which kata is he doing around 6:00 ?

  • @Troelsff That would be Unsu, by many considered as the highest kata.

  • @my2opinion Wonder why :P the jump at 6:24 seems hard to perform

  • @Troelsff Kata Empi.

  • @Troelsff That kata at 6:00ish is Unsu judging by the jump.

  • Excepcional.

  • Mikio Yahara would kill any mma guy literally...

  • @FLCL4EVER1

Lol you watch too many movies man

  • Lo admiro buen Espiritu Guerrero.

  • i wonder how many of the muay thai guys who comment know that even their style originally had "kata" or some type of forms before it became commercialized and sport focused? hmmmm

  • i love these people who come out with these comments,if you do judo, watch judo highlights,if you do muay thai, watch muay thai, but to make stupid comments about this particular karate-ka then, you have not done your research, better still save up the air-fare,go to the K.W.F in Tokyo and voice your opinion to Yahara Sensei in person!!

  • weak

  • o q é isso?:D

  • This is man is one BOSS!!!!!

  • OS.

  • AWESOME

  • I do not know but I can tell you that the champion from brasil desndency figths in the MMA uses powerful punching and kinking that many of then have knock down separing from jujitsu that brasilian is dangerus standin up I think posible that guy learned in japan

  • Respects to this man. Oss!

  • Legend

  • 1 vs 34 yakuzas :o

  • fuck me dead. superb!

  • do you guys think he could do good in mma, like could he beat chuck lidell or something

  • Machida does good in MMA, same art. and yahara etc has a way bigger name in Shotokan Karate as Machida does.

    Do the math ;)

  • Ok people like fireking9934 make me laugh lol. MMA fighters train for competition (sport). Martial Artists train for self defense and combat. In the "cage" they maybe wouldn't win, but on the "streets" the are many death blows and trapping that can stop all the strikes from an MMA fighter. I have seen it.

  • i completely agree with you i was reading up on kuimite in shotokan and it says that in kumite you are training to kill or cripple your opponent

  • i think he not only could have beat him but he could have killed him if they were fight

kick boxing only train for knock out karate trains for killing and sensei yahara is good at those techniques

  • Im a judoka ( dont have any relation with muay thai or kickboxing), and i have to tell you that muay thai trains lots of killing techniques (elbow in the head, round kick to the neck....) not even to mention muay boran!

  • Long live Judo!! :) but ya iv trained both traditional and modern muay thai im not supper impressed with the modern but baron and Chaiya are very good. Traditional is very different from modern. i have a lot of respect for the art, and for judo too ;D OSS!

  • perhaps modern muay thai is not extremely impressive, but you have to see the fact that it´s a competition sport now, and that´s the why it might seem "softer" than traditionnal, because they have forbidden lots of techniques....however MT is very effective!!! be sure if i hadn´t weak knees I´d train some MT 2! :)

  • i totally agree with you

if you are training for ring fighting and full contact training with in the same fashion is very important

thai pads and mits are very important for developing good free flowing combination's

and i my self do work a lot of knees and elbows. did you know in fact all the exact same techniques are available hidden within the kata of karate im just asking cuz most ppl have no idea.

  • I didn´t know but i suppose Karatedo must be also much more complex, but certainly suffers the same restrictions of competition than other martial arts, and that have pushed karate to seem the gay brother of muay thai because of including too much techniques into kinshi waza...how many katas exist in karate?

  • in shotokan by its self 26. but if karateka want to fight in full contact and with less restrictions k1, sanshou, muay thai, mma, kyokushin, boxing are all open for them to compete in and would not require any or much adjustments.

but i do think that maybe more karatedo dojos should make it possible for students to train for those events and make the necessary types of training available but lately there have been more karateka fighting in full contact events

  • @NakhitX How is ring based sports full contact??? You still have mits/gloves, and linitations.

  • thank you so much for your nice comment man....finally someone that knows about martial arts and respects muay thai even if he does something different ....i am a muay thai but i really respect grabling

  • i have trained with Yahara many times, I have also been his opponent during the class, let me tell all of you this guy is the business, he can hit like no other, If you have not trained with him, dont make comments about how he is not that great , believe me he is.

  • He's great, so fast and strong!

  • I've seen a couple of other video clip of Yahara Sensei... one word...ferocious! I especially like his Unsu kata at the end.

  • he is amazing o.O'

    japanese power!

  • Awesome video. Name of the last song, please ?

  • Yahara is awesome!!!!! :)))

  • oooeeeeh wauw 1st dan... how many years did u trained for it? 10 years? haha

  • It isn't about the belt that you wear or how long that you train but about the progression that you have made.

imo people shouldn't be awarded above 1st dan in under 10 years of training unless they literally train everyday and gain the experience in that way.

  • haha lol yeah normally also it is a gift people like those profs are gited with it they are born with it in their genes and of course also a lot of training!

  • hmm, nah I don't believe in "it's into their genes" the only difference between those people and others is how much they are willing to sacrifice to reach their goal.

the only difference between successful people and non-successful people is that the successful people are willing to lose something to reach what they want while the non-successful people are wondering what they're doing wrong while sitting safely at home.

  • hmmmmmmbwaaaah yeah ok u gotta a point but certainly the most are gifted with it lol for beeing a good karate-ka u must have everything the basic things from beginiing u can pick up direclty one somebdoy who is new and u can see already f he can do it or no

  • i heard once he cut a man in 2 half with his bare hand, is it true?

  • it really amaze me too read silly comments like this. My friend, I am also a first done and I just noticed that my learning of Karate has just started, even I practised it about 8 years. 4 years in Turkey, 4 years in England.

  • correct "done" to "dan". somehow typed it phonetically.

  • 1st Dan in Shotokan and you make a comment like that? Perhaps you should do a little research into Sensei Yahara and some of the old school JKA instructors. If you aren't aware of their legacy and contributions to Shotokan, then I wonder which "McDojo" gave you your Shodan...

  • Now THATS Karate!!!! Yahara is my Idol!! Best Shotokan karateka the world has ever seen!

  • Sifu Yang Ming would rip these guys apart. Of course, Master Funakoshi would rip Sifu Yang Ming Apart; from what little Kata footage I saw of Funakoshi, he wasn't "sharp" or "ferocious," but damn it was well near flawless. Smooth and perfect. Being a wuss sucks; not strong enough to do a Kata 1,000 times in a day like you're supposed to.....

  • HE IS THE COOLEST HE IS VERY EXPLOSIF AND HE STILL CNTINU FIGHTING!!! AND HE IS ALOS THE PRETTIEST !!!lol

  • did he really kill enemy yakuza members and if so for what reason were they after him? Yahara is awesome.

  • Yahara has a private security company now, but when he was in his 40's he was working as a bodyguard. One day, 34 low-rank Yakuza members wanted to beat up one of Yahara's clients. Yahara faced them and defeated some of them in hand-to-hand combat, while the rest escaped. He was threatened for death by the boss of the Yakuza that Yahara beated up because he refuesed to pay the hospital of those men. After more than 20 years Yahara still alive...

  • wow that's awesome thamks for the info

  • he's AWESOME !!!

  • great video, shihan yahara is one of my favorites masters =)

  • I don't have comment about that Oss from moeketsi lele ezrom tsatsi from South africa under shian malcalm dorfman his my chief instructor

  • He is great.

  • He is a good role model for karatekas like me.

  • HAHAHAHAHHA Like you HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Yes, like him and like me.

  • A talented martial artist Yahara.

  • omg nice !! pretty hit in 3 : 56 min ... nice video , amazing! sensei !

  • does anyone know how to do a Kiai that doesn't involve screaming? Let me explain myself; a scream is a scream, but a Kiai is a Kiai. There is actually a difference. If your vocal chords are sore after doing a Kiai, its not being done properly. There is a specific way to do it, but, no one in either Japan or Okinawa knows anymore.... how terrible.

  • Really? then tell me, if no one in the world knows anymore, how can you DO know that it is wrong? What are you, funakochi rencarnation or something?

  • OK I know what you're talking about but saying "no one in either Japan or Okinawa knows anymore" is just ignorant. Basically a Kiai a moment of total concentration, the shout is just very helpful but not obligatory.

  • I used loud Kiai only during exhibitions, the rest of the time it is just letting all the air in your body out and firm muscular contration. It comes naturally once you use your body properly. The power must come from the stomach and hips, it is what gives you the power to use your limbs a fast as possible.

  • with so many karate master look-alikes it's a joy seeing a true karate master in action here. What i see here is not only a superb fighter but also an artist at work.

  • This is well-known to some but so what.

Most of the footage of the young Yahara is from approximately 1982 or 1983. He was 35 or 36 years old. He was apparently at his most rattlesnake like at age 29 or 30, in 1976. At that point, anybody who took a 3rd or 4th dan test (any Japanese guy, for sure) probably had to fight him. That couldn't have been amusing. He was a dangerous guy at age 40.

  • UFC is still a sport with rules. I don't think that Yahara Shihan as a professional body guard, is a sportsman, even though he used to compete. Lets face it, how often is a street fight one on one, wrestling on the ground is a sure way to get your head stomped in by ones opponents buddy. Real fighting karate transfers perfectly to the street. Change the gyaku zuki with the fist into a nukite attack, and check the results. If proper karate was allows in MMA there would be a lot of fatalities.

  • you said it!!

  • wonderful!!!!

  • AMASIAN!!!

  • 3:56 .... !!! pffh

  • Who cares about MMA? Every martial arts video on youtube is followed by shed loads of comments about how the person would do in MMA. Mikio Yahara is a hard man and has proved it on many occasions. There's nothing wrong with MMA, but it's not the be all and end all.

  • i disagree is he was allowed in MMA alot of people will b accidently knocked out if not crippled...look at his he truly practices the "the one hit kill" my theory, he had pretty much incorperated into his instincts, any challenger that takes him on gets injuried if not knocked out by strikes, my guess is any fighter: ufc or not that gets in range are as good as road kill unless they have very good plan for being in his circle

  • great performance

  • very nice :D

  • Awsome.Yahara Sensei in UFC? If you look at any Karate Kata there are a lot of strikes that, while ideal for the street, would be considerd illeagal in the UFC - collar bone strikes, various strikes to the neck, groin & joint stikes as well as pressure points. All of these techniqes would not be allowed in the UFC therefore negating a very substatial part of Karate. UFC is just kickboxing & wrestling, its strenth Vs strenth with most of the equilising techniqes removed.

  • I couldn't agree more! Well said!

  • @TheOneNo20

What makes you think someone fighting in the UFC isnt also capable of collar bone strikes, neck strikes, groin and joint strikes as well as pressure points? It's not limited to karate you know, and someone with an understanding of grappling will be able to execute a many other illegal moves if you happen to get close.

  • Philmoscowitz , I too would like to see this guy in an MMA arena. Sadly, while it's an excellent exhibition, the truth is he would be marmalized! Shotokan tournament fighting bears no resemblance to the skills needed in MMA.

  • ultra awsome

  • Awsome !

  • wow, watch what yahara does at about 3:55. you think he practiced that, or just improvised it? awesome!

  • i'd like to see someone like Yahara enter the UFC/Pride. the MMA rules would put a lot of constraints on what he could do, but maybe his punches and kicks would be enough. plus, give him 9 months of BJJ or other grappling training.

  • I think he is a great master in shotokankarate in the world and bring a lot of honords for japan . of course he is a littel fury.

  • The one and only Yahara Sensei, Brilliant!

  • I liked this a lot, very cool stuff.

  • great video very good well done keep uploading ok gerasimos1 look my video at fudokan ok
